I picked up a 20 plate sx recently, really enjoying this great bike. One tip, something I have done for all my bikes. Get your bike on whatever stand set up you use, then find a block of wheel that only just fits underneath it. This will support the weight of the wheel and make reinserting the axle so much easier. I’m enjoying your videos on this bike, thanks for taking the time to produce a great series for us all 👍🍻👍

I just did a rear tire change with wheel removal and reassembly. These instructions are fine, but there is no need to loosen the chain adjuster clamp bolts, just unhook the chain by pulling out the axle and then push the wheel forward, this will save a lot of time.
Thanks for your videos I always use them for a recap before doing work on my bike. I use two wedge shaped blocks of wood at the front and back of the wheel which you can adjust to take the weight of the wheel.
Helpful video. It provides a visual dimension to the Service Manual. There's also an ABS sensor bolt for the 2021 model. Neither the Service Manual nor your video mentioned about the torque specs for that bolt. Wonder if you or others know that one. In fact, the Service Manual completely skipped the ABS sensor for the wheel installation instructions.What a goof! Also, consider getting the Pit Bull Tire Wedge. It saves quite a bit of time since the tire is stabilized by that support throughout the dismount and mounting of the wheel.
Thanks for the refresher. I keep forgetting to put a wrench on the left side of the axle when removing the nut on the right. Quick tip : I write down a point form procedure for each step of the process plus those little tips if needed. Beside each step, I note the wrench size and torque for reassembly. Saves a ton of time grabbing the wrong tools. You can lay out all of the required tools before starting.

But I got a question, in your fairing removal video I was wondering that if you get them off, does that provide access to the mirrors? Due to a minor accident, my right mirror broke off and I ordered a complete new unit, but I see no way of getting to the part where I have to get the assembly off and put in the new one, so I was wondering if you have any idea on how to get about it? Hello there! Please help me with advice. I have a Kawasaki z1000osx. When removing the rear wheel, the axle rusted to the nuts and the effect of unclenching the pendulum feathers occurred. Now, when installing the wheel, you need to tighten it strongly so that it fits into place. Can I use this pendulum? If you don't fully understand the situation, I can make a video! The videos are great john thankyou. Would love to see air filter video. And I know its a tall order but did you ever consider changing your down pipes and de-cat? Thank you for the hard work and putting together a great video! I was impressed to see that you changed, during the filming of this clip, your tyres with new Pirelli GT2s. After watching a few times your video, it seemed to me you put a cleaner tyre after swapping the old one :)) I thought for a moment that I didn't see very good so replayed a few times :). How do they feel after riding more than a year, any impressions? How about the feel when riding in the wet? Great job and keep up!
Thanks for your excellent videos. I've been told that a key advantage of the 1000SX eccentric cam adjusters is that the wheel can be removed without loosening the clamp bolts so current chain adjustment is not affected. I assume this is done by removing the axle (as shown) and then moving wheel forward to create enough chain slack to remove chain from rear sprocket so the rear wheel can be removed completely. Have you or other viewers tried this technique?

Just pro tip. Put some protective cover over the rear seat/paint. Hang rear tyre in a strap on the rim that kan be adjusted. Make life 1000 times easier trying to fiddle that axle through the break caliper support. Also tighten the pinchbolts slightly, the chain adjuster (aluminium circles) aligned with the hole of the break caliper. Ore these will slide around on each side.
I don’t plan on adding tire pressure sensors. Since you only measure tire pressure when the tires are cold (before a ride), I just keep a gauge in the garage and bring one with me on touring trips. If I was installing a TPMS, though, I might look for one with bluetooth that could use my phone instead of a separate screen. If I had to mount a screen, it would depend on the size, but I’d probably try to mount it near the USB ports I installed, or on the same panel on the other side of the bike.

