In this new reaction video series, I'm going to watch my way through the classic late 80s sitcom Just the Ten of Us. This is the 1st episode of the 2nd season, Strangers in the Night.
Wow- it is so amazing that you are doing this! Used to love watching these episodes on USA. Then today I had on the classical music radio station in the car and they played the music to Simple Things and the words popped into my head. But I couldn't for the life of me remember where I had heard them- I know it was a movie or TV show. Hours later, when I had almost forgotten about it, it came to me- JTTOU. I came to RU-vid to see if there were any clips and found your reviews. Totally looking forward to the rest of them. And I love how you point how the characters changed- Cindy getting dumbed down, Marie from responsible eldest to rather frumpy and neurotic, Wendy getting wilder and more sexy. The Wendy/Cindy switch always made me laugh because the next time I saw them on various Aaron Spelling shows, the Wendy actress was very toned down on 90210 and the Cindy actress was vamped up for Melrose Place.
That is so funny that you mention that! I'm in my church's choir, and at least once or twice a year, we sing Simple Things, and I think of this episode every single time.
It makes me so happy to see JTTOU critiqued from an issues oriented approach. I love this show, and a lot of it holds up...but some of it doesn't. I'm also pleasantly surprised at the edge on display and the sometimes wicked wit. Love it! Keep it up!❤️
At 8:51 the kid that bumps into Graham in the hallway really resembles and sounds like Ira Heiden from A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. If this is an uncredited cameo this would make the fourth overall cast member from Elm St.
I just realized something after watching the GP episode you put up. The room number here is the same room number he had there. I think this is the same set, just redone for the Catholic school.
+RetroFat If its of any interest to you, there's a brief but good interview of jamie luner at sweet 16 and a half,of 17 yrs old or young. i recommend you should take a look.
FUN FACT: If you watch this whole show run backwards from end to beginning you will see and notice that you are probably quite insane and should seek professional help! 😛
I totally forgot how much I liked this show. I looked up to see what they replaced just the ten of us with and it was with terrible pilots. I now remember that there was never anything worthwhile watching on the 9:30pm time slot.
Going Places, which replaced this, only lasted one season and had its own retooling midway. It wasn't terrible though. Still, this show should've still be on that following year.
I actually like this episode in spite of its unevenness. Question: what happened to Cindy and Marie when Elizabeth is having the talk with Connie? Coach is in the living room with Wendy, but Cindy and Marie are nowhere to be found.
Your JTTOU reviews are great. Longtime fan of the show. It takes me right back to my childhood. It was cancelled way too prematurely and was infinitely better than Growing Pains.
I agree 100%. I haven't watched a second of Growing Pains (except for the JTToU spinoff eps) since the 90s, but I still adore this show. It was cancelled so much sooner. If it could have made it into normal (non-USA network) syndication, we'd all be viewing it as one of the greats of the era.
