Here's a video of Tim replacing the front yoke bearings on our Scag Cheetah. The yoke was damaged and replaced last year in a rather fast fashion & the damaged bearings were never replaced at the time of the yoke replacement. So in this video we go over how to do that, what we do for our spring and fall equipment maintenance, like oil changes, blades, spark plugs etc. Daniel stops in for some "garage time" with Daddy. Tim discusses some of the stresses of the job that he's chosen as his profession, along with whatever else happens to be on his mind during the duration of the video.
As always tank you for watching. If you have any suggestions for us please comment on the videos. Thank you!

As much as you'd like to have every tool for every unique job you have its not always possible, nice job making it work!

Yes, but we’re slowly building our tool assortment up

If that nut is the same size as the spindle nut, I'm golden. I bought the Scag socket and bearing tool so I can do spindle rebuilds more efficiently. Pricey but they speed up the job, especially installing bearings and seals.

Hey Greg, I don’t remember what size the nut was. I will say if you’re doing it all the time or have a bunch of Scags that it makes sense to buy the right tools. We only had one and had to get it back together to keep going right away, which is why we customized our channel lock pliers.

The 1.5 inch thin wall socket can be purchased at Lowe’s. For way cheaper than the socket Scag wants $45 for.

Thanks for the info. When I butchered the set of channel locks it was because we had to be back in business right away, a trip to Lowes is 35 minutes 1 way. So choices had to be made, haha.

A 1-1/2 non impact socket will fit on that 1-inch nut, at least my 12pt non-deep craftsman did. I couldn't find any torque specs, so i set it to around 10 ft lbs. they will vary, just make sure there's no slop. when the mower is lifted on a jack, after you put grease in it give it a good spin, and it should make about 2 revolutions. I just did this yesterday on a scag patriot. almost every scag uses the same yoke/caster nut.

Hey thanks for the Info. My non impact socket didn't fit, otherwise I would have used that one as we have a set that goes up to 2".

@@morejelloplease Scag makes the Socket for $45 or so. Just not worth it to me to buy it. Of course if I hadn't already sacrificed the channel lock pliers I would have....Unfortunately it was a bit of a "field fix" when we worked on it last summer and had a deadline to get back mowing, so the pliers had to be sacrificed.

@Elmendorf Acres yeah I saw the scag socket, I still don't know if it's 1 7/16 or 1 1/2. Sockets are all different. I'm servicing my friends scag because the new hustler I just bought doesnt cut for crap. I just posted a hustler vs scag video. See if you think that's typical hustler cut quality lol
@ElmendorfAcres
@ElmendorfAcres Год назад
@@morejelloplease I run Exmark and Scag. I prefer the Exmark quality of cut over that of the Scag. When mowing the exmark blows clippings 3 full rows if not 4, the scag blows clippings 2 rows. I also have found the exmark stripes better, and has a much better deck vacuum, which is what helps with those "stragglers" that are in your comparison video. But the other thing to keep in mind, these mowers are made to cut full lawns, thats part of what helps the vacuum work correctly. So if you have a lawn that has very thin or spotty dead areas, non of the mowers do great....
