I am a fashion design instructor. RISD/FIT/Parsons are the top 3 for fashion in the USA. RISD is absolutely one of the top three for fashion design. The name alone opens doors. Parsons is very hard to predict. I have had students with lesser talents than you get in, so there's no rhyme or reason to it. My personal pick is FIT, even tho I am a RISD alum (And a designer for over 20 years). Most of my assistants came from FIT. FIT really prepares you to get a job in the industry. You chose well and your work is very good. Best of luck to you.
Not to get in a fight but as a student going through this process currently, I feel that RISD is definitely NOT in the top three schools for fashion design. When I visited there and spoke with an admissions adviser, I found that their facilities were lacking, although they had an exceptional textiles program. The (very nice) lady I spoke to flat out told me that the real strengths of their fashion program were in the fact that all of the students took a lot of interdisciplinary courses, and not in the actual program itself. I'm sure it's an amazing program for things like illustration or industrial design, but I did not think that their fashion design program lived up to the reputation.
You did really well for your first youtube video but I would like to give some suggestions. The first is be sparing with music. Music is great for those moments you are showing a visual but not great when you are talking, it adds needless competition. Let your audience hear you, let them be here for you. The second thing would be to add a little polish with editing. If you stumble on your words it is ok to cut that out. The same is true if you cough or make other noises that distract from your message. You are much better on the visual side of things with a nice, interesting background. Lighting is hard and will get better with practice.
This was SO helpful, these are literally all the schools I want to apply to, FIT is my number one, this video helped so much THANK YOU & congrats !! ❤️❤️
I feel you so much on the whole new youtuber thing😂 it's pretty awkward-feeling but fun too(??) love your personality though and subscribed in seconds!!
25:09 You should have done what I done .... I applied to The New School as an undecided Lang student and once I got accepted, I internally transferred to Parsons ..... And it worked .......
Lily Jack so in my portfolio development class for me specifically not to push down so hard on my she sketches, make sure that your designs are original, and to have a range of different pieces of art work to show the diversity in your artwork. And thank you so much and good luck to you!
Hello, I have a question, in FIT it is extremely necessary that you know how to sew everything? because I want to apply but sewing and I are not good friends, but obviously I will make the effort to learn everything necessary, I mean that once you get there you have to know how to sew very well ?. by the way I was very scared I thought I had to sew a pants and a jacket, but then I read '' draw ''. tons of congratulations, I hope to have the same luck as you! Blessings! hope you can answer soon :)
I just recently got accepted to FIT and when I first saw it in the mail mine had a faded light blue that said congratulations on the envelope but either way I didn’t even open yet and the first thing that came out of my mouth so excited, I GOT IN I GOT IN 😂😂 my parents were like you got in or congrats you got rejected? Because I didn’t even open the envelope yet lol overall my parents were happy, I got to get something my parents weren’t able to get and I’m just so happy ☺️😂
@@thecrustyonion5935 for me, I say going to FIT was the best decision I made, otherwise I would’ve told u I dropped out or something lol, I can’t say much for fashion design because I didn’t go through that major, but I hear fashion design students treat each other like family ^^ my advice to you is try to reach out as much as possible, it’s true that u might have a hard time making friends, but try to put yourself out there and you should be fine, if you do get in, make sure to not miss orientation, because they say that’s where you start meeting people and these could be the people that you’ll have connections for the rest of the time that you’re there. I say you can really be yourself at FIT cause even the students there don’t care what they wear on campus lol. But whatever you do, I wish you the best of luck in getting into the program! But if you do, let me know! Maybe we can meet some time! ^^
could you please tell me where to buy the appropriate background black paper / and which size ? I am also starting to create an admissions' portfolio for FIT. I am not sure about which is the appropriate drawing paper and background paper material though....