I haven’t considered extending the rear fender. Even with my shortened stock fender, I don’t have any issues with spray/debris from the wheel. Or are you talking about extending the rear of the front fender?
@@JonLong Unfortunately I get a lot of stones from loose tar seal and road dirt thrown up by the back wheel. Doesn't get over the rear shock, so that's some consolation. Just wondered if you'd considered an extension to the stock - obviously not! Thanks anyway.
I’ve had 2 rear tyres fitted by 2 different very highly qualified tyre shops and neither of them touched the adjustment bolts or the torque link bar..???? They both changed the tyre exactly the same way and I’ve had 0 problems..:-)))
what are the gt2's like, the factory tyres are rubbish. i binned them at the 6000km service, i dont know how you kept them on as long as you did. i got the road 5's and been happy with them since was wondering how these like as i was on the gt1 on previous bike
Here’s a review I posted on a different site: Here’s my very non-expert review of the Angel GT II tires. I put on a set of Pirelli Angel GT ii before my trip this past weekend and put about 1200 miles on them. A lot of twisty mountain riding, as well as some long sections of highway. I went with the stock size (190/50/17) rather than the slightly larger 190/55 that many people prefer. Although I’m not aware of any reported problems, I didn’t want to risk messing with the IMU with a larger tire. I noticed two things immediately with the new tires. The first is the usual immediate improvement in handling and turn-in, just because the tires are new and aren’t squared off in the middle. (I think many people overstate how good their new tires are simply because of this. You could put on a brand new set of the same tire you had before, and it would feel like a massive improvement.) The second is how soft and smooth the ride felt. The stock tires feel hard and plasticky in comparison to the new tires. So even at 36/42 psi and the same suspension settings, the bike felt immediately more comfortable. The improvement in comfort was pretty remarkable. There were long stretches of highway with siping (the grooves that run along the direction of the road, to help with wet traction). The tires felt squirmy on the siping. I imagine it would be similar on a metal grate bridge, but didn’t encounter any on this trip. While this is mildly annoying, I learned to ignore it because it never unsettled the bike. I noticed improved traction on other types of common road hazards. Things like tar snakes, painted lines, patches of dirt, etc... were hardly perceptible through the tire. The stock tires felt like they were on ice any time I rode over a tar snake on a hot day, but these tires didn’t move at all. I’m a conservative rider, so I’m not qualified to talk about the limits of performance for these tires. But for as fast as I’m willing to ride on the best twisty mountain roads I know, these tires instill a lot of confidence. I’ve pushed the stock tires hard enough in corners to feel the rear start to slip. I couldn’t get that to happen with the new tires. Fortunately, there was no rain on this trip. But I’ve done hundreds of miles in the rain with an earlier set of Angel GT on my FZ-09, and they were great. The Angel GT ii are supposed to be even better in the wet, so I have no concerns about that.
Good question. The Yamaha has a little less power than the Kawasaki, but it delivers it in a more aggressive manner. That’s due to the lower weight of the bike, the throttle tuning, the engine tuning and torque characteristics. The Kawasaki has a smoother and more progressive power delivery. The Tracer 900 (the touring model, right?) is heavier than the MT-09, so it might be a bit more mellow in the power delivery. I think the Tracer (assuming it’s the touring model) would be more upright than the Z1000SX, so that may be more comfortable. With that said, the Z1000SX is roomier and more comfortable than the MT-09 that I had. Why are you looking to change from the Z1000SX to the Tracer?
had the sx for 5 years it is a 7 year old bike now i just wanted something a bit lighter and agile as i am 55 years old i only ride at the weekend it would be the standard tracer i have been offered a good deal on a 4 month old model .should i go for it or not?
Jonathan, may i ask - when you turn on ignition key does you fuel injector priming sound is humming evenlig or does the humming sound change to ticking at the end?

