I know there are a lot of people who hate walmart, and a lot of reasons to do so, but I am thankful for them because they allow me to buy medications at a lower cost, support birthcontrol and provide cheaper access to it, and immunizations to people who can't afford the doctor. This so pisses me off. I’m a child of a single parent. My parents divorced. Dad already felt marriage was a ‘free ride’ for women, so he wasn’t going to pay alimony or child support for us once even the Marriage was gone. He literally changed his name and took on a new identity to avoid having to pay any support. My mother was disabled. After rent all she had was $200 a month to try to raise me, on government assistance.... she would buy day old bread to eat while trying to make sure as a growing child I got what I needed. She often would send me to eat with my grandparents who lived nearby when we didn’t have enough. When she did ask the church for help our bishop at the was vicious. He even made her sign loan agreements to pay the church back since he was so sure that a woman to weak to lift a gallon of milk was trying too scam him. He actually ended up being removed because of his bias against those in poverty and single women. Next Bishop was better and did help. But again Bishop roulette. I’m several years out of the church so I have no idea who the man is that wrote this talk... but seriously... fuck him. He’s clueless as to the realities people face.

I love that they hate socialism yet hope to live the law of consecration one day... which is basically socialism. hahaha

My parents were married and didn’t want a kid. So they had me and we’re terribly abusive. Abortion was legal at the time and I should have been aborted. One because they had me only to abuse me leaving me in trauma therapy trying to function through the C-PTSD and two…. This is the big one… my mother deserved the life she wanted and that didn’t include me. She should have gotten an abortion and lived her dreams. That said I am here and do my best to heal from the trauma and raise my kids with love, acceptance, and empathy. I try to extend that to everyone I meet. I do it for my kids because they 💯 deserve it. I do it for strangers because they deserve it too… but because of the trauma I feel like I have to “make up” for being born. I owe it to the world to “pay for my sin” of existing.

The Fam Proc is written in a way that emboldens members to think they have social science on their side. In reality, kids are successful when they have strong healthy attachments w ANY adult, feel autonomy, competence, & have a supportive community. Yes, it “could” come from a religious parent but it could also come from a teacher or a coach.

To see them doubling down on wanting to make homosexuality illegal again is the most alarming thing about this. I don't understand how anyone can think there's hope for the church to be moving toward progressive ideologies.

I work in social work and some of my favorite foster families to work with are LGBTQ parents because they take kids with trauma and behaviors that most "normal" families would never even consider taking. Usually, this is because these couples have experienced rejection from their first families, and never want other children to feel the same. Also... since they can’t have kids, they are VERY prepared and happy to take in foster children.

I'm surprised by how adamant the church is about people on welfare when there is a church welfare system in place. The bishops storehouse and canneries cater to the people who can't afford to buy enough food. My mother was an RS president for several years and one of her 'duties' was to meet with those families every month and have them fill out a checklist of what they needed so she could go collect it and deliver it to them. The hypocrisy is just astounding.

Great video! Just one point, foetuses do have nerve endings at 7 weeks, but the thalamic projections to the brain are not there until 12-16 weeks. So anywhere in this 12-16w timeframe they do start feeling pain. Dont get me wrong I am pro choice but in such a choice the earlier the better (before 12w), to reduce harm for foetus and mother. After 12 w of course there are medical reasons that could necessitate the abortion, or other factors such as incest, child molestation, rape, etc. Of course access to sex education, contraception, and abortion (without protesters!!!!) is paramount.

I am studying social work in grad school and I would looooove to pit this guy against any one of my professors and see how they annihilate his opinions about social programs. They have more empathy and compassion in their pinky nail than this guy could ever dream of.

I have a cousin that was sexually abused by her step father and the bishop reported him to the police for it. Afterwards that bishop got released and in trouble for not handling it "in house"

My birth mother was gang raped when she was 16. Abortion was illegal at the time so she was forced to carry what I'm sure she thought a monster. I was born 5lb with ADHD and a learning disability. I guess I was lucky to be adopted and not put into a ophanage, but I know it would have been better for the both of us if I was aborted(I would have never known). My adoptive father died when I was 10 and I was left with my narcissistic abusive adoptive mother.This is'nt a story for people to feel sorry for me because I don't. I feel bad for the women that have to carry a child out of rape and or incest.I would love to be an avocate for pro choice but my struggle with my disability I can't even figure out how to begin.Thanks for letting me share my story.I think you two are beautiful inside and out.

I've met him before he was one of the area presidents at the time for New Zealand and my dad was a bishop and he wanted to open up a chapel that had been closed for like 12 years and callister came to over see it or something like that. I was only 9 I think and all I remember is getting to have really good food after and that my dad was gone almost every night of the week cause he worked a full time job and was suddenly the bishop of 2 wards

As an active member, I never liked anything that came from Callister, but holy fuck, I feel really sorry for him now. Being Mormon is like going through life wearing beer goggles that you don't even realize you're wearing. I swear that past a certain point in the leadership, all of them are either evil and just having fun being sanctimonious bastards with sticks so far up their asses they make scarecrows cringe, or they realized they were wearing the beer goggles, tossed them, then took the next step up with inverse LASIK so they don'thave to worry about the reality of what they're pushing is. Those are the only ways I think they can avoid such cognitive dissonance when the world confronts them. They can't be sheltered when they're standing on top of their so-called rameumptom or Tower of Babel, which they've built so high, when they look down, the clouds cover their feet and they pretend that's what they're standing on. I don't know which one a lot of the leaders fall under, but I'm pretty sure Callister has a permanent garment wedgie from riding his high horse.

He's making it obvious that he follows the Church out of a fear of pain and death. He believes it so entirely that he makes sure to intensify the suffering of anyone living outside his beliefs. He has to make his fears a reality to those around him in order to affirm his own faith. After all, if the world around him was as nurturing as he fears it will become, would his own church look like it had true happiness in comparison?
