As someone who have visited most of the biggset cities in Poland I can recommend You: 1. Tri-City (Gdańsk - Sopot - Gdynia) in the north with the Malbork Castle very close by (50km, 30-60 minutes by train). 2. Kraków in the south. Former capital of Poland. Probably the most famous Polish city from where you can visit Wieliczka Salt Mine, Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp or go to the capital of Tatra Mountains - Zakopane (around 100km, 2 hours by train). 3. Warszawa or Poznań in the center of Poland with lot of attractions to see and food to eat :D

Tricity (Gdańsk, Sopot, Gdynia) + Malbork Kraków + Wieliczka + Tatra Mountains Warszawa Poznań Toruń Lublin + Kazimierz Dolny I highly recommend to move out of cities to see great nature of Poland like Mazury, Kotlina Kłodzka, Roztocze, Beskid or Bieszczady. Best time to visit Poland - late April till end of September. Avoid October-November, can try Christmas time and January-February for snow, but its mostly in the south in the mountains.

In fact, the number of dishes in Poland is terrifying. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of them. The same dishes will taste different in different regions and will be prepared slightly differently. Soups. It's a very Polish thing. But they are made much differently than in other countries. In Poland, such purees are called "creams". The soup contains broth, meat and vegetables, sometimes fruits, mushrooms, etc. And it will be called soup. Cucumber soup is tasty and tourists themselves try it, not believing that they can be used to make soup. Red borscht will also be available in 20 types of flavors. But I recommend going all the way and trying something more exotic, such as sorrel soup or tripe soup. That's deeper than you've gone before. Polish cuisine has everything - dishes are based on potatoes, noodles, rice, groats, etc. Take action, good luck.

@margaret1874 8 дней назад
Terrifying , exotic??🤨 you overdid it with this terms. Probably you never tried Asian, African, Latin or other cuisine. Polish food is very similar to German, Czech,Slovak. Is delicious maybe little on the heavy side but still healthier than other cuisine I know.

@@margaret1874 Well, I just tried. I have traveled the world and lived longer in different places. There is no such quantity and diversity because Polish cuisine, in addition to its own dishes, also includes dishes from other regions. I am offering you a challenge: count the number of soups in Austrian cuisine and I will do the same in Polish cuisine? Are you going for such an arrangement??

@@piotrsodel3077 1. Are you trying to tell us Poland is the only country with a regionally diverse cuisine? 2. Are we counting all dishes or just soups? 3. Are we having a genuine conversation or you just use cheap tricks to prove your point?

@piotrsodel3077 6 дней назад
@@piotrczapski2329 Tricks? You don't know history. Poland was under partition for 123 years. Some were in Germany, some in Russia, some in Austria. This is one of the last regional musts in culinary recipes. For hundreds of years, Poland had its cuisine and minorities, of which there were as many as 23 nationalities in the 16th century. Tell me how do you want to fight it?? I don't want to offend you, my friend, but it's a matter of the history of this country. As for soups, tell me the recipes for mushroom, beetroot, sorrel, chard or tripe soups in your country. Polish soups contain not only meat, cabbage, potatoes, groats, pasta, etc. Someone tried to count the number of soups in Poland and ended up with 400 recipes and stopped. You can find this information on Google yourself. So no offense, but it's a matter of what I'm trying to explain to you about the history of this country. I travel a lot and have worked in various parts of the world. If you want, I can tell you about my experiences, e.g. in Manhattan. Greetings.
@piotrsodel3077

@@piotrczapski2329 One more thing in our discussion that you definitely don't know about. In 1384, Jadwiga, who was Hungarian, was elected King, not Queen of Poland. From then on, it was normal for the king to be elected by the nobility, just as they are now the president of each country. The kings of Poland were princes from all over Europe. When they came to Poland, they brought their preferences and cuisines. I hope I have made it clear enough for you where the diversity in Polish cuisine comes from.

In Poland, there was a tradition of not wasting food. It was said that a Pole would pick up pieces of bread from the floor, kiss it and eat it. Poverty taught us this, and unfortunately today we are just like others. The broth from which tomato soup is made is normal. The meat from the broth was often used to make stuffing for dumplings. Nothing could go to waste.

Poland is not as vegetarian as you think. Good bigos is full of all types of meat and sausage and these give cabbage and sauerkraut their flavor. Classic gołąbki are stuffed with rice and minced meat. You might not see meat in a number of Polish dishes but a lot of them are meat stock based or meat is used as a flavor enhancer to vegetables(like fried bacon added to red cabbage).

