+This Exists not just synthetic marijuana, there's hyper versions of a lot of different drugs, there's a super powerful LSD called Dragonfly which causes a three day trip and need I mention Krokodil? I think a weird drugs episode would be perfect.

+This Exists I just about killed myself because of synthetic cannabis. I was doing a couple packets a day. I forgot how to talk to people properly. Forgot what made me happy. Its 2 years later and I now am starting to feel normal again. I don't think I ever will be the person I was before I was introduced to synthetics. But I am getting there, I can wake up without hating myself now. And I can fall asleep without rolling around telling myself how much of a cunt I am. You really should do an episode on sythetics.

How do you research these episodes? I've been getting into foreign rap (I live in Finland) and I find it kinda hard to find to get into the underground scene of many countries because of the language barrier. Any tips? Also, you have the dopest channel on RU-vid, keep it up!

much0J thuggish? when i was in highschool i had a presentation and i talked about labeling theory and judgements. I took lines from poets like langston hughes and shakespear and placed them along side lines rappers like nas, common and talib kweli. i asked them poem or rap? i had them fooled because they let words like "thuggish" influence their presumptions

It's interesting to note hip hop's ability to relate to people. Unlike other genres where people attempt to put on proverbial masks in order to blend in with the subject matter of that genre (like metal or some derivatives of punk music), hip hop has an element of reality to it. People rap about the things they rap about in American hip hop (street violence, gang culture, etc.) not because they advocate for it, but because they lived it. Frankly, something like refugees rapping about their own life experience and the hardships that they have to deal with not only fits in with the mission statement of hip hop as an art form, but it probably one of the most "hip-hop-like" things you can rap about.

The video that you showed was actually of Yang Dong-geun (YDG) who did a collaboration with Kang Chun Hyuk, the North Korean defector, to make hip-hop music, but that isn't him.

Thanks, Sam! You have added to my already very positive attitude of the refugee movement. I'm from Austria (8 mio. inhabitants) and most of the refugees heading for Germany came through Austria. Up to 15.000 a day. And although there are (far too) many xenophobic and antiislamic assholes here, a lot more Austrians were there to help them day and night. no borders! no nations! As a fan of 'This Exists' in Korea, I want to talk about the fact that this show has delivered the confusing information. The movie shows Korean Rapper, but he is not the refugee from North Korea. His name is Yang Dong-Geun(a.k.a YDG), which is very famous rapper in Korea for his definitive flow and depth, and even his acting(he starred in korean dramas and movies), but not for escape from the North. He was born in Seoul, South Korea. Although, like the movie said, there IS a refugee rapper, but he is not professional. Kang Chun-Hyuk(shown briefly after 4:50) had attended Korean Hip-Hop audition program, 'Show Me the Money 3', to shout out the horrific reality of North Korea, using Hip-Hop. Before the appearance in this program, he studied fine arts and drew some illustrations on books about the story about North Korea.

After his appearance, he was eliminated in competition, but YDG, one of the panel of the audition program, was impressed about Kang's story, and specially made a song called '못다한 이야기(Unfinished Story), but hardly recognized in public.

While these groups using this genre is new, art as a coping mechanism is not at all. It can be found everywhere from the works of Picasso ("Guernica," specifically) to the soul/gospel genre of music (which comes from american slaves using music for escapism), to japanese monster movies.

Yes, but let's remember that Rock Music help bring together de african american community and the white community in the 50`s, stand against war in the 60's and 70's was well represented the gay community with artists like freddie mercury, Rob Halford and david bowie and lou reed he was not gay but he bring to the from side the transexual comunty in the 80`s, started live aid for that same reason and World Peace in the 2000`s stand against the invasion of iraq. Rap Music is great but it never was the only. Rap is popular right now it seems and that success is deserved, But Rock Music is the most popular genre of music in the world today with virtually no time in the Radio. because there fans are loyal, i heard a lots of kind of music, EDM, some Pop,Jazz,Tango,Classical,Experimental,Rap,Blues,Folk And i love them all but i always return too Rock.
