What do generational stars matter? The Padres, Phillies, Dodgers, and Yankees were loaded with talent, yet the Astros with an aging roster and without Brantley won the World Series. The teams with talent seldom win the World Series. It's all about chemistry in baseball. You need some talent, but you don't need a team full of stars. Usually, those players are money chasers and would never choose winning over an extra buck.

His power is way off he had 15 homeruns and around 70 RBI's which is a far cry from 90 and a 100. He gets on base with a 3.77 OBP. He's good he has his silver bats but 11 years is out of the question with no trade clause.

I'm a Red Sox fan but 11 years is ridiculous with a no trade clause the Padres will regret it. Boston needs pitching the BP blew 28 games this season the worse in baseball. They just signed 2 solid arms plus i think today the Braves closer correct me if 'm wrong about the Braves. The guy was 5 and 2 with 41 saves Boston is signing people where it's mostly needed. They can move Storey from 2nd to short since he's a regular SS and a better fielder then Bogey whi isn't noted as a great SS. he'''ll make the plays but his range isn't the best. there were several short stops on the market Bogey wasn't the first choice. The Padres will find Bogey to be steady with good clubhouse leadership so good luck to the Padres.

The problem with this is now the Sox will literally have to back the truck up to secure Devers because I don't know if management would be able to survive the fan backlash of losing a third franchise player in four years. He is only 26 years old as well so they need to realize that offer will have to be in the ballpark of 10-12 years/$300M since there will be quite a few other teams more than willing to go that length.
@cardslifer2828

To answer the obvious question, No you do not need to spend 10 year 250-300M deals to be a WS Caliber team. HOU has nobody making anywhere near 200M, allowed Correa and Springer to leave and easily won the WS last season. Comes down to pitching, minor league development and smart free agent investments. This would have been foolish for BOS to meet.

Agreed. The meta has always been behind the scenes. Evaluation and making small moves, drafting and knowing when to flip prospects to fill holes. Since the 90s, this blueprint of throwing money at free agents rarely pans out. Yankees, Phillies, Padres...all 3 won't be winning the WS. In fact, Philly probably won't cut the playoffs again, not without a deeper system and better pitching. But it's the same story, every season. It makes the fans temporarily excited and full of WS dreams until player x gets hurt, player b-f can't pitch, and player x can't hold down the lead.

Who cares, have you seen this team now? At the end of their big 4 contracts it's possible this team might be underperforming again. Oh no, we've never experienced that before. The next 5-7 years is going to be our best years in existence. Gotta pay to play, and finally we're in the game.

@@rayfinkle9369 as a padres fan, I get it. I just would’ve been not too happy with Boston paying this. San Diego has their best core rn in awhile, just got embarrassed by Judge and Turner not taking their high offers so they opened the wallet for Xander. It makes sense for them right now, just a bit of an overpay
@rayfinkle9369
@rayfinkle9369 Год назад
@@jordanrhodes929 Yeah, most of these top FAs are gonna be overpays. But Preller decided to trade our farm away, so this is now how he has to operate to keep it going. Not sure how Boston is going to keep replacing these dudes like Bogaerts and Betts, but they're gonna need to figure it out if they want to beat Houston and NY. I know getting rid of our best players over the decades has never won us anything. I'm just finally glad they're trying to play with the big guys.

In 2018, the Sox were the envy of the baseball world. 6...count them...6...young homegrown starting position players. Bogaerts, Betts, Benintendi, Bradley, Jr., Vazquez, and Devers. Devers is the only one left, and he will be gone after 2023. Bloom completely dismantled a team filled with home-grown talent. He brags about developing talent, then treats him like garbage and won't pay them. Everyone keeps talking about Bogaerts' contract...the Sox treated him like garbage and never, EVER, tried to keep him. 4 teams offered him $200 million plus, but all the Sox offered was 6/$160. Bogaerts could have been locked in for fewer years and more money before last season began and Turner skewed the market. Bloom has proven he cannot negotiate with "A-Tier" talent and their agents. He's a small-market GM with a small-market mentality. How does he still have a job in Boston?

Sinve we're so hot on not keeping our best players, my Red Sox should now let Devers get away without getting anything for him, and then sign players from the local beer softball league. Seems like that's what they'd rather have. Jeezus, we had Betts, Bogaerts, JBJ, and Devers in addition to guys like JD. Alls we needed was starting pitching that didn't get hurt every year like the made of glass Sale and we would of contended for several years. But no. Now we lost three of those four and we still have absolutely zero starting pitching. We won't contend for the next 5 years at least. Why not finish the job and trade the farm system for a bag of used baseballs? I know what I won't be doing next summer. Paying attention to baseball.

Ownership needs to wake up if they want to compete, the homegrown talent should be given contract extensions long before they are eligible to hit the open market! By then it is too late, they did this with Lester, then Betts, now Boggie, next is Devers but the problem is there is no talent in the pipeline in order to replace what is lost, the prospects are still about two years away:(