There is a saying in poland that if you can make chicken broth then you can make all soups. Not bc broth is hard to make. But bc many polish soups are just chicken broth with one additional ingriedient. For example tomato soup is just broth with addition of tomato concentrate. One of those soups can be "szczawiowa". This is a soup made with the addition of common sorrel. I don't think you would have the opportunity to run around the fields and pick these weeds, but sometimes you can buy this plant in stores (at least in Poland). It is very sour, similar to sour rye soup. And also often served with eggs. About potato pancakes. Those german darker ones arent german at all. Those are i think jewish. And you can also eat that in poland and lot of people call this "different potato pancakes" but they have their own name. Its Latka. It is easy to be wege in poland. But its not like poland has lot of wegetarian cousine. When you ask Chat gpt about traditional polish wegetarian food half of the list is not wege at all. It just can be served in castrated version. You can do a chicken broth with wegetarian cubes of sadness. But there is a cost. Like taste, dignity, and 1000 years of polish history going to waste disposal. Gołąbki should have meat inside.

Many Polish soups are based on a "rosół", which is just a meat and vegetable broth. Such base has wegetable soup, tomato soup, pickled cucumber soup, sourkraut soup, lemon soup, any kind of mushroom soup, green bean soup and many more... Soups not based on a broth are: zalewajka, zarzucajka, żur, żurek, barszcz white or red. About being vegetarian in Poland is not easy, we have delicious sausages, which we put almost into every dish, for example bigos (sourcraut gulash-stew) contains meat and sausage. Gołąbki also are made with rice and minced meat, rolled in cabbage. But yes, we also have some traditional, vegetarian dishes, very often for a sweet tooth person. Mizeria is a sliced, fresh cucumber, with a sour cream/or Greek yogurt if you prefer, fresh chopped dill, a bit of: lemon juice, pepper, salt, and sugar (and sweet paprika - optionally). Mily(?), what a beautiful, four-paws lady! Welcome to our big RU-vid family!

cucumber soup is great if you like sour food. If you do, definitely try it. Also some insight on your favourite barszcz. It's a classic polish dish for christmass eve but then we call it barszcz z uszkami (barszcz with ears). The "ears" are actually small dough dumplings with mushrooms in it (think pierogi but smaller and thinner). So those are swimming in barszcz. Some restaurants in Poland should have them. Traditional cabbage rolls are stuffed with rice and meat. The stuffing is wrapped in a cabbage leaf, if the cabbage has a thick middle part, it is cut so that it is soft and edible during heat treatment in the oven. It is kept in the oven for about 4 hours so that everything is soft. In my opinion, the most important thing is the tomato sauce, if you make it, the whole thing will taste better. They are best eaten the next day, when everything has rested and is ready, you can pour fat with smoked onion. And as for the spoon, it was a wooden spoon for show, to add an old Polish touch, when in the villages people only ate with wooden spoons.

Basically we boil a pot of pasta or any type of noodles and then pour kompot on it, usually with fruit chunks, to make a kind of a fruity soup. Thank you for promoting Poland. I am Polish and I love to watch foreigners discover my country. I am very happy that you like Polish cuisine. I would like to share with you some information about the cuisine. Polish cuisine is the cuisine of poor people. We have very few dishes made of expensive meat, but we make good use of basic ingredients. One such dish is kaszanka ( pig's blood with buckwheat groats ), it looks like a sausage only it's black. It tastes great when grilled. Another dish is ozorki (hog's tongue in horseradish sauce). Another controversial dish is liver with onions. I personally love it. You should also know that each region (voivodship capital) of Poland has its own regional dish or snack, such as Krakow - obwarzanek (pretzel or bagel), Lublin - cebulk (yeast dough with fried onion on top), Poznań - rogal świętomarciński (croissant with poppy seeds and nuts), Toruń - Gingerbread, Szczecin - paszteciki szczecińskie (fried yeast dough with meat filling), Katowice - rolada with red cabbage and noodles, Zakopane - kwaśnica (a dish of sauerkraut with pork rutabaga) and oscypek (smoked sheep or cow cheese with cranberry jam). I also watched your expedition from Wroclaw and it lists dishes that weren't in those films: 1. cucumber soup (soup made from fermented cucumbers) 2. vegetable soup, the second soup after tomato soup, usually made from Sunday broth. 3. vegetable salad is a salad of cooked vegetables for broth with hard yak, mayonnaise and mustard. The taste is ok, nothing specayal, but the test is a very traditional dish. 4. pea soup something like an English breakfast but with meat and bacon and sausage. Very good soup 5. krupnik soup with pearl groats 6. Krokiety, a very traditional dish almost like pierogi. They can be stuffed with meat, cabbage and mushrooms or the student version - wieners with cheese. Desserts. Poland is not only about donuts. Kołacze are also very popular (a sweet buttery bun with sweet cottage cheese on top). Drożdzówki, the same roll but with fruit fillings ( the most popular are blueberries, strawberries and apple). Popular cakes (I'll just give the names) sernik, szlotka - jabłecznik, kremówka, wuzetka, karpatka. My childhood flavour is kisel. It's hard to describe what it is, basically a boiled compote thickened with potato flour. I wish you a pleasant experience in further exploring Poland PS: Unfortunately these days locals eat a lot of kebabs ( which are much worse than the German or Turkish ones)

