AS WITH ALL MY VIDEOS I TRY TO GIVE THE MOST INFORMATION IN THE LEAST AMOUNT OF TIME AS POSSIBLE SO I DONT WAIST YOUR TIME. IN THIS VIDEO I GO OVER HOW I DIAGNOSED WHY THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER ON MY DASH CAME ON ALONG WITH CODES P0046, P2599, P003A, BA200, AND B2AAA. I GO OVER WHAT THESE CODES MEAN SOME POSSIBILITIES ON WHY THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER CAN COME ON AND WHAT I DID TO DIAGNOSE MY TRUCK WITH A CODE READER WITH SOME SELF DIAGNOSTICS WITHOUT THE USE OF A TECH 2 SCANNER. KEEP IN MIND THERE ARE SEVERAL POSSIBILITIES OF WHY THIS CAN HAPPEN AND I AM GOING OVER SOME THINGS TO CHECK ALONG WITH WHAT WAS WRONG WITH MY TRUCK!!! I GAVE MY BEST GUESS OF WHAT WAS WRONG WITH MY TRUCK AND GOT LUCKY WITH A GOOD EDUCATED GUESS. IT ENDED UP BEING THE TURBO VANE ACTUATOR AND I GO OVER THE REPLACEMENT OF IT WITH SOME HELPFULL TIPS TO MAKE THIS PROCESS GO EASIER.

STABILITRAC can throw a lot of ghost codes that can make repair facilities a lot of money and not even get close to the exact reason for the reduced engine power. We have a sudden attack of the TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER which then threw the REDUCED ENGINE POWER and CYLINDER 7 which was NOT defective. In my case we received; P0097, P00F4, P0113, P227B, P227D, P0207, P021A, and P1050, P0307. Just to get the TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER to SHUT UP I unplugged my trailer wire, pulled the trailer brake controller fuse and even the trailer brake charger fuse and it STILL continued. Turns out the wire harness was damaged from rubbing on the frame and had exposed wired that were shorting and grounding out that also caused other systems to malfunction. True these systems were in need of attention (NOX sensors and DEF Pump) however they had nothing to do with either the TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER or the DEF pump. We have also had the REDUCED ENGINE POWER just from the MASS AIR FLOW wire being loose. After replacing the NOX sensor, pulling the trailer brake switch, trailer brake wire, and trailer brake controller we repaired the wire put it all back in and the only thing that was left was the DEF Pump. SUDDENLY, we also needed a new particulate exhaust sensor too (imagine that).

EXCELLENT video, thanks Dan! Also great thatyou mentioned that you got DPF fluid codes as well. I got similar but some different codes. A local diesel shop guessed actuator, DFP heater and DPF pump. I'm hoping just actuator may solve this, now I know how to try.

Very good video!!! I'm having similar codes like the 0046 and the 2599. I only have 80,000 miles on mine. I purchased the vane position sensor, but it doesn't match any of the sensors I have on the truck.

45 k on my 2018 L5P. Has ran great pulling our 30 ft travel trailer. All of a sudden last week went into low power mode. Shut down, restart, then drove another 100 yards and went into low / reduced power mode again. Pulled over and called for a tow to the local GM dealer. While waiting, the engine idled smooth, would Rev up smoothly and sounded great. Been in the shop now for a week ( impacted by the holidays), but what I am hearing from the tech the codes are pointing to a fuel pressure issue. He continues to converse with GM on what to do next. I wish I had more info on the codes being activated and will visit the dealer on Jan 3 to get the latest update.

For whatever reason the Duramax with Allison trans can go crazy if a code is thrown. Recently had Fuel Temperature sensor go off which in returned caused my trans to go crazy. Took to a diesel performance shop to double check, they said its normal for a code to fly and them makes things crazy, I never new it would be that crazy.

A bad ignition switch can cause the trans to go crazy the ignition starts getting a bad connection on the contacts and does not supply the proper voltage to the trans causing all kinds of problems

How did you check the turbo?? To make sure it was not sticking??

When you have the actuater lever off move the turbo lever by hand and feel for any stiff spots in the stroke

Those cleaning systems for the most part run at higher RPMs, like highway driving so extended idling for long periods, can sometimes lead it to not cleaning and force the cleaning but if your actuator is not working correctly, you are not getting the boost you need, and it will run very dirty, which can force the clean as well. What does your boost gauge read? Is it reading like it normally did or lower

If the actuator doesn’t move at all when you rev is that a sign that’s it’s bad. I think so but just wanted to be sure before I replace

Yes but it could also be not getting told to move if there is a wiring issue but i would suspect a bad actuator

It’s just called an actuator but basically look it up under electric motor that controls the boost of the turbo

Ok because my truck is having the same issue been to the dealers 3 times and still no fix my truck is bringing up p0191 for fuel rail pressure sensor but mechanic says he replaced it but the same codes coming up and keeps going into limp mode

@@travonelam7466 that code has more to do with your fuel pressure which could be caused by a fuel filter housing is a very common issue possibly a injector or the wiring pigtails to the injectors is more likely I don’t think it is going to be your actuator on the turbo good luck
