Bo isn't calling out the people reminiscing, he's referring to the artists who've never lived the country life, but still sing about it and pander for that money.

Pointing out the contradictions of the country pop stars and The music business in general. Of course they’re all extremely talented but the likes of Keith urban, brad paisley, Tim McGraw, dirks Bentley

@@jimhendricks413 I abhor pop country, but Brad Paisley is the goat. He has a lot of funny songs, seems to me like he doesn’t like to take himself too seriously. He’s also an incredibly underrated guitar player. There’s a video of him and a bunch of rock and metal guitarists taking turns playing the Game of Thrones theme song in their own styles and he kills it.

"Y'all dumb mothers want a key change?" - imho, the most brilliant line of this whole thing. That is the oldest trick of emotional manipulation in music... a cheap, easy way to raise the intensity, to make the listeners FEEL it more... and I LOVE that he calls that out here blatantly.

"Fuck your ears, I'm pandering" is one of my favourite lines in a song... I think... ever? Not just a Bo song, or a comedy song, or (either ironically or unironically) as a real country song. Just in general. Really love the line AND the delivery.
@Dragon7398
@Dragon7398 2 года назад
It's a great line, but just as important to it is the prior line: "Like Mike's Evandering: Fuck your ears, I'm pandering." Just like Mike Tyson did to Evander Holyfield's ears; this song's pandering will do to your ears.

Netflix is a Joke is the banner for Netflix's comedy selection. It helps keep the "edgier" content a bit separate from their main RU-vid. They also use it as a brand for their comedy festival. Alex Melton (RU-vid) does a great job of making country punk and punk country. Makes the songs really interesting

when you asked "what's the alternative here, should they donate all their money to charity-" my mind immediately jumped to dolly parton. she doesnt seem like she's doing it to keep up the facade of authenticity, but bc she has the money and does donate a lot of it. speaking of which, now, i don't know if you listen to dolly parton (i don't want to assume either way) but if you haven't i'd love to see you react to some of her songs? The same as ‘rap’ covers a huge variety of different sounding styles (hyphy, boom bap, mumble, west coast, etc) country is the same way. Country music is not a single type. There are subsections within the category. I’m sure there’d be a few within the country umbrella you’d enjoy quite a bit

Someone a few years ago made a mashup of six different country songs and it showed just how formulaic and redundant all these "stadium country" songs really are. It even split single lines between the songs and the lyrics still made sense. I highly recommend checking it out if you love laughing at shitty 'music' written by marketing teams in their cozy offices.

Back in 1975 an Outlaw Country country singer named David Allan Coe released a song called "You Never Even Call Me By My Name." It was written by a guy who claimed it was the Perfect country and Western song. In the song, Coe says he wrote back that it was Not the perfect country and western song, because it was missing a few key elements. Soon, a new verse came back and it was basically this bit by Bo. It's worth a listen just for that verse.

I remember DMX responding to backlash from making club hits instead of hood crime stories and hood anthems. His response was something along the lines of "Yeah, I got outta the hood." In the same way a lot of these country artists left the farm. But they didn't stop talking about it. I'll stop there so as not to rant on and on. It's comedy and it's meant to be fun and should be analyzed with a grain of salt.✌️☝️❤️

It's like how the old saying "write what you know" when it comes to creatibe writing. DMX got out of the hood so he has some awareness that it eventually won't be profitable writing about hood crime stories and hood anthems just won't hit the same when it comes from a rich guy.

You were laughing so hard at the scarecrow you missed a very important part later which explains what he means by pandering and how he isn't being nitpicky. He's talking about "county boys" that never were county boys never grew up or did any of the things they sing about and only pander to the fans when they would have never been caught dead working a hard days work or doing anything in their songs and how they only perform in massive stadiums and would never actually perform in places that they are singing about in their songs and their entire persona is an act to get women and money that is also why he states "I hope my southern charm offsets all my rapey vibes"

Joihnny Cash wrote and sang coutnry for decades -- and people are still listening to them. You'd have to look hard to find one of his songs with with mention of more than one of the list of trucks, tractors, jeans, beer or boots. Most don't have any of them. That's the difference between reminiscing and this formulaic stuff.

I’m not a country fan, so I can’t speak to that question. however, when you asked about the authenticity of rich artists, I have a thought. just because you’re rich, doesn’t mean you can’t still live a country life. you don’t have to move into the world of private jets and mansions, you can have a ranch or something instead. so choosing jets and mansions is a choice, so pandering becomes a thing that comes with that.

Right brain,left brain next please!!!!! Ok,I grew up on country music from my dad...which is where I get my love of it,but I honestly believe that old school country tells the best stories...that's not to say artists of today in country music don't have some good storytelling, but there are just fewer and fewer artists today that are into telling stories like the older generations. we still have those artists of today's generation that appreciate and honor the old styles and reflect that in their music now,like Chris Stapleton (as you mentioned) .music is meant to make one feel...good,bad,sad,happy...emotions.if it makes you feel something and you connect to it for any reason,its good music in my opinion.today's,yesterday's,or the future's... All it needs to do is makes us feel and help us express feelings...if it does that,its done its job.🙂✌

You can tell he's not talking about artists who used to live in the country and work on farms and stuff like that and are reminiscing because he called out 2 of the most successful and authentic country artists, Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson. They wrote about their real experiences and memories. In fact, I'm pretty sure both of them actually owned and operated multiple ranches/farms. They continue to truly embrace the American country culture and that shows through in their music. But people like Keith Urban are basically just releasing the same thing over and over again while not even being in the same cultural demographic as their audience.