6:48 Regarding cucumber soup it's more like pickle soup, pickles are a cucumbers that were preserved in vinegar and other stuff also pickled dills available abroad is very different than what we have in Poland. Also worth notice that depending on fermentation time those tastes different (aka małosolne vs kiszone). Anyways it's a little bit sour and have this polish pickle flavour, but it's quite good.

I'll surprise you on the subject of potato pancakes - my favorite version is pancakes with just salt. When the pancake mass (potatoes, onion, egg, flour) is in the right proportions, you don't need anything more than a pinch of salt after frying. Potato pancakes are one of my most favorite dishes, so I can eat them with anything (sweet, with goulash, with mushroom sauce), but when they are made of really good potatoes, the version with just salt is my favorite.

About making Tomato soup: There is a skit-song made by group called Letni Chamski Podryw (Rude Summer Pick up - i guess) called Pomidorowa (type Letni - Pomidorowa and you'll find it). It really show the attitude of some Poles towards re-making chicken soup into pomidorowa. At this point in my house Rosół is base for everything, so you make it into pickled cucumber soup, barszcz, krupnik... It's like this soup-ception, when you can make potato soup from rosół, and if you don't want the mild potato soup you make it into barszcz. it's wild but as skit shows, there is dark side to it ;)

Krakow and Malopolska region is very traditional in all dimensions. As capitol of Polish Kingdom it offers you great architecture, culture, Wieliczka mine. You'll also find a lot of traditional dishes based on old recipes and excellent quality ingredients. One of the most extreme is tripe soup. Try it in a good restaurant - it's like durian, once you try it becomes your favourite soup forever 😊

5:25 This is so natural, that 1st day you have chicken soup (stock,etc.), then next day is"pomidorowa" tomato soup. But, if you have chicken stock, you can do any soup, or sauce/ gravy/stew, but this is higher engineering 😉😜, for many people

You should try white barszcz, it is similar to żurek but a little bit milder. Try it with white cheese(?cottage cheese?, but not the one in small balls, but the one in one, large piece, crumbled) and boild eggs. 🤤🥔 and by the way we, poles, have at least 50/50 ratio of blood/potato starch circulating in our veins😂🥔

Vege bigos would taste totaly different, we do it sometimes just cooking sour cream with spices, but bigos need to be fat, the fat transmits all the tastes, need to have multiple smoked meat and sausage/bacon. Best with wild animal meat z 'dziczyzna' Kompot not best to flush vodka, it's very wattery

I have no idea what is "shtatel". Tomato soup is a chicken broth with tomato pure and cream and it is served with pasta or rice. Pancakes with cottage cheese are actually crepes filled with sweet cottage cheese, but also can be served with fruits or meat filling or simply jam.

No, after joining EU the majority of Poles haven't moved to UK or abroad at all. The majority stayed in Poland. Regarding bigos, if you have a chance try it with aslice of home made out of hare pate. My grandma served with 1cm sliced cold piece together with hot bigos. Gołąbki, also know in the US by the name golabki, are the best made with savoy instead of white cabbage. Savoy cabbage is more delicate. And yes, more traditional stuffing is made with meat and rice although my mother used pure meat. Pyzy definitely need to be accompanied by gravy, either mada with wild mushrooms or beef one.

