Replace Kitchen Sink Water Supply Lines

Step by step instruction on how to change leaky kitchen sink water supply hoses. Includes how to reach the water supply line nuts under the sink faucet.
Replacing a leaking kitchen sink flexible water supply line does not require a high level of skill. You may need to use a basin wrench to disconnect the braided water supply line from the base of the kitchen faucet. If the connector at the supply line is plastic, you can make your own basin wrench to loosen the plastic nut.

VERY HELPFUL. I was wondering if you used the basin wrench to remove the water supply line from the faucet (and likewise, to tighten them). No way you will ever get an open end wrench or slip joint pliers up behind the sink basin
@Know-How-Now

Thanks for taking the time to watch the video and write a comment, Matt. You are correct, I did use a basin wrench. You may already know this, if you have a rusty/stuck nut/connector, spray it with PB Blaster penetrating oil. Gently tap the stuck part, wait a hour or better yet, overnight. Then try again. I have I video that shows how to use a basin wrench. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gwM9Sk3E_Ok.html

what if the nut keeps spinning and will not come off? That is by issue ad i can't find anywhere on how to get it off
@Know-How-Now
@Know-How-Now 4 года назад
If you have the nut fully loosened, it could be stuck, try giving the hose a gentle tug to break it free. The other possibility is that the threads are damaged. Try pulling the nut away from the connection while turning it.

are these fittings intended to be connected directly to the flex line ? or do they need a little teflon tape or plumbers paste on the thread ? ?
@Know-How-Now
@Know-How-Now 10 месяцев назад
Both ends of the supply lines have a rubber gasket that will make a seal when tightened. No need for paste or tape.

What oil penetrant would you suggest? We're staying in an apartment so they were rusty. We're having a hard time loosening it up. Thanks!
@Know-How-Now
@Know-How-Now 4 года назад
I use PB Blaster brand penetrating oil. It's commonly found at the big box hardware stores where I live. It has a very strong odor, open windows and use a fan to ventilate your apartment or try to contain the area with plastic. I'd think breathing the fumes is not healthy.

Question: Does wall mounted faucets have these supply lines? We have a line or pipe leaking water down to the basement from what seems to be something inside the wall connected to the faucet. It started very soon after I installed a new faucet after our old one stopped working due to a bad cartridge (I was not able to find a replacement because of it's age).

Without seeing what you have, it's hard to give an accurate answer. Check out this video, did you have a threaded connection like this one? If yes, did you seal the threads with pipe dope or plumbers tape? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BDm6oFUuJJA.html

How often should the water hoses be replaced? I use the plastic kind.
@Know-How-Now
@Know-How-Now 5 лет назад
The plastic will likely hold up longer than the rubber seals on each end of the hose. I put the replacement date on the hose (Sharpie or a tag). It's hard to say how long the rubber will last, it depends on your water and the location of the hose. Heat would degrade the rubber seals more quickly. If you don't disturb the connection it will likely last at least 10-15 years.

It would be very time consuming and hard to try to write back and forth to you and give you an accurate answer on something I can't see. I'd suggest searching "fix leaking kitchen sink sprayer". You'll get video/pictures and how to fix it.

If I understand your question, you are asking if you can repair the flexible water supply line. I've never tried to repair the ends on a supply line hose. It would be hard to find the correct rubber washers for the ends. I recommend replacing the flexible water supply lines, they are not super expensive.
@williampennjr.4448

I just installed new supply lines for my kitchen just a few months ago but every few weeks they come loose and start leaking pretty bad. How do I tighten them so they dont come loose again? I've been told not to tighten them too much or that could cause damage.
@Know-How-Now
@Know-How-Now 3 года назад
You should tighten the supply line tight enough to compress the rubber washer so it makes a seal. For most people you just need to use your hands to tighten. I sometimes use a wrench for the last 1/4-1/2 turn, but I am female and don't have enough strength to fully tighten. If you make it too tight, you risk breaking the plastic nut.
@williampennjr.4448
@williampennjr.4448 3 года назад
@@Know-How-Now I do that but I still keeps coming loose every few days. The nut isn't plastic. I think its aluminum or steal, and the line is brass.
@Know-How-Now
@Know-How-Now 3 года назад
You might try buying a tube of Loctite Blue (breaks away with tools) thread locker and putting a drop or two on the threads. That should stop it from loosening.
@williampennjr.4448

@Know-How-Now
@Know-How-Now 4 года назад
Hi John, I'm not clear on your question. Are you saying that you replaced the supply lines and you have a leak somewhere else? I don't know what you mean by plastic connector.
@mr.gameandteach7197
@mr.gameandteach7197 4 года назад
@@Know-How-Now the set up under my kitchen sink has the hot water valve. I have plastic piping now copper or metal. Then above that is a plastic connector that has grooves for the hose to connect to. The water leak is coming from that and its heavy. Enough to rot out the floor. I shut the valve off but when I tried to remove the hose from the connector part of the connector broke off with the hose. I'm beginning to think this job may be better serviced by a plumber.

@Know-How-Now

You should not have to use plumbers tape on the threads. The rubber gasket on the ends of the supply line will make a good seal. Don't make the connections supper tight, just tight enough to compress the rubber gaskets.

I've found my cold water supply line to be wet. After watching this video it seems like the supply line washer is worn out causing some leaking. We just had our water filters changed out and I'm trying to prevent my Dad from calling the technicians who changed the filter. He thinks that they caused the leak even when I've told him that I can feel water on the cold water supply line.
@Know-How-Now
@Know-How-Now 4 года назад
A worn out washer on the end of the supply line could cause the leak. Maybe they bumped/disturbed the connection, causing the failing washer to leak. I always date the supply lines so I have some idea of how long they have been in place.
