Great job. I watched several other videos and started putting together my opener. Took a break and found this. It would have saved me much stress if I could have watched this first. My 2nd half will go much smoother after watching this. My newest Genie opener comes with a wi-fi controller built in. I am surprised yours didn't come with it. Thanks again
I took down my old antique garage door opener yesterday. Super heavy compared to the new door opener. The new one is almost completely silent. Not to mention the range is double or triple to the old one when opening the door. Very happy with my new Genie door opener.

Greetings, I cleaned sensors, bought two new different remotes, erased all memory... indoor button works fine all the time. Both new remotes must be pressed several times or it works on the first time and then not. Wires seem to be fine even when I wiggle them sensors do not flicker. How can I trouble shoot the geniue motor? Installed 2004. Thank you.
The one thing Genie could improve on is the wire they give you. The wire doesn't have a good coding on it to define which is positive, and which is negative. I could barely tell that one wire had what looked like writing on it, not really a black line of any sort. But I managed to get it all working.
Great video. I have a similar vintage Genie and all of a sudden the wireless remote keypad stopped working. I purchased a new Chamberlain (klik2u-p2) model keypad but apparently to program it the opener must have a Learn Button. The keypad that stopped working was a klik2u model. Any idea how to program the keypad without a Learn button? Do I need a dip switch on the keypad?
No, i dont think you can do it without a learn button. I would suggest the WIFI garage door opener that I mentioned in the video. You control it with your phone and will work on a vintage opener.
They do make screw drive, but if you are replacing the unit I would not replace with another screw drive. They are MUCH louder than a belt drive. It is not even close
I have a Genie screw drive from '94 so it's been working for 30 years. It's pretty hard to adapt it to a smart home though so considering replacing it . . . even though it still works pretty much like new. Have to wonder if the new belt system is going to last 30-40 years like the screw drive! Imagine that a long steel screw is far more expensive to make and that's the reason they are trying to push the belts. The new ones are much quieter yes but believe me, it's not the screw that is making all the noise, it's the motor and its gears! Also, the noise is a nice indicator that my wife is home, her car is way too quiet. Now you need an app to alert you that someone opened the door! Progress? Hmm.
Eric, you can keep the old screw drive opener and adapt it to a smart home device. I have another video where I show how to turn even a very old opener into a smart opener for $20. It syncs with the smart life app. I get notifications every time the garage door opens and closes. So, that is also a way to know that your wife is home.
