this talk of online community and interaction reminds me many years ago you hosted a charity stream, where we had a marathon of all the friday the 13th movies. definitely one of my favourite memories from my entire time on the internet, so thank you sam for making such a wonderful community. glad you’re back to making videos again!

I absolutely love the quirky stories about interesting things but there is just something so wonderfully connected and comforting about this season and the focus on how we interact as humans that I just adore.

Lol!!! Oh man! I didn’t expect to see snippets of myself from the zoom calls in this vid… Yeah Baby!!! Love all of my Cosplay friends!!! I’m an essential worker so I never stopped working during lockdown. It was always a great end to a workday when I would turn on Candy and aanglecluka’s lives. Even more fun when I got the opportunity to be in them too

Man, Cosplay both as a hobby and a career is both cool to watch and terrifying to imagine. Like, imagine the costumes and the mess you'd have to keep track of. Doing it through a pandemic is cool! I had a friend in California who held his own virtual convention called Wannacon. Dunno if he's gunna do it again, but if he does, I hope you'd all come!

I am so glad that this weekend is Supanova (One of the major conventions in Australia.) I can't wait to adorn my Cancer Cell Cosplay from Hataraku Saibou and finally feel some form of genuine positivity. (Alongside purchasing commissions of my characters I've lovingly created.) Covid numbers in our state is contained due to our borders remaining very much shut... I am so bloody glad that our premier was firm on that. (the border opens up on December 17th. ) (to be totally honest? I don't care that much for Christmas.. My family have had their own kids and so we don't really get together.) Nothing will compare to in in person appearance at any convention.. at least that is the case for me personally. ^^

i like the fact there's a 'queer black metal artists" being a folder in the background. I am not a cosplayer but I have been a director/executive staff for several, and the community is pretty great (now) but it wasn't always so supportive like two decades ago people were all mean to each other 😂

While you can definitely draw a line from the costume parades at early American sci-fi conventions, I think the fact that everyone has adopted a Japanese term to refer to the hobby seems to indicate the connection actually comes from Japanese pop-culture conventions.

I’m sorry but that’s simply not true. Not everyone likes the term cosplay. In fact, a large number of folks I have met at cons, actually prefer the term ‘costuming’ over cosplay and have been expressing a desire to separate themselves from the Anime and Asian character costuming as a whole. To them it’s about expressing comic book, Sci-fi and fantasy characters, like it was in the 50s. Not some random Manga and Anime that only a small group will connect with. Sorry if that sounds harsh, by the way… it’s just what some think. Personally, I agree to an extent but only because I have less than zero interest in anime. Dress to be happy, though. If you enjoy costuming, do it! Just don’t assume that everyone calls it cosplay.

@@TiggiTheWillful Right. But since everyone in the video kept using the term "cosplay" that's what my comment is based on. For the people calling it "cosplay" their connection likely comes from Japanese fan culture, rather than traditional American fan culture.
