RELEASE Upper Trapezius & Levator Scapulae Muscle Tension FOR GOOD

Stop stretching to release upper trapezius and levator scapulae muscle tension! Instead, we're going to actively retrain and repattern how to move without creating dysfunction and pain.
First, learn why the upper trap and levator scap get tight. You've probably guessed the root cause if you've followed the channel for a while. Coach E breaks down each step in the chain of compensations that eventually lead to pain.
Exercise 1: You'll need a foam roller. This exercise will help mobilize your spine, release any stiffness you've been carrying around, and restore extension.
Exercise 2: This solidifies the extension and mobilization from the first exercise. You'll activate some deep muscles that will help you effortlessly hold great posture all day. Remember to make the double chin and avoid hyper-extending the lumbar spine. Don't let your rib cage flare.
Exercise 3: You'll decrease tension by practicing activating the upper traps and then intentionally releasing them.
Exercise 4: Here, you'll restore the activation and strength of the serratus anterior, undoing the imbalance with the overworking upper trap and levator scap. You'll need a resistance band. If you don't have one, you can use a rope or a pair of pants. Focus on posterior tilt of the scapula.
If these exercises were helpful, click those like, subscribe, and notify buttons. That way, you'll get weekly updates with new content to help you move freely and without pain.

You keep on talking , you do a great job of explaining why and what to and not feel!! Very important to understand the physical mechanics that are responsible for why you have pain, weakness, etc. If you know why you are doing it, you’re more likely to be consistent with doing it 👍👍👍

You do not talk to much at all. The amount of information you provide and the chapters and the effort you put into these videos is price less. Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart. what? who possibly thinks you talk too much?? you talking is the entire reason I follow your videos and no one else. I LOVE your physiology approach!! I'm a medical doctor and am curious and want to know the science behind what's happening from a medical and scientific perspective. There are SO many physical therapists online, they have many of the same exercises as you do, but goodness gracious, you're in a league of your own - no one is as good as you in terms of a medical and physiology perspective. Love it. And love the articles you cite - I've looked up several of them and talked about them to a few of my patients. If you would make any change, I vote for more physiology, more data, more science!!

Anecdotally there could also be a correlation to elevated stress/distress/anxiety levels. Itself could also be related to holding the sit desk posture for long hours (having a lot of work to get through). IMO also worth checking in on one’s emotional state (we experience our emotions physiologically, it’s not just an abstract thought) and broader wellbeing

I, for one, understand the relevance of your "Too much talking." As practitioners, understanding the why and the science behind a movement helps us become better at not only what we do but why the dysfunction happened in the first place. Thank you for your great videos!

What has helped you the most to make you this knowledgeable with targeted interventions like these? I'm a PT with OCS and am looking to further build my arsenal. I've watched a bunch of your videos and smile because I agree with you! I am also grateful because I am learning advanced therEx/NM re-ed techniques from you! Great work👍👍

This is a difficult question to answer. Essentially: 1. A strong background in anatomy, physics, biomechanics and physiology 2. Real world experience in both rehab and performance (elite athlete S&C) 3. Constant learning and experimentation on myself and others 4. Time to think about problems and come up with solutions vs. blindly accept the standard approach Not sure if that's helpful, but it's what I think is the truth.
