Hey guys! I imagine you are here to see the experience of my border run. I made this video because I personally couldn't find one like this, that shows exactly how it works, so my hopes are to show you exactly what I experienced, and share the information I have gathered to do this visa renewal. This was at the Peñas Blancas border, so any other one may be different.
What you need to enter Nicaragua:
Fill out the Formulario ahead of time: solicitudes.migob.gob.ni
Have your proof of Vaccination OR negative PCR results
Passport of course
In USD $1, $13, $1, $3. ( always bring extra just in case, and don't assume they will have change, I may have been lucky)
Note: BEFORE entering the entrance side of Nicaragua, a few steps before the front doors, there is a part of the building with large windows, go there and show them your Covid Docs, they will give you a ticket, otherwise migration will send you back to get it.
Don't be nervous, and be HONEST! There is no legal obligation to be inside or outside of either country for any amount of time.
Disclaimer: I am here just showing my experience, I am not going to guarantee that everyone will have the same experience, and of course, always keep yourself updated as time goes on as rules may change at any time.
To Enter Costa Rica as always:
An onward ticket or a ticket showing that you will leave the country within 89 days.

Short and sweet video! I was a little curious as to how the border crossing process works, and this video gave a nice synopsis of it; glad to hear things went smooth sailing! I don't have anything really else to add but great video! Hope you have a happy Thanksgiving by the way :) Timestamp comments: 2:21 Kind of interesting to see that you have to walk a bit to enter Nicaragua; it makes sense to see why you would see all of those semis because those semis are carrying exported products and need to get verified since they are coming from a different country I'm assuming 3:22 - 3:23 Holy hell that loud honk! JUMP SCARE lol. Interesting that you weren't flinched by that haha! 6:40 - 6:48 Nice to hear that the process was smooth sailing. 7:20 - 7:26 Que genial! Por eso es totalmente bien cuándo intentas hablar otra lengua; no es necesario para hablar perfectamente porque los nativos lo aprecian :) 8:00 - 8:37 Yeah sounds similar to when you enter through customs at the SJO or LIB airports. Again nice to hear that things went smooth; border crossings sometimes can be stressful and nerve wracking but sometimes all it takes is to have nice, patient, and understanding staff! MyTanFeet is such a good resource and that's good you got that info from them; about the RU-vidr thing; I think that might be able to be officially accepted in terms of border crossings sometime in the near future as there are more content creators out there and they do this for a living and it's a legit source of income.

Yeah! I figured it would be helpful and straight to the point for the people looking for this video instead of having to watch the whole Guanacaste vlog haha. I was very glad it went well. The walk to get the Nicaragua side is pretty quick, just maybe wouldn't; want to do it alone after dark lol. And yes! It probably takes a long while for those trucks to get through, weighed, reviewed, who knows what more! Lmao even during editing the honk didn't phase me, maybe I'm partially deaf 😶‍🌫️ I hope RU-vid becomes a job on the list at somepoint, but I guess it's not the end of world to say something else lol, just hard to be as honest as possible when they don't give the option 🤣 Thanks for enjoying Tony!! Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm really glad everything went nice and smooth for you! 👍 I was really impressed by how green the natural surroundings were and how big, modern, and clean the facilities looked! Now, although Nicaragua is considered the safest country in Latin America, safer than CR, there are exceptions to the rule wherever you go! So, with regards to catcalls, even if it's hot outside, try to wear lose, darker pants or jeans, tucked in shirts, or dresses below your knees. Lose hair, tan shirts, and khaki shorts somehow attract too much attention in Nicaragua. Now, when not going out for a special occasion, adult Nicaraguan women tend to be subdued and put their hair in a bun or wear ponytails and little make up. Last but not least, it's fine to smile to other ladies while riding the bus, or going to the grocery store, but don't smile while walking alone on a deserted road or street! I mean, most Nicaraguans would definitely understand that you're a tourist and try to be helpful but you should try to attract less attention to stay safe! Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year! 🇳🇮🎉🎇

Thank you! And yes, I love that the facilities are clean and modern, it helps to make the whole process just that much easier mentally, in a way. Thanks for the extra tips! Hopefully everyone can find them helpful 🤗

It's just in general a bad experience and you have to stay over night (at the least) nowadays. You used to be able to go and shop for 3 hours and then leave, but when the borders opened again from the pandemic the Panama migration police at the land border (Paso canoas) decided to enforce rules that aren't legally correct and create numerous entry requirements, and above this they treat you like you are criminal for doing something totally normal. Honestly, the drive to and from Nicaragua, and literally entering and exiting all at once is way more worth it.

@Emma in Costa Rica This has been our experience too, the first time one night was enough, the next they wanted 3 and made us buy new non-refundable bus tickets. The last we stayed more than a week and brought a car, and the same lady (manager? On a Sunday) was hostile even then acting like we were doing something wrong. It's a spot we know, but really considering going up to Nicaragua instead. Do they require the same sort of paperwork, like a return ticket etc (Nica Side), even though they acknowledge you're leaving immediately? Last question, where do you park before walking up to the border?
