Regaining Bost Control Through the ECU

After the remap I decided to give the ECU controlled Vacuum solenoid another try to get the VNT working the way it should according to load rather than the full vacuum pulling the VNT hard on from the start. Have found the original boost anomaly is still there but greatly changed since the remap and switching off of the EGR, meaning the sudden drop comes back immediately, it doesn't hang on, still investigating what is causing this small anomaly . This vid shows the hiccup, but it does not effect the EGT the way it used to in the old days. On a recent 1200k trip the max EGT I saw was just over 400c. I have since permanently reconnected the Vac solenoid into the system but moved it very close to the VNT and Dawes (which I'm still using to control maximum boost) to shorten the tube runs, working well, smooth boost application and a slight improvement in eco due to the VNT dancing to the tune of load demand. @@cloaizap No, never did find a definitive answer. After monitoring it for a long time the only answer I could come up with was that the ECU was briefly looking for an input from another sensor, when it didn't receive it the boost returned to normal very quickly (I logged many hours of ECU data on my laptop). Since then some people I know have tried it on their DI's, some cannot make it work at all where others can and some have similar to me. I have dismantled and cleaned my original vacsol as well as trying another I got hold of, same thing so it is not in the vacsol, leaving only the ECU as the culprit. The CRD works much better at it and they have exactly the same vacsol. Another friend of mine with a CRD is running a bigger turbo (I have been running the same turbo, an Eclipse Turbo, for a little longer, more on that later) and he has total boost control from the ECU, no dawes/tillix/whatever and it works fine running at almost 30psi, this definitely doesn't work for all, so it shows how different our vehicles can be for unexplained reasons. Eventually I went right away from ECU control of boost, I found a company in Scotland that makes a device called a Digibooster, it controls boost throughout the range as well as controlling maximum boost, after fitting it and discussions with the company owner I sent it back for a modification to better suit our ZD30's (both DI and also CRD), Have been running this for nearly a year with great boost control via the 16 setting combinations available, I'm running with 27psi. I really must do another vid and put up some detail on both the new turbo and the Digibooster.

@@bigslaps_jason_d9880 I will get around to it, just need some enthusiasm to start the project. Now have around 10,000k on the turbo and much more on the Digibooster, I'm extremely happy with both. Great torque down low and good Hp to back that up, have trimmed boost from 27psi back to 25psi, even though there was Hp in it on the dyno the difference felt on the road is so small it is non existant.
