I love the development of Rimmer's character, from "No chance, you metal bastard" to being willing to sacrifice himself for the rest of the crew. That exchange between Listy and Rimsy, "The sun and the moon" made me fill up a bit! ;')
I'm not sure if it's so much Rimmer's development as much as it is Cat telling him he doesn't exist earlier in the episode, but I will fully agree that I absolutely loved the moonlight talk.
Yeah, Rimmer is always against being shut off. He was only willing to here because what Cat said screwed him up and he was thinking “what’s the point in me staying on? I’m not real, I turn off it won’t matter”
When Lister mentions that they were able to fit all of Holly onto such a comparatively small disk, thats a reference to Bodyswap when Kryten mentions they could fit all of Lister's personality and so forth onto a small device (which was a dictaphone cassette)
The black and white Rimmer in The Promised Land is a call back to the original concept for the character who was meant to be portrayed in this style. Budgets of the time meant it couldn't be done but I thought it was a nice inclusion in The Promised Land. A nice video nevertheless. I have to say I really enjoyed how they took the original stories and built them into the script for The Promised Land. It really felt like classic Dwarf. I was hoping that by the end they'd finally get to Earth and Fiji with a shot of them wading through 3 feet deep water but I suppose that might have been to much.
Apparently there’s no plans to end the series so I’m guessing the show will end with just a generic episode instead of a special or definitive end point
They're 3 million years into space, I'm betting none of them live long enough to get back to Fiji. Hmmm maybe didn't the Hollyhop drive travel through time?
@@DodgyBrothersEngineering The holly hop drive jumped to another dimension. They did get a time machine in the last episode of series 6 but without a faster than light drive it was useless. That's the episode with their future selves. As for getting back to earth there's nothing to say they couldn't use the stasis pods again or a wormhole or find a faster than light drive or some other sci-fi thing. The show started with them 3 million years from earth but considering all other things they've been through it'd be impossible to know where they are now.
Another callback was one of the first lines Rimmer said when he was a hologram, "I'm not really here. I'm not really me. I'm a computer simulation of me..." paired nicely with Rimmer wondering if he was real in TPL.
I think they've just embraced the classic one like the rest of the world. Even with the best script in the world, you can't recreate the chemistry of the "Boys from the Dwarf". Even adding Kochanski and side characters damaged it. (Not a knock on Chloe as an actress or anything, it was just that it upset the dynamic - it's no coincidence to me that it hit it's stride again when it was just the four in deep space again)
7:54 RIMMER: You've just come here to rub my nose in it. I could have been God, you know, given a different start in life, given the lucky show-biz break you had."
I've wanted them to meet the cat people for a long time now. I predicted the cat people would come back and they would find the cat uncool, not exactly but close. I also predicted the female cats wouldn't want him and he'd be frustrated but that didn't happen. I think I caught all the Waiting for God References, one of my favorite early episodes, but missed a couple of others. Still funny after all these years.
It was really weird that The Cat didn't even try to seduce the female cats, given how he acted everytime when they met a woman. The only explanation i Can think of is that they are old now, like Rimmer mentioned at the start, so The Cat doesn't care anymore.
Odd that you play a clip from series 12 episode Cured as representing the 'Boys From The Dwarf' quote. It was first seen in the series five episode Demons and Angels.
The dialogue scene in demons and angels you are referring to is pure class. 'Look I'm just be realistic you guys only have 7 minutes left to live, that tragic, GARD ITS TRAGIC ...'
The Om Song was also call backed to in season 12 three times: "The Om Song!" Kryten, Silliconia "Here, the Om Song could go platinum!" The Cat, Timewave "OM.... (pulls out knife) OM.... (plunges it into Rimmer as he skips away)" The Cult from the Dwarf, Skipper
I wish they left the cat as he was for the 1st 2 series. He liked Lister but was really only concerned with his appearance, mating and food, like he was still Lister's cat. He should have easily disappeared back into the walls with his knowledge of the ship when everyone else was in prison, constantly just showing up out of nowhere and leaving just the same without ever helping anyone purposely.
We seem to have 3 smeg heads, set bazookoids' to homing ! Good video, I watched this in hospital and was pleased to see such respect for the cannon, most writers need to take his example
At first they took this video down but I contested it (free use) and then it suddenly popped up again. I was surprised and still am! I don't make money from it though so I guess that helps.
