Good call with these covers, definitely worth having from an air movement blocker as well as fire preventative.

Crawl Space Ninja I like watching the crawl space videos. I had some difficulty with moisture in my crawlspace. I am getting it under control, so I don’t need to worry about it anymore.

Hi Mike, are the tenmet covers just laid-in place then sprayed foamed for adhesion? I hope to give my attic some attention from all the contractors’ work over the years. It’s amazing they punch the holes and never adequately address or seal the penetrations. Sad honestly.

Interesting. I think our modular home has the white fluffy foam around them. But I never installed anything not led when we had the house built 4 years ago. Our power bill is lower than our last home which was smaller. LED lights are worth the investment. Just get the correct color temperature bulbs or they can look crazy.

LED lights are awesome. Definitely agree that the color temperature can make things wild if you're not careful. Thanks for commenting!

Good video. Can the application of silicon caulking where the light meets the drywall assist in preventing any leakage into the attic. We just did a kitchen reno where we put 6 additional recessed lights and I believe the only thing compromised was the wire going through the vapor barrier. They are all IC LED models. In addition we upgraded the attic to R52. Comments?

New subscriber here.....no recessed lights here...but have the electric box flush to ceiling sheetrock with surface lights....do you recommend the same covers to slow leakage in my house or is there a smaller cheaper way or should I just ignore those?

Great question, David. There are actually a ton of different products out there that will work for electric boxes. Make sure to check out Amazon as well as the big Home DIY stores. You should be able to find a solution that isn't as expensive. We hope this helps. Thanks for watching and have a happy and blessed day.

Nice video! Should I get these if my LED hi hats are IC rated? Or is it safe to insulate right over and up to the hi hats, without the Tenmat?

Can someone please answer this question? If the recessed lighting can is IC rated, why do need this cover? I shoudl be able lay insulation right above this
@jonnie2316
@jonnie2316 9 месяцев назад
@@wsiddiqi even though you recessed can is rated for insulation contact, that doesn't mean the insulation will stop air leakage. with an IC rated can, the tenmat or can cover is there to reduce (or stop) air leakage. even though many IC rated cans say they're 'sealed' it doesn't mean they're airtight. that tightness is what the can cover helps accomplish if installed correctly.

Do you really need to spray foam around covers if you are adding insulation?
@jacobstrickland6991
@jacobstrickland6991 3 года назад
insulation is like a warm sweater... it insulates the temperature, but airflow with cut right through it... that is why on cold days you use a jacket over your sweater (blocks airflow). Therefore, yes you do need to sprayfoam/caulk (cause it is the jacket to the insulation)

I just can’t get on board with using these in the south. $15-20 each when I have almost 20 in the house, and that’s without paying someone to install. How long would it take to make that back in energy, ten or twenty years? Wouldn’t caulking around the light face form an airtight seal and prevent air leaking? A homeowner could DIY that for less than $10 total.
@CrawlSpaceNinja
@CrawlSpaceNinja 4 года назад
The light covers not only help keep the air from leaking, they also reduce the heat coming from the lights from getting into the attic and making it hotter, and it allows you to insulate your attic with blown-in insulation since you can't have the insulation covering the lights (fire hazard).

(former insulation laborer and navy electrician) not expert or certified, but...yes caulking around the face of the light at the edges would help some (slightly). Also I would be curious as to which part of the south u r referring to. (I've lived in a few diff places all over the South and currently own home in South AL) but just because u stop all the air doesn't mean u still won't lose a lot of heat energy, transfered thru thin, non-insulating materials, such as the metal that the light fixture is made of (metal is a good conductor, not insulator) or wood, or plastic (just depends on type and thickness..) this is how the infamous "R value" is calculated...how well the material "resists" (nothing will absolutely stop it) the transfer of thermal energy (i.e. 'heat') from one side (or 'thru') to the other (even if no air is being transferred) Sry hope u can understand that..

I suppose that would would - be careful not to expose to heat and check local codes for fire rating, if needed.

If it is Non-IC rated "No insulation can contact it" It could start a fire.

@@CrawlSpaceNinja hmmm…fiberglass insulation has been over my cans for 30 years. Also…this would have to be less of a concern with modern LED light retrofits
