I just replace the whole alternator. I just replaced mine about two days ago, First time I paid $139, then after is free replacement for life. I normally get a least 5+ years on those aftermarket Alternators. I you want a new one from Toyota, they still sell them, about $300. One thing I keep spare in the truck is the fusible link. That thing go bad and you will definitely will be towed home.

Is the Alternator on the Petrol and Diesel 1HZ motor the same?

I couldn't even get the entire alternator unit in my country NIGERIA. I had to purchase a tundra alternator and build a bracket. My oem alternator was really stressed out especially with the ac on and on high beams. Voltage goes as low as 12.2, with the tundra I never get below 13.6 and on high loads it steps up to 14.1 to 14.4v. I had to desmog to fit the alternator and got a new belt.
