Thank you so much for this. My dealer wants $400+ to do this. This is completely within the realm of my abilities. Gonna call them back and tell them to hold off.
Dude your explanations are great and detailed. I have the exact same car with the same amount of kilometers and I also live in Montréal. I am going to do this this weekend and hopefully I do everything exactly like you said. Thank you very much!
Whenever I hit bumps or am on bad roads I always here some thumps in the back and it's pretty rough. Its good to assume it's the shocks? Before I go and buy the parts 😅
@@dnatural5148 if you are running the original shocks and have 200k + KMs. It is a good bet they are worn and need changing. Thumping however can be caused by a few different things however.
Thanks for the video! I bought NAPA shocks but unfortunately they don't really fit my 2012 Civic and the bolt sheared off when I tried installing it due to the way the end was formed (It was a simple flat piece, not an allen insert like the OEM ones; damn near impossible to grip). I didn't realize the KYB models would differ between 2012 and 2013 and almost bought the wrong ones (Yours is 085, a '12 uses 066). Once I receive mine I'll see how it goes
Hi John, thanks for the clear instruction. I managed to replace both shocks, took about 1 1/2 hour. I kicked myself for not paying attention to where you bought, end up with Amazon which cost $98 each instead $60 from Rockauto. Out of curiosity, on my 2013 Civic the bottom bolt is 9/16 instead of 14mm. All in all, really easy and save ton of money. Much appreciated and looking fwd to more video from you. One other thing, though the shock stamped Honda with part number, right at the bottom you can see KYB name stamped also.
Struts and shocks on the way, will reference these videos again before getting out there. Only way over due on my car and terrible ride quality now lol
Great video dude. You’re gonna save me around $1200 US by doing it myself. I think I’ll wait until it’s winter time because right now my garage is around 100°F and I will die of heat exhaustion if I attempt this job anytime soon. Greetings from South Texas.
Thank you for the informative video; just a small note: torque is measured in pounds-feet, not foot-pounds...but an excellent, clear guide for replacing the shocks - thank you for posting it online!
Thank you for recording this video it was helpful. I was wondering there are 2 different models from KYB 348085 and 348066. Do you know any differences?
Hi, I own a 2013 Honda Civic EX, and my rear left shock needs to be replaced after a mechanic detected that it leaked fluid and my car pulls to the right even after having a wheel alignment performed, so should I replace both rear shocks or just the left one? Thanks, I appreciate your help.
Would this be the same as a 13 Si Sedan? Just want to be sure before buying parts. Have one saying shocks need replacing and one saying strut needs replacing
Do you know if it's also common to need to change the springs in the back? I noticed my shocks have leaks so I want to replace them both. Just not sure about the springs. Nice video. Thank you
@@DIYManiacJohnP one side came out like butter the other side not so much lol wish I could show a pic of what’s going on but the lower bolt is like almost all the way out and it is just spinning now but won’t come all the way out
@@robertbarney6193did you figure it out? When I did the same replacement mine snapped at the head of the bolt and so I had to saw it off. Horrible experience lol
