"The 'B' in LGBTQ is not a silent letter." Needs far more acknowledgement than it gets. One need not be one or the other; one can like both. Bisexual is one of the earliest letters in that for a reason.
It's also a reference to a part of the book where the President had notes for the campaign regarding the LGBTQ+ community, which specifically highlighted bisexual Americans.
@@charlesterry2480oh plenty of people say otherwise all the time. When I came out to my lesbian friend in highschool her response was "one step closer to being one of us", meaning lesbians. Oftentimes bisexual men are told that they're actually gay but haven't accepted it, bisexual women are told that they're straight but experimenting, and bisexual nonbinary people are often left out of the conversation entirely. Even within the LGBTQ community biphobia is a real thing that people have to deal with. Which is why things like this are important.
@@kaelalist9656 sure jan. I think its best nonbinary bisexuality are left out of the "conversation" if that were the case. Things like what are important for what?
The part where she gives him "the talk"... that level of specificity... if my mom started talking like that I'd pretty much just want the ground to swallow me whole. lol
What I love about this scene is she's still smiling when he says she's a he like she had a feeling that he might come out but what stunned her was that he was with Henry.
@@charlesterry2480 how do you figure? She’s supportive in the whole scene and literally says to get snacks in there. I’m not saying she wouldn’t do her job, but being a supportive mother in that moment was clearly more important to her than her profession. Beautiful scene, great work from Uma and Taylor.
@@grantgilbert2822 I know that being a president is a full time job but it shouldn’t be taken THAT literally. And beautiful scene? Honeyyyyyy that last half was giving me physical pain. Make it stop!
Can I just give some immediate appreciation to the fact that she's brushed up enough on LGBTQ+ issues and safety that she is able to give the sex talk 2.0 off the top of her head, because how many could do that when they believed their only child was straight? Honestly for me that says a lot about her as a president/person that she keeps up to date on those kinds of health issues and needs because she just genuinely cares.
Spoiler: for those who didn't read the book, the mom did in fact make a PPT completed an hour after he came out and then had this lovely little talk, and she had a bunch of pamphlets ready... Alex ran out. lulz
Also the title of the slide is so iconic, I am kinda still a bit mad they left it out of the movie 'Exploring your sexuality: healthy, but does it have to be with the prince of England?'
I just love this scene so much. Alex, as nervous as he was to tell his mom, did so and she took it all in stride despite her shock at learning her son was dating Henry, loving and supportive as she did❤ then it got funny when she started making Alex uncomfortable with the sex talk 2.0😂
The part when his mom ask whether Alex is sure about his relationship, and Alex answers: "I don't know we are there yet Mom, or ever will be." It breaks my heart. He is not sure whether his love to Henry will be reciprocated. He was just taking care the now, he wants to let his mom know. FIRST.
I will be coming out to my mom in a little over a month before I leave for a different country for work. Wish me luck guys. Hoping she'd be able to accept me liking men and women. Update: I already came out to my mom and sister. They accept me for who I am and regardless of what I am. Thanks for those who wished me luck! ❤️
Ellen Claremont's Face Journey(tm) is a goddamn *gift.* *Alex:* I'm bi *Ellen:* That's great, honey, I love you :) *Alex:* ....and shagging the 4th in line to the British throne *Ellen:* .... *Ellen:* ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME
Love Uma Thurman so much. What's great about actors is you see them as the person they really are in all their roles. She is really reminiscent to her role as Beatrix Kiddo here ❤❤
I would also love to live in the world where Umer Thurman is president. This scene is so well done and Uma Thurman has been a consummate actress brilliant actress for so many movies and here she's doing this series that is just impeccable. Bob. L
Uma Thurman just gets hotter with age. And if this is her long term plan to exact revenge on Ethan Hawke for him cheating on her, then I'm all for it! 😄👏🔥
@@mirandamoran4791 yes plus i think homosexual men take a lot more precautions i guess than straight couples..she was talking about appointments, and hiv tests and stuff though AIDS isn't a gay disease, it can happen to both men and women
At this stage, quite a few people in the US are now aware of Alex and Henry but in the UK, Henry is still in the closet no-one (apart from Bee) knows of this relationship and continued not to know for some time.
Oh God! The Prince of England?????? Have you poor people never heard of WALES? Now come on, I know Wales is a hole of a country, but a bit of accuracy here, Yankeeland?
The thing is that if you use the correct title you have to spend time explaining why is the Prince of Wales and not the Prince of England, and sadly, for some audience you have to explain that Wales is a country at all.
Henry isn’t the Prince of Wales. First of all, his mother would be the direct heir to the throne, as the King (Queen in the book) is his grandparent. Secondly, he has an older brother. Henry is the spare.
I've never read anyone talk about his mom's comment around 2:00 about a relationship like this changing his life. I wonder if that's what happened to her? Alex's father kinda seems like he was a nobody until he married her, plus he's a minority ethnically. Just sounds like she's speaking from experience, but I think it was too subtle for the audience to pick up on it.
