The clamp idea was a genius at work perfect also I found a ratchet strap used commonly for tying down motorcycles and cargo wrap that around the pulley and put the other hook on something sturdy and that works also I did two water pumps on both my pickups used your clamp idea and use the ratchet strap and they both work like a charm

I was able to do thing with a clamp on the alternator belt and pulley (easy to get to). and hitting my wrench with a Rubber mallet.. seems much safer.. i used the rental wrench set so i didn't want to scar it up. rubber mallet worked fine for me
