I show you how easy it is to go from a single piston caliper on the rear brake of a 99-04 Chevy/GMC truck. to a dual piston caliper from a 00-06 Chevy/GMC SUV.
Glad to hear you didnt need proportioning valve with this swap. I have a reg cab v8 so im hoping i dont need to tear into that problem in the future. Lord knows i'd need the valve, bench bleed, matching abs unit, a scan tool for abs, lines, smh
Good Video 330 mm Twin piston rear started 2003 Now Your Caliper & Pads are The same. Right front Caliper fits Left rear & Left Front fits Right Rear. Using Hi Carbon Severe duty Rotors & Severe duty Pads.
Yes I plan on doing this definitely! I don’t know why they even ran the 1500s with smaller brakes than the suv, seems kinda stupid, at least it can be mitigated .
Have you had any issues with the park brake adjustment? Mine seem to either grab to much and overheat the rear or be to far out and not grab at all when I adjust at the star wheel.
Basckly you will need to find a disk break truck and remove the backing plate, and replace the backing plate of the drum breaks. The axels will have to come out for this.
This might not work well for a 2wd half regular cab? Same brake pressure with bigger 2 piston brakes would make your rear end grab to much, dangerous in the rain. Need a new proportional valve I'd assume. Be like ripping the e-brake if you needed to brake hard in an emergency around a corner in the wet.
It might. However, while my truck is a 4x4 and excab this has been on it for a few years now. I also have hydroboost which gives me a lot more braking power. Even with the stock tires, I have never been able to lock them up. I assume that the abs system takes care of it, I may just have been lucky. I do have a co-worker with a 07 classic 2wd reg cab with a 4.8 He is planning on a 6.0 swap and doing this set up in the rear. If he has a problem I will post it on here.
Heck yea I appreciate it. I wouldn't assume an extended cab on up would have any issues especially with bigger tires, I just thought of this with my truck I'd need to put bigger calipers up front too in order to even it out I would think. Not much weight in the rear. Awesome deal though. Anything simple on these trucks make a video. Especially 2 door single cab ones. Huge demand for them and you'll get a lot of views if comprehensive. Eveyone likes saving money and if a video gives step by step they'll watch it and do it themselves. Thanks for providing free content
If you want cheap bigger brakes up front it's easy. You just have to run 17s that's why I have not done it yet. I have the set up but my tires are 16.5s. front bakes from gm trucks with rear drums have larger rotors and calpers up front. direct bolt on. I may us my wifes truck to make this video since she does have 17s
Heck yea good info, I'm going to be drag racing the truck and making it a nice cruiser. Full weight mildly quick drag truck is my goal, big brakes will be nice. Putting 20s on it, but 15s in rear when drag racing so rear brakes are fine just need more up front. Thanks again for the info. You should make a facebook page just for all the tips and tricks specifically for these trucks. No other crap so people can learn without digging. Categories and tricks. I'll bet your page grows quick with enough information on it and then you can share your youtube channel from there and show how it's done. Could grow big in a year and start making that big youtube money, you're not bad behind a camera so you'll get really good and boom making LOTS of money doing what you love
I just did the swap. The 16” rim will bolt up and clear, but the rim is hub centric and fits half way on the hub. When you use any 17” and up wheel it fits more flush. Just the way the 16” wheels were stamped.
