It was so lovely to see clips and pics from your visit, thank you for sharing. Yes, No Exit is a wild read! Very enjoyable! The only Uncle Monty I know is from the movie Withnail and I, and I can assure you he is very not hot 😂🙈

@@my0.25lifecrisis haha, I don't have a video about No Exit because I read it a while ago but I did mention it in a tag video I filmed the other day - the End of Days tag- it should be going up within the next week.

1) Your videos are NEVER shitty! 2) It's awesome to see you back! 3) I've GOT to read the Disaster Artist! I had seen The Room and was totally blown away by how something that terrible could actually make it to the public! I love those kinds of movies, but they usually don't make it to theaters, let along become as famous as the Room has. I saw the Disaster Artist when it came out and I enjoyed it. But I would LOVE to read a more in-depth account of the making of the film. When I was going through my own quarter life crisis, I wanted to make movies. Mostly write them, but directing was in the back of my mind. Meeting Lloyd Kaufman from Troma kind of cured me of that. To do film, you've got to LOVE film and be prepared to really embrace it and prepare for heartache. And not all of us have millions of dollars like Tommy to fund a disaster. But I still love movies and love to see the behind the scenes drama. Most of the time I'm more excited to get the commentary tracks on old films just to hear all the talk about what was going on. And, yeah, sometimes revisiting old books on film can make one melancholy. I've had that happening lately with my love of Dario Argento films. I got into some groups on Facebook that discuss them constantly, and while I am happy these new people are embracing his films and experiencing this thrill for the first time, I just don't feel the excitement I did when I got into them. If anything, it's made me question why I still have Dario Argento posters all over my house. *lol* But I still try to throw in my two cents just to keep it fun. Who knows? I might get some revitalization out of it myself. 4) Did you ever see the Series of Unfortunate Events film from back in the day? I've seen the first episode of the Netflix show and need to watch the rest. Just curious how anyone else feels about the contrast between film, Netflix series, and books. 5) I've been re-reading some books from my own childhood and they can definitely leave you with a "whoa" feeling sometimes. I found the first Xanth book from Piers Anthony, a fantasy series set in an alternate magical dimension that is parallel to Florida. I remember really loving those books as a kid. But reading them now....Wow! If they reprint them, they need to pop some trigger warnings on them! I usually am not for things like that, but he treats certain....sexual crimes....with a grain of salt and a giggle. I remember those books being popular with females back in the day, but now I'm kind of wondering why. Admittedly, as weird as this is to say, I never read the first book, A Spell for Chameleon, back in the day. I couldn't find it and went right to the second book. I remember them having a kind of "flirty teenage" air about them, but that first book....Damn! It wouldn't fly now! The Spawn of the Winds Cthulhu Mythos book I'm reading now could pass as a young adult novel easier! Now I guess I have an answer for why the Xanth series has never been made into movies... 6) Well, I'm babbling. This is what comes of writing comments at 3 in the morning. At any rate, I enjoyed your Vlog and it's nice to see you back! Have an awesome week, Jay!

lol ok so... 1)Thank you!! 2) Double thank you! My time management skill remain unpredictable, but I'm fine with that. 3) You should definitely read the book then! Like I said, the book gives you more details of the behind the scenes chaos, so it's so fun to read. For me, it's difficult to enjoy the book as an expose of this wonderful disaster of a movie, b/c I think to myself...why am I reading this? Am I supposed to sympathize with Tommy? Am I supposed to admire him? B/c it's one thing for Tommy to be a bad filmmaker, or an inexperienced one. It's another for him to be a sexist, ignorant, and unapologetically self-centered person. For example, showing up four hours late everyday and delaying production. Acting like a total dick to every single person on the cast and crew -- and to the actress who played Lisa especially. ... The Disaster Artist seems to say "Yeah, Tommy was a dick and a weirdo, but look at what he made? Isn't it incredible?" And I used to be able to agree with that to an extent, but it's so difficult to ignore his shitty behavior now. I still love tv, and I miss being around ppl who have a passion for it. But I never had a passion for making movies, and I 100% agree that you have to LOVE film in order to succeed, b/c that industry doesn't give a shit about you. (Being straight, white, and a cis-male also helps A TON, though.) I've never heard of Dario Argento, but I totally relate to the experience of once loving something, then having the excitement fizzle. I guess it's a part of life, but it's also a bittersweet thing. 4) I loved the Netflix show! It was literally my only exposure to the series before I read the books. I saw the books all the time in stores, but just never picked it up b/c I was too overwhelmed by the number of them. I'm kinda conflicted. I think I enjoy the series more b/c that's what I saw first, and also I'm just too old for the books. Like they are fun and I love the quirky childish vibe, but I would've loved it more if I was actually a kid. Also, the thing with booktube is that you're under pressure (usually a self-imposed pressure) to read as much as possible. And so, while I was reading Series of Unfortunate Events, I kept thinking about all the other books in my queue that I "should be reading" instead. So I wasn't able to enjoy it as much as I might have before I started booktube! 5) Never read that series, but I know what you mean. Especially with the Gone series, I'm like holy crap, what is this low-key sexualization of teen girls happening?? Very uncomfortable and cringy. I try to focus on the positive -- well, at least we as a society are more aware of this shit and won't print it in future books -- but I'm also like, I wish I had spotted these problematic shit sooner. Although I was also a child so how would I have known?? lol 6) GO TO BED JOHNO!! lol but I also appreciate how much your comments make me reflect lol. You do not need to be articulate in this space -- stream of consciousness thoughts are welcome