A visit to Krakow is a must for many reasons. I will mention the historical one. Krakow was the capital of Poland for several centuries. It is not impossible that it still is in the legal sense. It is said that King Sigismund III Vasa moved the capital to Warsaw. However, this is not true. The king moved his court to Warsaw, but never issued a legal act establishing Warsaw as the capital of Poland. In documents, Warsaw was clearly referred to as the "Residential City of His Majesty King of Poland", not as the capital. Postscript It is a fairly well-known fact that Krakow is home to Europe's largest Gothic market square. On the other hand, few know that Krakow is also home to Europe's largest urban pasture, namely Błonia.

I live in UK and we've got many Polish shops around so it's quite easy to get some products you would miss otherwise. There are also 'world food' isles in big supermarkets with some Polish food as well. However I do miss good quality bread, seasonal fruit, potatoes (just taste different, especially baby potatoes- only in June). Good fruit grown in the season only - of course there is plenty in UK, all year round, but they all taste a bit bland. In Poland you could always get some natural, sweet juicy fruit from local people, only in the season. I miss forrest blueberrys, apples straight from the garden, raspebrries, currants: black, red and white, cherries, sour cherries, gooseberries - all cheap, delicious and just growing almost everywhere 😉. I cook at home but I like different foods from all over the world so UK is actually a very good place to try any nation's cousine.

I prefer salty dishes. Drinks containing sweet juices are popular in Poland. But we have many types of vodka in Poland, e.g. "spirytus lubelski" (99% alcohol). In my opinion, the best one is mixed with orange juice in a 1:1 ratio, remembering to scrape off the orange peel, add the peels to the mixture and leave for a week of aging. you can also use it with chokeberry and elderberry. We call such a mixture a "tincture" and, depending on your preferences, it has 40-60%. another example is moonshine. Moonshine is not so much a tradition, but drinking it with juices containing acids ends badly the next day. We eat moonshine (60%-99%) with fatty meat. we start drinking after we have eaten something. not on an empty stomach. An empty stomach and thirst will make you lose touch with reality after 3 glasses, and the 3rd glass should be a warm-up. After warming up with fatty meat and 3 glasses, it is often preferred to eat a small raw piece of herring in oil with vegetables. The culture of drinking alcohol varies depending on the region. It is not only a drinking tradition but many generations of experience. and the concept is that after drinks there is a hangover. and after drinking vodka or moonshine, you won't have a hangover. The last thing is the documented fact that the world record holders in the amount of permille are Poles. No Russians because I don't have exact data from them, but it's possible that they are at the same level. The Pole had 14.8 permille of alcohol in the blood, recorded by Tadeusz S., but it is not as they think in Europe, e.g. the inscription on Danish vodka: "Lethal dose - 4.5 permille of alcohol in the blood! Does not apply to Poles and Russians." it's about how to consume vodka. They have a similar one in Russia. And probably similar records. So, for example, a 100 kg man can drink one liter of vodka in the right way and feel as if I had drunk 7 drinks with citrus juice. The difference is that drinks will make my head explode in the morning, but not vodka.

Stetl was usually a small town/village in Eastern Poland before II WW inhabited by a large Jewish community. Poland of course during this time was shifted much further to the east and contained large parts of today's Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania. Stetls are no more due to what happened in Poland during the war. The lady is most likely a descendant of someone who used to live in Eastern Poland and emmigrated to the States before the war.

Plums are obligatory, but should be smoked and not to much. Just to give colour and additional taste. To make a good bigos is a long process and many ingridients. If there are no plums, wild mushrooms and at last 2 types of sausages and 2-3 types of meat its only a fake bigos.

1:39 If you want to go mushroom picking then be sure to do it with someone from Poland. Each of you has only one liver. I am not saying that every poisonous mushroom picked in Polish forests will make you need a liver transplant, because eating some will result in milder or stronger food poisoning, but there are cases of fatal mushroom poisoning in Poland every year.

May I give you a friendly advice? In Poland, a person never eats a table with his, not her, head covering. It is extremely impolite and triggers people at instant. The reason comes from years back when starvation was rampant and a real meal was a celebration of food.. If you had the chance to be invited to a private home and sit a the table with had on your head, you would be politely advised to take it off. I live in one of the North American countries and can not stand men having their meals with those baseball hats on. Sometimes I wonder if they sleep with them as well.
