In the old days, I shipped all over the globe and the items were big and small. I started in the era of mailed payments and optional photos. USPS had to change how they charged for size and weight, but it did kill the really fun sales. I shipped a Stetson hat in original box to Ireland, and a 50s fireman's helmet to Mexico. That will never happen again. Promoted blackmail was one reason I quit selling. Just as well at this point medically, but I do miss the fun.

Oh yes, I remember getting checks in the mail. We all signed up to PayPal with a leap of faith. Digital cameras were so expensive that most of us scanned the item.

I package things in plastic bins too, especially when I have to ship a large framed picture or painting. The last time I had to purchase a cardboard picture box, it cost me $36, while I can get an underbed sized bin, brand new for $10 at the dollar store. If I am selling a picture worth over $200, I am willing to spend the money plus, it is much stronger and safer, so they are great for those oval framed pictures with the bubble glass. It also saves time and frustration.

The problem is that people took advantage of it. Amazon still does, because they pay a fixed shipping price no matter the size of the parcel. So the box is fifty times the size of the item.

I wonder how many full time resellers whom have broadcasted their secrets, buying locations, and buying strategies on you tube… what sells, what doesn’t, where to buy..for the small amount these companies pay you per view on You Tube.. subscribers/ likes and what not …I wonder how many Now wish they HAD NOT given away so much information. Kind of cutting their own profits in a way…Now, reselling has become so prominent, easy, and profitable that it seems that everyone is doing it now! you guys have created unnecessary competition for yourselves…Goodwill has raised their prices dramatically, garage sales, estate sales and flea markets in your area have become competitive… with other you tubers, and resellers…. Well …I am not knocking it, I’ve learned a lot… ( and I’m not in your area.. I’m way south) I just wonder if it’s a should’ve/ could’ve/would’ve moment ?? ❤❤❤ Best to ya! 😊

I have been saying this since mid last year. No youtubers want to acknowledge it because their in denial and its all become part of their bottom line. This video as of this comment has been watched 13k times which means that 13k people now know these items sell. Instant competition is created, which means as more of the same item is being posted the sell through rate is affected each and every time. Competition lowers prices and creating potentially such a low sell through rate due to the increase of the same items being sold that it is no longer desirable to sell. Plus- People selling at garage sales, estate sales, thrift stores, everywhere are watching too. Every other garage sale I go to now refers to Ebay prices. This is why sales suck for so many. Its not the economy its that people now know and what in on it.

6:53 'Ground Advantage' is the best thing the USPS has done in a long time. Sadly, eBay claims it as their idea. Even if it was eBay's idea, it would be the best one since PayPal (19 yrs. as a reseller here) but the frustration I've had the past few years makes me appreciate the newer platforms mentioned on your channels. Started reselling 2 months ago, just made it firmly into the profit after all sourcing and packaging materials total cost with a large listed/unlisted inventory finally got a trash to cash bag with some stickers, excited for it to show up so I can forget to bring it to the sale with the most stuff like you. I heard something the other day about the priority boxes. Don't wrap them in brown paper, put them in a bag to use them. USPS is checking if the size matches their box size and it's wrapped in brown paper. People have been caught already and you get banned from shipping.

Great thing about books and book sets is, you can sometimes times find them for free on Facebook etc… I found a free encyclopedia set a while back and it sold for $125… $0 into $110 or so after fees is a great ROI

I see your point, but I think we have to look at education on an international level. Many if not most countries have a much more affordable education system than we do. In some countries it is even free, and it is a good education. If our kids and grandkids are going to compete for the best jobs, they have to get an education that they can afford. Right now, very bright kids from low-income families find that college is out of their reach. We are supposed to be the greatest country in the world, but when we put our statistics up against the world, we are not in many ways, and we need to change that.

I don't know what happened, but I sold a lamp shipping with UPS. It was going to cost $42, I contacted the buyer and said it was a mistake. I shipped it USPS Ground Advantage for $17.00.

Love eBay lens but sometimes you have to be careful when using it. For listed items it usually works 100% but when you swipe to solds a totally different item comes up. I’m not sure if this affects your potential listing and where it ends up.

Sales have really started picking up for me on ebay. I will say I am posting some mid range things (40.00 to 200.00). I agree we all have to change things as we go to continue sales. I have thought about doing Whatnot again. My issue is the time it takes me. I sold video games on there. I would sell about 200 or so cheap games and come out with about 200 bucks in my pocket. It took me about 2 hours for show and about hour maybe more to pack it. To lets say 3 hours. I would rather lot it up in a large lot on the bay and sell for 79.99 plus shipping. Yeah I lose 130 bucks compared to live but I also gain my 3 hours back.. I think I need to look at things and maybe try to stream line it more. Thanks for the awesome video. You could do a secret podcast of your own and I would listen!

