Remarkable ABANDONED 1970s Ranch Style House that You'll Like!!

Mid Century Modern Lunacy
In this explore, we have a great mid century ranch style home that was built in 1970. From the outside it looked to be in really rough shape with most of the roof missing its tiles, some of the windows had also been removed.
Once inside we see that the house looked much the same as when it was built 50 odd years ago! With vintage wallpaper, a yellow kitchen counter and a very eclectic looking basement...everything you would expect to see in a high end house from the era. The home had lots of wood details, large windows and even a partially enclosed porch area that had been turned into a sunroom.
In the basement there were even some cartoon characters somewhat crudely drawn onto the walls, and the home is rumored to have once been owned by an animator that had worked for Disney and Hanna-Barbera. I was unable to confirm this, however the drawings in the basement did play into the story. The owner died in 2018 and the home has sat abandoned ever since!
This house a was a joy to explore and I am sure that you will like it as much as I did!

Oh wow, the stairway from the garage directly to the basement is brilliant. I’ve never seen that before. If we ever build another house, that will definitely be a feature. You find the coolest places for us to visit!

The interior of this house is dynamite! The brick and wood give the home a cozy warmth that more modern houses just don't have. The decorating style brings you back in time and the funky wallpaper was a great feature. Thanks for sharing this one. We really enjoyed it!! 😊

James what an awesome MCM house, all that wallpaper and the angles and how about that flooring wow looks so much like the '70s, wow wouldn't it be so cool to see this beauty in its prime. I do enjoy having a walk through you give us all, thanks a bunch!

I love this! Seeing lots of things that are 60's to me! My folks built a house in 60's and the flooring, built-in cabinetry the flocked wallpaper, louvered doors and light fixtures all are very reminiscent! Sure interesting stuff though and definitely 60's style. Wall board, built in cabs, flooring! Love that wood flooring too! Seems like such a waste though!

When I was editing the footage, I was thinking 60s too but it turns out it was built in 1970. Maybe there was a slow transition between the two decades. Thank you very much for your comment!!

That house gives off a 60’s vibe. The brown and orange striped wallpaper looks like what you’d find in a fast food restaurant. The accordion shower door was something I’ve never seen before. It looks like it would be a pain in the butt to open and close. The hardwood floors still look great. The owners obviously lied vibrant colors. That’s a big house, it just went on forever and they utilized every square inch of it. Another great explore James.

Most definitely a very cool house. Almost a wallpaper museum of sorts. The stripes inside the front door a jolt to the eyes. So many different examples of stripes and then shiny paper although that bedroom with the square pattern and faces would have creeped me out a bit. The patterned panels in one basement room something I’ve never seen before. Also lots of interesting floor tiles. The blue and white tiles in one bathroom were my favorite. So many built ins. Cool bar area and interesting characters painted on basement walls. Certainly no “boring” white walls for these folks. If walls could talk I imagine they would tell of interesting individuals inhabiting this space. Loved this cool exploration James, thanks for sharing!

Liked the built in dresser. The accordion style shower curtain was definitely different. Definitely hate the striped wallpaper! Loved the giant fireplace. I liked the blue wallpaper but not with the fireplace. I love the sunroom addition and all the large windows! I’m a natural light lover! The built in cabinetry is awesome! The kitchen pass through was a great feature. Nice size freezer! The basement was huge. The hotel bench was cool, great storage item. Definitely unique to have a door into the basement directly from the garage, unless the basement was used as an “apartment”. The basement tiles were fab. Loved the impromptu artwork and the scenic paneling! Been a while since I’ve seen a Dixie cup dispenser. Cute bathroom wallpaper. The artistic wallpaper was too much for the room… just needed to be an accent wall. Overall great place!

This house did turn out to be good 👍. The basement area was the real deal wasn't it, just a walk back in time. At first I thought it was just going to be ok but it was really good. You never know the treasures until you go inside a house and explore everything ❤😊. Huge living areas for many people in that house. I liked it. Thanks again for your videos.❤

This makes me think of a big party house. I can imagine myself back in high school in the 80's going to parties there. 😂 It's huge. I would have loved to see it furnished and not destroyed. The basement is perfect for hide and go seek!! 😮

I wonder if wallpaper will ever come back on trend. I love it, but prefer to play it safe in my home with white walls and bright accent colors in furniture and furnishings. However, I really do appreciate the myriad wallpaper colors and patterns. Thanks James.

Well for resale, you really can't go wrong with white walls but you should be able to enjoy your house as well. I don't see any reason not to decorate it the way you want, unless you plan on selling it soon. Thank you very much for your comment!!
