What is the grey sealant you used to re-attach them to the deck please?

The Grey stuff is Butyl (bought in form of a tape form). As you said, it serves only as sealant against water, it has no gluing function, for keeping it attached are the bolts

Can the clutch handle replacement be done without removing the entire clutch from the deck?

I don't think that would be practical, because it needs to be opened up sideways and the bottom of the housing is tight between teh deck and the "base plate"

I have the same clutch with same broken handle. Where did you buy the handle from? I’ve been looking everywhere online and they seem to be discontinued. I guess I might end up changing the unit to the newer model.

I've been trying to find the replacement handle as well and can't find any. I think they have been discontinued. Looking to so the same. Replace with a new unit. Not happy about it, but no choice.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. I found them for sale still here in the Netherlands a couple years ago. The part is known as SA16. However, I looking it up now, it seems indeed that production has stopped, so I hope you'll be able to find some in stock somewhere.

Some people clean out the holes with a bent nail on a drill and then fill with epoxy. Is that something that is necessary?

Good question, I don't know about this technique, but it sounds reasonable, depending on the layers of your deck and the quality thereof. I have seen people drilling a larger hole, filling it solid with epoxy and drill through that again. That way you have a completely watertight hole. In my case I used the Butyl to keep water out from above only. Your goal should be to create a good watertight repair, cleaning out the holes with a nail on a drill could be a good way to get all old material out and start clean, if it is necessary depends on your specific situation

Hi, what kind of past do you use for covering the holes? We have exactly the same issue (one handle is broken) on our sailboat. And what kind of sanding paper do you use? Thx!

The sealant is Butyl tape, it remains pliable and is no adhesive, which is great if you want to take it off again. I used 80 grit and 150 grid sandpaper. Good luck with your repair job :)

When I last replied, I think I missed the actual thing you were referring to, and that was the paste, not the butyl. That was Wilsor Epoxy putty (plamuur in Dutch)

Excellent! Butyltape is the way to go!