Do you know if sellers on eBay will receive a 1099 for $600 plus in sales for 2024? I was on my seller hub page, looking at monthly statements and under the 1099-K it states $600 is the baseline to receive one.

The worst change in NJ is the sources re-sellers are trying to buy from. When the minimum wage increased here, the prices at thrift shops escalated to the point where they are ridiculous. I do walk around and try to buy most things by the color of the day which gives you 50 percent off. Sr. day isn't much help for me at 15%. Goodwill never gives you anything for donating which I've been doing often for the past4 years. I can't hoard things because I'm re-selling out of a small bedroom in my apartment.

The senior discount (*cough*) here is 10%. In essence it covers the sales tax. All we get is junk for the most part, and if you're not there when they roll bins you get zip. The bins total what one cart used to be. Maybe.

Automated item and identification drives prices down and removes skill from the equation. Card scanning hardware is decimating the value of low to mid end cards as now 100 percent of the ones with value are identified instead of 10-30 percent like it used to be.

It took me a few videos to figure out how to watch you. lol Anyway, change is inevitable, but it doesn’t have to go so fast. If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. Having said that, if you can tweak it to accommodate your current sellers, I say tweak on! eBay doesn’t need new sellers, and could probably benefit from losing some of the unsavory sort. My opinion, of course.

I am one that has been turned off with the whole $600 income, must turn in a 1099 form. I rarely sale, but adding more complications to the whole tax process, no thanks. Almost like being dinged for trying to make more money, when gvt takes plenty out of my check. I will do what I can though to help increase the income.

Hello. agree to disagree on your comment regarding competition is good for resellers. When competition is high prices go down on potentially valuable items that could sell at a higher price point if it weren't for all the resellers selling the exact item. I know, I've had that happen. Competition can be good but there are limits.

I gave up on the USPS for shipping. I pay the $.50-1.50 more to just ship Fedex or UPS. I also price shop the shipping on other sites vs eBay. I have found several times where I can save a few bucks not using ebay shipping.

@@JohnnyLightningV10 I have been selling with freight on eBay since 2005 and Amazon since 2015. I get a few freight returns but it is very rare since the customer has to pay hundreds of dollars to return it. I charge for freight shipping that I also don't refund. The stuff I send freight is usually brand new product. I do sell some used business industrial stuff.

Say you are at the grocery store and buy a product that you wanted open it and see a message that states how much more you paid for it because the store made more money because of shipping arrangements it has with the USPS or any other delivery company WHY would the store ( ebay ) do this ?? Does it help sales ?? Does it increase profits for the store ( ebay ) ? Doesn't this practice leave a bad taste n both the sellers and buyers mouth ?? So you tell a friend about your experience and your friend tells you about a store that doesn't do that , although they are a bit more $$ Would you be inclined to shop at your friends store ?? eBay has hit their mark on this protocol , LETS CHASE AWAY BUSlNESS !!

my curiosity is that you do not promote, you are the only content creator on youtube that i have found that does not promote yet you have phenomenal sales. Your items are good as you have honed a skill for picking over the years and this is in no way meant to be a negative comment but some of the categories' that you sell in many others claim are dead in the water and are having to promote at ridiculous percentages to get sales. I know for a fact from my first experience on Mecari that they pushed my very first item i listed to sell in two hours as it was a Harley tshirt and this is a very crowded market. It was obvious to me that Mecari was trying to set the hook. Ive also had interactions with eBay customer service over a problem and immediately after giving the Rep a good review , instant sales occurred !

My uncle is a part time seller and sells 10-15k a month and doesn't promote anything. It is not needed in my opinoin. I realize I am in the minority in this opinion.

AI.... \??? I am educated and I find it a problem. I have to read it. I find errors from my own knowledge. Then I have to research if AI is correct. Then anybody who uses AI I have to worry that the info they give me via using AI, if its correct. Thus making me have to question the accuracy of it. Maybe it will get better but right now it's more work.

Do you think what not is a good way to spend your time ? Seems if you sell a bunch of low priced items and have to pack and ship all these low price items i would like to see a study on time spent selling packing and shipping all these lower priced items and how much you are making per hour ?? I know its a great way to get rid of lower priced items but are you making enough money for your time spent ?

For most people it is better to be a selective picker and not buy low end. But some folks buy in bulk and need outlets to sell it off. So my answer is yes it is worth it if the numbers add up but it is very different for different individuals.
