Hey everyone! Thank you all so much for all the support over the past two years! If you're interested in trying LMNT, you can get a free sample pack with purchase here: drinklmnt.com/brent
This update is one I've been waiting a long time to share! We are rebuilding a hotel here in the abandoned mining town of Cerro Gordo. It's been a long, difficult progress, but progress is happening again and I'm very excited to share where we are at, and where we hope to go from here!
More photos here: / brentwunderwood

Mailing Address: PO Box 490, Lone Pine, CA 93545
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who has followed along for the past two years. Together we're all ensuring Cerro Gordo's history is preserved for generations to come.
A portion of this project has been funded by donations made to the Friends of Cerro Gordo NonProfit organization through the American Hotel GoFundMe. The support of thousands of individuals over the last two years has raised funds that will go directly into rebuilding the American Hotel, preserving history for many generations to come. It is through your unwavering support and generosity that this project is possible. Thank you so, so much! It's beautiful to see so many people care about the history here. It means the world to me.

Perhaps to raise money for the American Hotel, “sell” the option to write the name of the person who donated on the roof shingles (on the inside of the hotel, not visible from outside). This was done here in the Netherlands at a church which had major fire damage, the new roof now has many names on the inside.

I was at a restaurant/Whiskey Bar and after a fire they did exactly that. The took old Whiskey barrels apart and used the wooden slats, and branded the names of the people involved into them and covered a wall with all the wooden slats. Kinda like the bricks you can buy in front of stadiums and places like that.
@TurnipGreen

I was gonna comment the same thing, only with bricks. People could buy a brick and have their name inscribed on it. They did it here with a clock tower

My great-grandfather owned a hotel in Goldfield, Nevada, early 1900’s. It burnt down one night when 2 miners got into a fight, knocked over a kerosene lamp, and it was gone. My grandma told me the story often. They (great- grandma, their 3 daughters and a son) eventually moved to Lone Pine, where he became a Sheriff, and did some mining in the area too. Moved to Bishop after that, and a couple generations later, I was born. I’m grateful for my history in the area, my heart will always be there. We celebrate Mules every year on Memorial Day, they were such a part of the growth then. You’re doing an incredible job, I’ve watched from the beginning!

You need to look into the feasibility of laying down a helipad area, somewhere on the property. Not only would it allow Heavy D somewhere to land his helicopter when he comes to help out...but would also be invaluable in the event of a medical emergency when a medical helicopter extraction or attendance could be the difference between life and death. If Daventry is coming out with excavators and bulldozers again to dig for the sprinkler water tanks....maybe see about getting a suitably sized area for a helipad constructed. I suspect it would need to be quite a wide area to prevent small stones and dust affecting the helicopters that would need to use it. And when not in use with a helicopter landing it would be a useful flat area. I suspect concrete or tarmac surface would be needed to make it safe and compliant for use.

If done properly, though, the whole project could also serve to become the towns' water supply in general, too. Brent-Your love for our beautiful California history makes you the richest man in the world. History will never forget your work and sacrifices. I’ve spoken about you to my 4th graders. I hope that one day young children can visit Cerro Gordo on field trips. Their young minds will be influenced and will carry on your work at Cerro Gordo and in other parts of California. Tons of respect for all the workers who’ve helped you.

Seeing the massive beaming smile on Brent’s face as he rebuilds the hotel is priceless. I still find watching the video of you the morning after it burnt down upsetting. Watching so many people come together and be there and supporting you and cheering you on is just amazing. Cerro Gordo gets to live again and we all get to experience it through this channel. We are all blessed 😇 Sending hugs from Surrey England xx

I'm so pleased that the American Hotel is being rebuilt - not only was it beautiful, it was the focal point for the town. Cerro Gordo has found it's perfect custodian in you Brent, and I'm amazed and delighted that you have inspired so many people to volunteer and actively preserve such an historical site, not just for yourself, but for future generations. I imagine a time when this fantastic place is going to be the field trip of a lifetime for students everywhere. I think that our history is so important, and people like you need to be thanked and applauded for your efforts. You have generated so much interest, and I think you have a mammoth task ahead, but I'm convinced that you're up to the challenge - BEST WISHES and GOOD LUCK!

I think of it this way, this is your love letter to Cerro Gordo. Whatever happens to this town next, to the land, to you; this building is now something tangible and something many many many more people can come and take a look at and enjoy because of your heart and determination. You are now as much a part of Cerro Gordo and its future as it is of you. You now have this unique perspective about what it is to build on this land seeking a bright future just like all those miners and everyone who played a part in the creation of Cerro Gordo. Not a lot of people can inspire so many others to lend a hand and come help a stranger in need.

We watched the whole backlog of your channel over a few weeks and for the next year we watched your videos whenever they came out. We both loved history and old things so your channel was great for us, especially being California residents. We were planning to come up and visit Cerro Gordo. But he got diagnosed in March a week after we’d finish planning the trip. I wish we’d gotten to see your ghost town together.

I could not have clapped my hands together any harder when I heard heavy D sparks would be coming back to help you out. Even more so I could not have shed the tears throughout this episode, as much so as I had from the moment I seen you shed your tears of the burning down of the American Hotel I shed them with you, I have been watching and waiting and following ever sense. Though heartbroken with you and for you, I enjoy and I tune in as if someone has nothing left to lose-------but my time (I'd like to call it that).. it's not so much that I am a Heavy D Sparks fan because I had never heard of him before Ciara Gordo. No it was because of Sierra Gordo itself that now I do follow the gentleman that are a part of this team and for that I praise God for his existence in your life and the life of Sierra Gordo and so to the adventure we share together --- all of us that you bring along;; and when I hear that you are in need, I can only think of one man and one team that can fit that bill. Oh I am so excited to keep watching. Thank you, to all of you for allowing me to hang on to something and to watch and to feel a part of. From the very beginning. From the toils you had been through Brent, to the alpacas and the goats to the cats to the cave explorations, the golf courses and the Christmas course, the vacation luxury you spent alone down below and your heavy weight loss.I watched and I feared......in concern. And to all of our concerns for and with you. I have once lived in a town much like Keeler, it exists in California and it exists for no man, so to speak - it's out somewhere around the Salton Sea. I can understand your precarious position. I can understand a lot more than you think simply because......, so many reasons. But let me just tell you, I have such good reason to keep looking for your episodes. Thank you Mr Brent for bringing this and Sierra Gordo and all the folks involved to my television viewing screen- for what it is, I feel, for where I am, I wosee the finish. But, still ill follow with you - somehow I will follow in spirit and most especially and prayer; ask Mr Heavy D to offer one up please sir if you will. For Sierra Gordo, for the entire team, for all of history and for our past's future. I never know where mine may land, I just may join you down the shaft or maybe two in the future or someday when my body returns to its gravel and mineral deposit. Good night, I will be watching. Sincerely......No. There will be no proofread. I do make mistakes.
