This is the way I see it. It's pointless to give a game a 18+ rating and then censor parts of it anyway.

They removed Mercenaries and Assigment Ada because is killing without context? Shouldnt they removed the multiplayer mode in every game then?

So the animation where Leon is decapitated is censored, but what about the one where he's ripped in half and the monster actually holds up his legs and dangles them in front of him as the screen fades? I mean, that one's far more gruesome when it comes to it.

The uncensored version is an absolute classic. In Germany we gladly had our "sources" to get uncensored games

you got the thing about the german censoreship wrong, Ive read about this many times. It was just that the German tester felt like they had to test everything that was in the game. Capcom gave them a test version that didnt include those modes. Hence those modes were not included in the final release of the German version. Such a stupid reason, but Capcom is to blame for that one.

i dont remember ashly's breast bouncing at all on the game cube and thats what i played it in until the 369 version came out

Just a little correction. Resident Evil Remake was released before RE4, and it did had breast physics.

The PS2 version had reduced breast physics because Capcom had to make a ton of graphical sacrifices to make the game run on the PS2, greatly reducing model fidelity etc.

There was another reason regarding Assignment Ada and Mercenaries. When you release a game in Germany, it has to be given a rating. However, Ada and Mercenaries were missing from the content that went through the rating system. So they removed those modes very shortly before release, because it wouldn't have gotten a rating otherwise (which means, not allowed to openly sell and advert). The exact opposite happened with Resident Evil Zero, which was, unlike the REmake, rated 16 and up, which surprised everyone so much, that Capcom actually slapped a warning on the box.

The Japanese censorship list needs to be updated or removed because it's obvious it doesn't affect all games.

This stuff get's censored in Japan... then why are there so many really edgy, dark and gruesome Animes out there? Worse then even RE4 or even 7 at the moment?

I remember that the European version on the Gamecube was balanced. The earlier US version had way too much ammo lying around, making it more actionshooter instead of survival horror. Later versions were based on the European version, but with less graphic effects (PS2), or added motion control (Wii). Sad to learn they removed some boob physics along with the ammo..

The ps2 removal was probably just due to ps2s hardware limits. It was a less powerful console and they had a rough time bringing re4 over o it. I could see breast physics being cut to make the game run better.

Well there are many "Urban Legends" here in Germany why both modes were cut from our version. The most common theory is this: Mercenaries was cut due to reasons explained in the Video. As far as I remember, the Mercenaries Mode was cut due to the same reasons in the heavily edited version of Resident Evil 3. So what happened to Assignment Ada? The reasons is, they simply forgot to hand this Mode over the USK for rating it after the Classification was refused for giving an age rating. It was Capcom quite to expensive to actually Re-Rate the Game till now. Yes, years later, the Mercenaries Mode wasn't a problem in Resident Evil 5 or another Resident Evil after 4. There wasn't even a problem with the Standalone Mercenaries Games for the 3DS. So, yeah, killing for Money in Videogames isn't a problem in Germany anymore and Assignment Ada was cut back in the days because bot Partys, the USK and Capcom acted plain stupid. And we have to thank the japanese CERO. Because of them and the worldwide Online Mode, since Resident Evil 5, almost everything what once was gory in Resident Evil was removed. The whole Gore was simply toned down and that's why Games like the Revelations Series only received a USK 16 rating here in Germany.

Thank God that censorship was looked down upon and you know changed for future release if somebody just censored the entire dialogue of a game because they thought it was sexist even though if anything it’s the opposite that would be crazy right!

The US GameCube release of RE4 was an earlier build of the game and has many differences unrelated to censorship. I suspect they toned down Ashley's breast bounce in the gondola (and the boat) simply because someone thought they looked silly on moving platforms. Similarly, Ashley's breasts were nerfed in the PS2 version not because of censorship but because they were desperate for freeing up the CPU-- that version of the game could only have 8 enemies on screen at a time, for example. That first PC version was nerfed too just because it was a lazy port of the PS2 version. Her breast physics returned in the Wii and later ports.

In America, "M "isn't actually the highest age rating possible. That honor goes to the rarely seen "AO" or "Adults Only" rating, which very few games ever receive. The rating is usually reserved for games with realistic depictions of intense violence, or more commonly explicit sexual content. Most brick-and-morter stores refuse to sell or advertise AO videogames due to the stigma surrounding them, so most games with that rating are incredibly obscure.

What about the scene where Ashley is restrained by the revolving wall? In a trailer she says "Oh my God! What's going on!?" but in the actual game the "Oh my God!" part isn't shown. The funny thing is though, the same trailer plays if you don't do anything at the title screen.

Resident Evil 4 was one of my favorite resident evils of all time ^^^ and glad that their wasn't that many censorships that took place in it

I have the us ps2 version but the jiggle, Ashley's suplex, and costume showing on the cutscenes made me purchase the gamecube version.

The update for the german version was never applied. so it's not banned, but not really possible to play unless you mod the game.

I'm reminded of a creepy cutscene where Leon sees security camera footage of Ashley with two men in a cell. It's really creepy because the one man sees the camera and takes it out. Why doesn't he want it being filmed, whatever the two of them are going to do to Ashley? Anyone know if something was taken out before it was released, or is it just accidentally creepy?

If I remember correctly, the Wii version ALSO had censorship, at least in Europe: I remember the chainsaw not cutting Leon's head when I played it.

I got so confused when you said how the mercenaries mode and assignment ada ain't in the german version until later, because my ps4 and steam version has it. It's really weird...I mean I got the game only recently, but I remember how my parents never allowed me to see it when I was little. There is nothing more satisfying then blowing the heads off with the shotgun, can't imagine this not happening in other ports. I can't play left for dead 2 properly in this country but this is okay...? It's not like I was traumatized when Leon's head got chopped off as a kid or anything

I wouldn't mind the censorship IF the game is rating for Everyone. Why do the game get Mature rating only to be censorsed though?

I think the next gen consoles should have added a new difficulty mode maybe called "nightmare" or "extreme" in which there are more enemies, stronger enemies, and enemies with fixed AI. It is about time they add a new difficulty, in my opinion. Professional was difficult on my first playthrough, but now, I figure Pro mode is not hard enough. I don't know, this is my personal opinion.

Pretty interesting reason from Germany to get rid off mini games. I'm glad all kinds of games are allowed unsencored in my country.

The PS2 was less powerful than the GameCube thus lower res textures and lower poly models. Later releases most likely are a fusion of the GameCube and PS2 version and the people who ported it most likely didn't even realize the physics were missing. Not intentional censorship but that's just this devs opinion.

actually, the bbfc usually rates films and not games and therefore it is more lenient on gore unlike our pegi rating system which acts like esrb

I'll tell you that just as I are fans of these games, the reason for putting censorship on them is to get that more sensitive side of the public, that is, feminists and children even being those who don't like this violence. I never liked any censorship and even today I don't like it, even in games that I don't like I don't approve of censorship because I would want that for my favorite game. I'll tell you something that should have happened, they could put the option to turn violent scenes on and off and even keep the game's formula, damn those who like censorship, I really hate it and that's it.

The breast physics thing is probably because of how young she is. Same reason why luis’s “ballistic missile” line was removed.

So they took away Ashley's bounce but let Jill have her's? Well it could be attributed to the ages of the characters. Ashley is first and foremost viewed as the DAUGHTER of a president. this implies that she is young and shouldn't be overly sexualized. We have established from the beginning that that Jill is an adult and that means that she can be. Though you would think that if Jill was wearing a bullet proof vest like she should be that there would be no jiggle. Then again this is a discussion about games and clearly not place for logic and rational thinking.
