RECREATIONAL PILOT CERTIFICATE: Flying Lesson #16 Solo Circuit Practice | Jabiru
Well, I'm at that stage of my flying training where I need to build up some more solo time in the air. And with a southerly wind that is bound to test my piloting kills on final approach, its a good time to do some more solo pattern work.
The more solo flying time I do, the more confidence I get in my own ability. Who knows, soon I might even be a pilot. Lets go flying...
ABOUT ME:
I'm a student pilot learning to fly in my spare time. I originally received 30 hours of flying instruction 17 years ago and now I'm back in the cockpit and learning how to fly all over again.
Currently flying out of Wollongong (YWOL), Australia in light sport aircraft such as the Jabiru and Pipestrel alpha with Fly Illawarra:

I just completed my first flying lesson today at Benalla. It was a cool flight. I maintained the attitude very well. A few times I was controlling the plane myself. Watching your video's has giving me confidence and something to put into my mind before training.

TREVOR DAWSON Well done mate! I found watching videos really helpful too prior to my lessons and afterwards as well

Hi RJW.. Thanks for the video! I also fly Jabiru's in South Africa. Such great little planes. Just a quick question.. Any reason why you would leave the carb heat on during landing? In the event of a go around you will lose some power. My final approach checks are CUFF. C - Carb heat off, U - Undercarriage (not applicable but good to know when you upgrade to bigger aircraft), F - Fuel (pump on, sufficient), F - Flap (as required). Good luck with your solo's!!

Jaco Pitout I did talk about this with my instructor. If I remember correctly, the power loss is negligible with the jab engine so in the case of a go around it's not going to make much difference. If carb goes off on short final you may still run the risk of carb ice. check out this forum post where I asked the exact same question: www.recreationalflying.com/threads/carb-heat-turn-off-short-final.149345/

Asad Ali Same to you mate! Really looking forward to 2017. Cross-country endorsement, tailwheel flying and some aerobatics should make for a fun year!

Gday once again. I know the vid is 4 years old. But I was just interested in your base and finals. Ive just finished practised forced landings and Engine failure in circuits. Can I ask what the safe landing distance marker or reference is on the Jab you were flying. Im learning in an FK9 and it has a marker on the strut. Basically (as Ive been instructed) anything inside that line is an achievable landing area If the SHTF . It may just be the way it looks in the vid. But boy you sure looked like you were well beyond the 45deg on the turn to base. Cause the final looked like a long approach. Not being picky. Just curious.

Joseph Gregory For the ra-aus pilot certificate you have to do 5 exams from memory.

Joseph Gregory it would be six if you included the exam you have to do for the cross country endorsement.
