CLIP DESCRIPTION:
The Wolverines employ the art of guerilla warfare, ambushing the enemy and quickly disappearing before reinforcements arrive.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Set at an indeterminate point in the future, this drama with an overt anti-communist message begins as an ostensible war movie: Russian and Cuban forces have invaded the U.S. and are viciously eliminating the inhabitants of a small town, when a group of teens escapes and plans a counterattack. Jed (Patrick Swayze), Robert (C. Thomas Howell), and six of their friends watch in amazement as soldiers parachute into their town and start shooting. The teens grab a pickup truck, stock up on supplies at the local store, and head for the hills. Meanwhile, the men in the town -- after a minimal resistance -- are rounded up and held at a drive-in theater converted into a concentration camp. The sadistic Soviet military then make them watch acclaimed Russian director Sergei Eisenstein's 1938 classic Alexander Nevsky, as their punishing rehabilitation begins. Meanwhile, after minimal resistance from the adults, a Cuban, Bella (Ron O'Neal), is put in charge and is not certain how he can really defeat the teen army. The Soviets and Cubans have so far defeated the American Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force, but these teens are really something else. After a successful ambush, the teen guerrillas gear up for future forays, when they are suddenly betrayed by one of their number and by doubts about the morality of what they are doing. Red Dawn is noteworthy for being the first movie released with the PG-13 rating, created by the MPAA after public outcry over violent content in the PG-rated Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Gremlins.

@@jimbutke the USA was done with Afghanistan. The USA withdrew most the troops, mothballed it's bases and spent the last two decades training the afghan military how to fight the taliban and when we were leaving the Afghan military got rolled and the taliban interrupted the peaceful withdrawal of the USA's final troops and equipment. Pick up a book and stop spreading false information on the internet. If the USA actually was at war with taliban the entire nation of Afghanistan would be glass. This is how it works with young motivated guerillas in almost every insurgency. They start off sloppy, learn the enemy, lay traps because of their better knowledge of the terrain and become stronger over time. They don't win any frontal engagement. They just bleed the invaders until the invaders leave. Partisans committed to fighting for their homeland are the fiercest fighters in War.

@maximuscaligula
@maximuscaligula 4 года назад
I believe you are referring to what Imperial Japanese Navy C-inC ADMIRAL Isoroku Yamamoto wad quoted as saying, reportedly during an argument with some Japanese Army hotheads including the obnoxious snd arrogant Hideki Tojo (of whom Yamamoto disliked intensely). Its disputed,yeah, maybe he didn't say it like that wird for eird, but Yamamoto soent plenty of t in the USA including Harvard and Washington DC. Even right before the Pearl Harbor attack he warned his officers that many misinformed Japanese have been sold great ooropaganda from Tokyo and what often came from the Axis propagandists in Berlin and Rome. That Americans were morally and spiritually corrupt and were only interested in living a life of luxury/had undisciplined even pacifist-leaning third or maybe second-rate soldiers , could only manufacture refrigerators and razorblades, etc. etc. ad nauseum. The Admiral went on to point out of his time in America and that Americans wtete a proud and just people and that if they ever tragically did go to ear against each other, Japan (who in over a thousand+ years had never lost a war, except for some embarrassing minor border clashes against Soviet tank units led by the future Hero of the Soviet Union Marshal Georgi Zhukov along Mongolia/Manchuria in the 1930's in which they seriously had their asses handed to them by Zhukhov and his tanks,) the United States of America would be the most powerful and most dangerous foe Japan would have ever fought. He DID say this though when some Japanese Navy staff officer asked the Admiral what chances realistically did Japan have vs. the USA in the Pacific, "For six months I can run wild in the Pacific and raise hell, after that, I can guarantee nothing..."

@nathanapplegate5374
@nathanapplegate5374 5 лет назад
No. It needed to be remade. In this version, the revolt movement never grows. Most of the action seemingly takes place in the middle of nowhere in a small desert town of no significance other than because movie. Oh and the brutality of the socialistic regime is grossly underestimated in this film. Now compare that to the remake. The action takes place in a crowded city in Washington state as opposed to being in the middle of nowhere. The resistance movement actually grows and gains popularity. And the 2012 remake actually depicts the brutality of the enemy regimes fairly accurately. Obviously they didn’t show everything, but the remake does show prison camps and guilt by association, attempted public execution on suspicion, and execution for spoken words.

@William-13
@William-13 7 лет назад
Contractnik Throughout history there have actually been armored airborne units. Though it isn't what you think. During ww2 for instance , the Empire of Japan had Marine Paratroopers which were part of the SNLF , some units of the SNLF became armored units such as the 3rd Yokosuka.
@erwin669
@erwin669 6 лет назад
At the time the 82nd Airborne Division had an airborne armor battalion equipped with M-551 Sheridans. The Soviets were (and the Russians still are) dropping BMDs with their airborne formations.
@erwin669
@erwin669 6 лет назад
BMDs are the airborne equivalent to the BMP. The M8 AGS never entered service as the program was canceled in 1997. The Strikyer with the 105mm gun is the M1128. Production of the 1128 was halted in 2012 after the US bought 142 vehicles and no one knows if they are going to restart production.

The upscaling of their ability over time to destroy the enemy is quite dependent on the acquisition of the weapons of their dead foes without any outside help. They basically used every engagement to acquire more materials and experience with tactics to become stronger. Nice.

2/26/22. Russia invaded Ukraine 3 days ago. Yesterday, I saw a Ukrainian officer being interviewed by an American journalist. There were 1000 civilians signing up to be military volunteers. The journalist asked the officer if they had enough guns for all the volunteers. Ukrainian officer answered: “No. We will take them from the Russians”. I think he saw this film.

They're actually Cuban/some South American country. The beginning montage brings up as a plot point how South America went communists and allied with the Soviets. Also for what it is worth for real world parallels Cuba still has FN FALs in its inventory and South America was really big on the FN FAL back in the 80s. So for the movie's story it adds a bit more size and scope to it.
