red buttons was briljant, great sharp humor combined with a great timing, mimic. The way he works with the audience, waiting for a reaction, allowing them the time to think about the joke, he was probably one of the best, i can watch these old video recordings over and over again and he still puts a smile on my face, we miss him!
Thank you, Ira Goldberg for these marvelous videos! Red Buttons was a genius, this performance even more impressive considering we were still fresh off 9/11. He actually made something "bawdy" classy without using any vulgar language.
His comedy was universal and was absolutely brilliant, no matter the ethnicity of the audience, he cracked everyone up!! I miss him much. One of a kind!
Impeccable timing and delivery. The magic is in analogies everyone understood. Hollywood never knew what to do with Red Buttons although he won an Oscar. There's brilliance here.
Red Buttons was BRILLIANT in his comedic routines…still watch those roasts..have always wondered what the backstory is re that dance n move he would do with Dean..help this Jamsican get the 411 on that story…tonx…loved him n Foster Brooks
Those were the masters of real comedy! No one today could EVER pull off this humor! The only “comedic” sentences they know are filled with swearing! That’s not comedy, ANYONE can do THAT! Those days the timing was always perfect, the writers could right ! Too bad we can’t enjoy that humor anymore
I miss my grandpa. Don missed his hair. Don was a super nice man. On behalf of grandpa, thank you. He did it all to make you laugh. He sure kept me laughing. I cried for years after he passed. Excuse me, something is caught in my eyes. -JMN
You are right about his acting. He was good enough in Sayonara to win the Oscar for support. He was also entertaining in The Longest Day. However, he wasn't in The Five Pennies. That was Danny Kaye.
That evil grin Red had when he said Milton molested him as a child made dr pepper shoot out of my nose. Im gonna have a hard...scratch that...a difficult time getting the image of Miltons thing out of my mind. Thats a scary image.
If there was a Mt. Rushmore of comedians there would be four faces if they were my choice. 1. Milton Berle, known as Mr. TV. 2. Red Buttons, the tiny red haired Jew. 3. Richard Pryor, my favorite all time funny man. 4. Don Rickles, Mr. Warmth.