This was awesome! I loved all the b-roll and TOTALLY relate to feeling awkward about vlogging. I chuckled because you have the bit where you are filmed walking ahead - and on my recent trip I was going to do that but got too shy - haha! Your footage is great! And I loved the reflections on whether or not the city is still your city... and on the Disaster Artist. Great video as always - thanks for sharing! Even if there are too many motorcycle horns! :) (in the city - they were fine in the video) :)

Okay I loved this video, unscripted jay needs to come out more often! Thoughts- you vs ambient city noise is a level of low key angsty violence I didn’t know I would be this entertained by. 😂 two- I did not know the disaster artist was a book…. And I haven’t seen the Room -> please continue to be my friend I will bribe you. I am so happy you read no exit!!! Book vs film? And holy shit yes Jay why is there not a word in the English language for leaving a place and on returning missing the place as a moment in time/ life and not so much what it is now. Because the place it is now is not your place anymore. It’s not so much sadness or nostalgia as like loss and mild discomfort? I always feel like the place moved on without me. I move so much, this sort of thing really hit me in the feels. There will be other places and better memories, promise. P.s. did you go to school in an artistic spaceship building because I have so many questions 🤣

lol, that whole trip, I had tried to figure out how to do some kind of vlog in between working/seeing my friends. Literally the day I decide "Don't overthink it, just do the thing," the AMBIENCE came OUT xD. Oh my god, how many ppl didn't know The Disaster Artist was a book? Was James Franco's marketing campaign so bad that he never mentioned that was adapting a book??? I'm floored by his incompetence lol. But yes! Double feature -- The Family Fang & The Room!?! I knooow, I was thinking about this since the pandemic b/c for awhile I didn't want to visit LA again b/c it would be too painful for me. And even going back, I expected to feel that sad-nostalgia, but I still wanted to go back to my old haunts (if only for the pensive vlog content lol). It sucks though. Most of my friends are still in LA so I miss them a ton, but will never have them be a "short" drive away (there's no such thing in LA traffic).... Maybe the word we're looking for is "lostalgia?" Also, yes, my college was indeed very spaceship like. We're based in Boston so the main campus is slightly bigger. But we had an LA campus where the film majors would go for their senior year, and we used to call it the space jail xDDDD

I totally feel you regarding going back to a city you loved and it doesn't hit quite the same. It's sad, but maybe it's a great way to Marie Kondo it and say 'thanks for what you did, bye now' You'll find new places for sure! Big hug! (sorry didn't mean to bombard you!)

@my0.25lifecrisis 2 года назад
You could never bombard me! I appreciate what you’re saying, and it’s nice that a couple different ppl have experienced the same thing. It does suck that my LA years are over because I didn’t feel ready to leave LA when I did (stupid 2020😭). But it’s also comforting to know that I don’t want to live in LA again, that I want a different adventure. Imperfect thoughts but definitely a sad/sweet feeling. I do like that Marie Kondo sentiment tho! “Thank you LA for that special time we had together. 👋💖” that’s a nice way to look at it