I'm curiuos. You put grease on the axle. Why? And more importantly you did not take the opportunity to put fresh grease on the wheel spacers that the rubber seals rub on? Other than that its a helpful video.
Hey Jonathan it’s getting near to pulling out the bike... well not really but I was wondering about tire quality and what you think would be the best tires to replace the stock tires my tires are due this year and for my bike I’m not sure what to shop for, we both have the same bike and if you have rode your bike as much as I have then I would assume your due as well, have you given any thought to the subject? Hey Chris, I actually replaced my tires when I made this video. You’ll notice when I put the wheel back on it’s got a new tire on it. I went with the Pirelli Angel GT II. I had the first version of the Angel GT on my last bike and really liked them. The new ones are a great match for Ninja. They’re very sporty, but have long life and work well in a variety of conditions. If you use the bike for commuting, touring, and sporty riding, then sport touring tires like the Angle GT are a great choice. Michelin Road 5 would be another great choice.
It can really vary a lot depending on how hard you ride and what kind of conditions you ride in. Very generally speaking, sport tires (like the stock ones) last about 3k under hard usage. Mine lasted about 5k miles. Sport touring tires should last at least 6k miles.
Jonathan Long looked up the pirelli tires they look really nice, did you put the tires on yourself?? ...guess I’m lucky I’ve got about 14000km with my stock tires which is about 8700 miles. The motorcycle show is coming to town last weekend of this month February so I usually go to find some good deals. I have several torque wrenches, all Tekton brand. You want to avoid using a torque wrench for torque values that are close to either end of its range. They are less accurate at the extremes of their ranges. So if you need to tighten something to 70 ft-lbs, I would use the 10-150 ft-lb wrench instead of the 10-80 ft-lb wrench.
@@JonLong You must have some well developed gluteal muscles because I rode my 2013 Ninja 1000 to CO from Austin TX and the seat began to torture me after the first 2 hours of riding. Afterwards, my glutes would hurt after about an hour of riding. It became unbearable. On the way back I bought an air pad for the seat in Denver. It was helpful but the seat angle itself is murder. I still had to ride standing up numerous times. I would get off the bike and start punching my butt really hard, this would alleviate the pain to some extent. That is why I am so eager to trade my bike in for the 2020 Ninja 1000sx, although I do not like the color of the 2020 in the US; wish they also offered it in Black and White. I have loved my Ninja, even flashed the ECU; now it is an unleashed ROCKET!! I have installed a full Akrapovic exhaust (one sided only-needed to clean the chain so never liked the dual side exhaust). Also, for cruise control I used the KAOKO throttle lock; it works but not sure if I am going to miss it once I transition over to the 2020 model... Great videos, I really enjoy watching your work!
Great video, I’ve just got my 1000sx and am new to rear wheel retention system. By the way what type of rear stand do you use? I’ve tried using my old Pittsburg but it’s to short and low.
Nice video...but It’s neither related nor matching to Born Creator Video. Only bike with same colour is common and on that basis u can’t put a copyright strike on anyone. Just wanted to know on what ground u put that strike???
I appreciate you politely asking the question. Born Creator did not steal my video, he stole my photograph to use in his video. That was the reason for the copyright strike. I encouraged him to re-upload the video without using my stolen photograph. Instead of doing that, he made several videos claiming that my strike was fake and that I am demanding money. Neither of those are true. I’m not interested in harassing anyone, just trying to protect the content that I work hard to create.
Before removing the axle, loosen srews of the excenter is absolutely no good idea ... install of the axle will be very difficult, when the excenters are not 100% concentric. You can spend in worstcase till 20'. I do it like this: Remove axle, wheel to ground & a little bit forward ... than remove the chain. The same way for install the wheel. With this method you need 50% less time. Smartphone ... you can forget!!!
Horst, I know the problem you're speaking of, re-installing the axle is not possible if the eccentrics are misaligned. I still rotate the eccentrics forward (like Mr. Long does) but additionally I will re-tighten the eccentric pinch bolts so they are held in alignment. No matter how you accomplish it, keeping them aligned will make your job easier later on.
@@JonLong that's quite interesting because when I started watching your videos I too wanted to buy a new Ninja 1000, even though I have a 2013 Ninja 1000...I thought it was something private & unmentionable but now with RAJA incognito's comment, maybe it is the way you represent the bike and others can feel it too...Kawasaki should sponsor you!
Yeah, having single auto focus is usually good. Sometimes I use continuous autofocus, even on the tripod, if I think I might be showing parts or tools during the clip.
