I absolutely love,love, love the pick. So glad Fitzy didn’t trade it. It’s gonna feel like a long 2 years but once he is here, signed and delivered he will be way more ready as an almost 20 year old and 3 seasons in the KHL under his belt. He won’t be a green tomato when he gets here, he’ll be turning that shiny red color and be on the verge of ripeness. Let the KHL season him up for you and reap the rewards when he shows up just about ready ( besides adapting to the North American game/rink). So pumped.
💯 % will be green in 3 seasons when he comes to North America. Different game, different continent, totally different. The prospect is fine if you don't mind waiting 5 years to see what you have. By that time Fitz should be fired.
I agree Gary, you can gain a good amount of muscle, weight, and game play experience in that time in the KHL playing against men. Hell be more ready coming over and this kid will be a beast on our backend for the future
Since the 10th wasn’t traded, this is probably the best outcome we could have hoped for. I’ll be happy to see him wearing a Devils jersey in the near future.
There were better options on the board but this fills a HUGE NEED for us.. we dont need any more offensive d men we need that Danyo D to help out the O-D.. i like it, rather traded it and got a piece for now but in 2-3 yrs i’ll be glad we kept it
I scouted him earlier in the season and watched more highlights later in the season. At Draft Prospects Hockey he popped out big time the way he plays physically and uses a lot of his frame.
I'm excited about this, his size and hell get bigger, his mobility, his physicality, his reach, his skating, theres alot to like about this kid, And hes been playing against men already.
Size and snarl: just what they need. They already have the offensive mobility with Hughes, Nemec, Casey. Fitz can work on signing a veteran D in FA for 2-4 years
After some reflection, it makes perfect sense. He's the type of player the NJ Devils are desperate for. The league understands that NJ is soft. Fitz has expressed wanting to be more physical. He will be a matchup nightmare paired with Simon Nemec in a couple of years.
I agree. I wanted Eiserman or Dickinson, but im loving Silayev the more I read up on him & watch some clips on him. That size is Wow and the way he can skate and play with snarl I love. Good pick by Fitzy & staff
I love the player and think he’s going to be fantastic in the future but I’m a little disappointed the puck wasn’t used to improve the team for this year.. Anyway kerp an eye on Danil Misyul, he’s a player I feel can make the team this year at some point.
I was bummed we didn't make a trade too, but more and more im loving this pick. Definitely addressed a need for our future D. I like Misyul too, higher on Hatakka though hopefully we can see them get some time this year

Then why on earth would you wish our team traded the pick that we just stole the 3rd or 4th overall pick from this draft at 10 overall . This is like winning the draft lottery again .

I’d be so pissed if we moved this for Necas and Carolina ended up with Silayev. We can still trade this ‘pick’ which has increased in value since the draft. Every team needs a top pair shutdown beast.

I liked them too, I wanted Dickinson as well, has more offensive upside, but we have other D that can provide that. Silayev gives us what we need for the future big shutdown D
silayev is described by scouts as a faster more agile Chara, a tower of a guy that skates like someone who is 5'10". he closes gaps unlike anyone has ever seen, many people projected him to go 3rd overall and he only fell to us because he is still under contract in russia, he has also been playing against men in the KHL since he was 16. so when he makes the team doesnt depend on his game growing but more so depends on when he is allowed to come to america, its a great selection. however by getting markstrom fitzy sent a message that he wants to win now. this selection definitely doesnt help in that regards. free agency has to be BIG for fitzy! stamkos, zadorov, and pesce would all be very nice win now pieces. for fitzy's so called "BIG GAME HUNT"

Not saying he won’t be, but I don’t necessarily blame not trading the pick on him, hypothetical situation here but what if the best player he could’ve gotten for the pick was basically a 3rd line player? You’re telling me you would’ve been ok with that? I know for a fact I wouldn’t have been, and the fact that no other picks were traded for players tell me that nothing good was available, We don’t know what offers he had on the table and unless we do you can’t blame the guy yet, if he doesn’t land the free agents then yes, then I’m on board the fire fitzy train. Until then, I’m reserving judgement. He has a chance to redeem himself still. Free agency is stacked with great players, and we do have cap space to work with. Not happy with the move but I’d rather this than throwing the pick away
I dont blame him trading this pick, im sure he tried and no one wanted to do it. Other teams were trying but couldn't move their pick either. I wanted him to move it too, but the more I see clips of this kid and how he's exactly the type of D we need im loving it. The size, the skating, the mobility, the reach, he plays nasty, I love this. Fitz will try and add in free agency so hopefully he can get sonething for now while this kid grows and gets his game ready for the nhl

@THEHOCKEYSKATEDOWN I really like the pick...if NJ weren't "win now". If NJ didn't have a pipeline filled with young defenceman. The kid won't even be in North America for at least 2 more seasons If NJ as a team is still soft as silk and oh so wimpy in 2 seasons from now Fitz won't even have a job in NJ. Bottom line, the kid is pure project pick for years down the road. Doesn't nothing to help today or tomorrow.
