If you saw my 'Top 20 pedals of 2021' video, you'll remember that I didn't have too many kind words to say about this one. So here are my positive observations, followed by a clarification of my criticisms:
Positive.
I love the size of this pedal. It's the perfect balance between being slim enough to easily fit onto a cramped board, yet being large enough to comfortably fit all the knobs and switches onto it, in a way that doesn't feel crowded. I also love the fact that it has top jacks, despite being a stereo pedal and having an extra control input.
I really appreciate the selection of reverb modes in this pedal. There are very few options out there for reverb pedals with a gated and reverse mode, as well as the more traditional spring, plate, room, and hall modes. The grain mode on this, though, is just the icing on the cake! 😙👌
I also really love the on-board delay and modulation, which can be used globally across all the reverb modes.
Negative.
Despite all of the great things the Context V2 can do, I'm just not that excited by the SOUND of it! The algorithms sound a tad lifeless and sterile to me, apart from the grain mode which I really like.
It also doesn't really get as huge as I'd like it to be. Even with the decay turned up all the way, the trails always seem to give up and go home a lot sooner than you expect them to. The only way to get huge talks is to use the momentary hold function to freeze one of the reverb engines, but at this price point, I really don't want to have to do that in order to get the epic ambience I want.
I don't like the tiny knobs for the 'Hi' and 'Lo' frequency adjustment, as they're difficult to turn, and you can barely see what they're set to.
I know these don't seem like major issues when you weigh them against the positives, but for me, I was expecting this pedal to be close to perfect, so the fact that it fell short of my expectations in a few different ways, was impossible for me to move past.
The hunt for my perfect reverb pedal continues...

I was just about to say:"Is it my imagination or did I not just recently hear you present your somewhat less than enthusiastic 'critique' (if that's the right word) of this pedal not too long ago?" So, you can imagine my surprise when I woke up this morning to this dedicated, if revised demo. I've thought about your earlier observations more than once since your initial comments, and came to very same conclusion you did in the above remarks, right down to the exact word "sterile". -Precisely, and to be fair, the 2 Red Panda pedals that I do have (Particle and Tensor) share this trait, aside from changing (noticeably) the incoming signal, particularly overdrive, distortion and fuzz tones. I don't think it's a good/bad proposition, just a matter of taste and utility, and mind you, I LOVE the two that I have, I just don't use them with dirt. That's all. -Cheers!

Thanks for the response. Yeah, I've sat on this video for about 3 months as I just haven't had the motivation to edit and upload it, until this week. I should clarify that I don't feel the same way about the Tensor and Particle, which I love. It's just that when I compared this pedal to my Supernatural, it was completely blown out of the water. The Supernatural remains the best reverb I've ever tried, and will probably retain that title until I get to try a Ventris, Mercury 7, R1, Dark World, and Golden Reverberator. 😉

Seriously one of the demos of this pedal I’ve seen. Well done. Could have been three times the length!

Thanks! Yeah, there aren't many for some reason. Red Panda pedals always seem to be popular, but not reviewed or demo'd that much... What did your other comment say? RU-vid shows me the notification but when I try to open it, says it's "no longer available".

I love this pedal but tend to only use grain and cathedral atm. I agree the Hi and Lo knobs are bit fiddly. I've painted the notches white and find them much better to use. Is this with the update released in December? I've not updated mine yet but there is an added "drone mode" to not have to hold down footswitches

Painting the notches on those tiny knobs is a great tip! Red Panda should do that with the stock ones. No, I filmed this demo several months ago and then immediately sold it, so I never got to try the new update. If I ever find myself with money to burn, I might get another one and see if the new tweaks make it a keeper for me... Thanks for watching!

I totally agree with the underwhelming algorithms, I just got it, kinda debating sending it back...I actually thought mine might be defective.

I'm glad it wasn't just me. Haha! It's so frustrating though, as it's my perfect reverb pedal on paper. 😒

even you didn´t like Context V2 at all, it was a good review, what´s your current best reverb pedal?

I didn't hate it, I just didn't like it as much as I was hoping to. I'm still trying to find the reverb of my dreams, but I currently have a Source Audio Ventris which is absolutely incredible, although it doesn't have a gated reverse mode. The best reverb section I've ever had, was my Digitech RV-7 and Supernatural, but they took up too much space on my board.

I've watched the Do Noise video and it's terrible. It only explains a few things and since he never puts the balance above 40%, it doesn't do justice to the Gate or Reverse reverbs. His demo seems more like a guitar player who doesn't really like reverb and only uses it sparingly. If you're going to spend $249 or so on a reverb pedal you probably DO like reverb. As for me, buying this pedal now gives me 8 reverb pedals. Oh, and liked your video.

I personally really liked his demo, but I know what you mean about his reluctance to turn the mix up. Haha! Thanks for watching!
