After the local NS yard crew switched out all the cars in Lynchburg destined for NS's Linwood Yard north of Spencer, NC, the 611 tied on and blasted off for the North Carolina Transportation Museum, where it would be on display the following weekend. Since the passenger consist it had pulled from Lynchburg to Petersburg over the weekend were needed for the upcoming SOU 4501 excursions, it's just the N&W 611, her auxiliary tender, her tool car, and a cut of revenue freight out on the Southern mainline.
First we see the 611 blasting off from Montview Yard, passing Liberty University on the outskirts of Lynchburg, VA. Then we pace her just south of Altavista, VA, where many chasers are pulled off to the side of the road to view the spectacle.
