Marshal was at the twilight of his career when this test match was played in 1990, he had lost his pace at that period of time, but bundle of experience under his belt, he was still a threat to the batsmen just like he set it up for IK in this clip!
Magnificent Marshall !! I remember this spell from him. And it still hurts. Due to this spell Pakistan lost a great opportunity of winning the series against them. They were one up in the series and as the commentators are saying were in a solid position before lunch.
Legend Marshall. Never sledged any batsmen. He is a great and a good sportsman. Player like Ponting have great stats but he's not a gentleman the way he behaved on the field.
What an era of Lillie, Thomson, Roberts, Holding, Croft, Garner, Marshall, Imran, Wasim Akram , Waqar younis, Shoib Akhtar, Hadlee,Botham . I am proud to live in that era and watched them.

Loved the first ball into the ribs getting Imran to fend it off so that FSL would catch it. Imran let it go instead of his ego getting him to use the bat. He should have done that to the pitched up outswinger also. Easy for me to say when I am not facing MM 🙂
Kapil Dev was the best all rounder of that era. His batting was ahead of all the rest all rounders. Dev could smack any bowler like what happens in T20 matches these days. Kapil Dev scored more than 5000 runs in tests and took 400 plus wickets. And definitely was the best athlete, best fielder from the famous four allrounders of that time. Recall the backward running catch he took of Viv Richard’s, which won India the World Cup in 1983. Even Sunny Gavaskar profusely praises Kapil Dev’s batting prowess. What a hero he is in India even today!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Kapil dev played these bowlers easily and scored 4 many times against them, it is called class, statistically imran little ahead may be than kapil but if class concerned kapil was miles away.

Imran was a a naturally gifted Bowler who was a very good reader of this game and utilized this skill of his to leverage his batting and proved to be a very useful batsman for pakistan during his later 7-8 years where he scored most of his runs against not so great fast bowling attacks like Srilanka, India and England.(of that time) He rarely tasted success with bat against genuinely good fast bowling attacks in Australia, England or westindies etc( except very few innings) to improve his batting stats. Most of the times you will find that he exposed tailenders against fast bowlers and returned not out to improve upon his batting average. He was a naturally gifted leader as well and a real shrewd cricketer
@vinaytripathi157 not sure what you're on about buddy. But he averaged 35 against England and England had Willis and Botham...both very good fast bowlers. He averaged 37 against Australia and 51 against NZ that included Hadlee. In fact he only averaged 30 against Sri Lanka so I'd recommend you do some research my friend. Also he was never a naturally Gifted bowler, of the 4 great all rounders of the 80's Botham was the most talented and Imran the least. He just worked very very hard on his skill. As far as Not Outs are concerned that's exactly how MS Dhoni bloated his average as well however Imran also bowled. :)

In pakistan he had second highest batting average in first class cricket after Zaheer Abbas actually his bowling skills is overshadowing his batting he would have made 2 to 3 more 100s but he always gave priority to his team he declared his innings on score of 90s his first priority was team not his personal records!!
@@vinaytripathi157 One should do some research before sharing a comment. 1982 & 1987 Eng tours and 1990 Australian tour are prime examples of Imrans brilliance as a batter. Plus on the 1984 Aus tour Melbourne test he scored two 70 odd. By far the best all rounder amongst the 4 great all rounders.
What's your age, I mean your age in cricket? Imran Khan was the only Skipper of Pakistan who never lost his hope in his players during any contest. He was brave warrior in cricket and he fought with the many hurricanes of the time and at that time Pakistan was a prominent team. If you disagree with me, which is the possibility in every discussion, compare and contrast the era of Pakistan cricket in his time with present and try to find the conclusion with honesty.

Marshall like Warne could make the flattest pitch seem spicy; pitch quality seems to be a forgotten art. Many have attested to the fact that many subcontinental ones were not well prepared: One reason that spinners made magic through the air. I would have loved to see Roberts, Marshall et al., in a pink ball Test: It was what World Series Cricket was. It may be an idea to use a Kookaburra and then a Dukes for the 2nd new ball: Even if not completely successful, it will produce interesting contests. RIP Marshall unparalleled legend.

Too quick for Imran who seemed a bit intimidated by a clearly irritated Marshall. Messed with his footwork with a few shorter ones and eventually got Khan groping at the sucker ball.
What does that even mean? Of course he was. Not as naturally gifted as many great players perhaps, but you don't achieve what he did with the bat without being extremely talented.
Most batsmen would have gone to the hospital with a rib fracture on the first ball. Only because this was Imran -- an injury was avoided by quick reflexes and reading of the bouncer. Also the umpire prob did not give that plumb LBW on the second ball to avoid getting Lynched by the crowd right there.

Can't say for sure. He had a very poor batting record against WI overall but very respectable overall. I watched him against SA at the 92 world cup and he seemed technically a bit challenged against pace and bounce on those pacy pitches. But it was at the end of his career.
