I’ve learned somuchafter watching this video, THANKYOU, I’m 87 and have been diagnosed with mild to moderate rectocele prolapse,found whilst having cystoscope due to constant UTIs. I really don’t want surgery so using laxatives and kegel exercises. Fingers x it doesn’t get any worse I do have back discomfort most days.
@DrJeffreyMcQueary
@DrJeffreyMcQueary 5 месяцев назад
Kegels can help but another consideration is a pessary if you can find a comfortable one that fits. Your gynecologist should be able to help you with that. You can possibly avoid surgery doing the things. Hope all goes well.

I’ve had prolapse before, uterus, bladder & rectum prolapse, had hysterectomy, cystocele & rectocele repaired. Years later I had my bladder prolapse again, got it repaired. Now, I have another rectocele & I’m in awful pain in my back & my pelvic area. I was already suffering pain in my lumbar & tailbone from fusion on my L4L5 S1 13 yrs. ago. I also have neuropathy in my legs & feet. I’m 75 yrs. Old. My legs hurt if I walk for 5 minutes straight & my feet swell if I’m standing too long.

Well, I guess that’s what is my problem…..I am so scared to go to Dr. with this. Of all things. I am so modest. Poop in front of someone? I’m devastated.
@DrJeffreyMcQueary
@DrJeffreyMcQueary 4 месяца назад
Normally, if you go to the doctor for these type of bowel issues, the physician will not expect you to poop in front of them. So don’t be worried about that. The main issue is just understanding what’s causing your problems so that you can be presented with repair options.

How can a person fully empty bowels after the bowel movement without harming or making things worse? There is often “leftovers” and it is uncomfortable or gives a burning sensation after. Thank you for your time
@DrJeffreyMcQueary
@DrJeffreyMcQueary 5 месяцев назад
You will not harm yourself by pressing in on the rectocele to have a bowel movement. Just try not to strain too hard that will make the rectocele worse over time.

Thank you, Dr. Jeff! This was the most informative video I have seen on RU-vid so far on the subject of rectal prolapse. I have watched a lot of them over the last few months. I believe that’s exactly what I have and I’m pretty sure it hasn’t gone passed stage 2. I saw a colorectal surgeon about 4 months ago and on that day, he didn’t see anything protruding. Since then, it has gotten worse and my rectum is slightly peaking out. I’m 74 years old and I think the reason for the prolapse is previous straining and the fact that everything “down there” is weak now. Unfortunately, in the area I live in, there are no pelvic floor therapists. There are also no urology/gynecologists here either. I’ll be returning to the colorectal doctor next month for another evaluation. Of course, I’m hoping he doesn’t recommend surgery for me. I wish I lived in Tennessee because I would come to you without hesitation. Any input from you would certainly be appreciated. Thank you so much!

I had a hysterectomy,cystocele and rectocyle in 2022. I started having some issues in 2023. This year in 2024 is worse. I went to a gynecologist in Knoxville Tn,close to where I live. I’m going to check out a colorectal surgeon. Terrible surgery. Disgusted. The dr told me during exam that these surgeries are all he does. Shameful drs out there

Is there a connection between rectocele and diverticulitis? What about mediolaterial episiotomies?
@DrJeffreyMcQueary
@DrJeffreyMcQueary 8 месяцев назад
Rectal often can lead to constipation, which then often will lead to diverticulosis and diverticulitis. Lateral episiotomies are not typically associated with rectal but still, it’s trauma from birth and vaginal delivery that leads to a lot of these type of defects.

Im in severe pain. Ive had a hysterectomy 2 year ago and now im back to square one. Struggling having a bowel movement. I suffer with severe constipation and on alot of medication which does not help . It feels like i have something long and sharp in my rectum when i try and push down . Struggling with getting poop out and it feels like a big pocket inside the rectum and it feels like its closing off having a bowel movement. Ive tried enema to help get things moveing but water is just sits in a pocket inside my rectum and water is all filled up inside and does not release so its just stuck inside all filled up and im in really severe pain and keep being sick with it and struggling to eat because i keep being sick as my bowel feels so full inside like ive got a intestinal problem and i suffer with really bad acid reflux . Im in a real bad way and need help. The doctor did a home visit day before yesterday because im feeling really really poorly and struggling on the toilet. The doctor said she could not feel anything . But im in severe pain with it pressing down my rectum as if ive got poo stuck inside and im stressing out with it and the doctor that came out to me said she could not feel anything. Yet its there and im in severe pain. Shes saying everything is ok but i know its not . My body is telling me its not. So please could you help me with this because im in severe pain on the toilet . What can i do to help things by going to the toilet for a poop and my bladder is playing up as well with it . Its my bowel that is causing this im sure. So what are my next steps please.

Well it sounds like to me that you have a rectocele or just severe problems with constipation. Have you tried taking magnesium citrate? Or magnesium hydroxide? taking magnesium consistently can help. I tell my patients to take milk of magnesia, which is magnesium hydroxide every hour until they finally have significant bowel movements and that does help. If you feel that there is a bulge in the vaginal area from the rectum, you can push that back while you’re trying to have a bowel movement and that can help. You may need to see a gastroenterologist to see if they can give you any ideas about your constipation as well. You probably need to see a euro gynecologist who specializes in these defects to be able to identify a rectocele.

I had rectocele surgery twice in 2 years. I now have the issue of a rectal bulge after a bowel movement. The vagina area is fine as the surgeon told me that was fine. I don’t always have the bulge sometimes not always. I can push it back in and I’m fine. I would love your advice as to what this is. Thank you!
@DrJeffreyMcQueary
@DrJeffreyMcQueary 2 дня назад
There could be a weakness such as an enterocele, which is actually a hernia from above that typically comes down over the rectal area. You need an expert such as a Urogynecologist or pelvic floor trained urologist to look at this and see if that is what’s going on.

Does it cause pain to sit?
@DrJeffreyMcQueary
@DrJeffreyMcQueary 15 дней назад
If the rectocele is large enough, and it’s causing problems with bowel movements, then you could have a lot of pressure in that rectal and vaginal area that makes it uncomfortable to sit.
