A nice looking kit, and great video Harry. I love they had to limit the engine. Purchaser: "How fast will it go" Royals Royce: "How fast do you want it?"
The engine limiters were often quickly dismounted in the field. I read a history of a Cromwell unit where one tank jumped a canal with a good enough run-up and a bit of a ramp. Unfortunately the first tank flattened the ramp a bit, so the second Cromwell just behind it didn't do so well.
I build and painted some of these for my friend's british. As you said it is a wonderful kit, well detailed with sharp edges. Easy to paint. Bf choose an interesting approche. The Normandy book lists (of all nations) are more straight foward. The list in the Bulge books offer some more and a little bit complicated lists at some point (even more if you use the command cards) but for that you get "rewarded" by some more vehicles.
Your point about lists is interesting, Trekan. I think for Normandy they had an idea of how they wanted Armoured Divisions to work, and that's what most units had in June through August. But lessons from combat experience plus newer and better gear meant units and unit organisations were in transition. This period of change lead to some of the odder lists, like troops of Challengers. Interesting point that I hadn't considered, Well done!
I would buy into a Comet based list, as the first model I ever built was the Matchbox 1/76 Comet. That said calling this book Bulge is disingenuous to the Battle of the Bulge. The British didn't arrive until the tail end, cleaned up the leftovers the US Army left for them, and Montgomery acted like he did something important, when it's his own stupid fault the Battle of the Bulge even happened in the first place. So I'll likely do a Comet Squadron, but I'm crossing Bulge out of the British title.
Hey Scott. The crews of 2nd Fife and Forfar who traded their new Comets for their old Shermans to go help on the northern flank might disagree, but the Bulge was a mainly US affair. This is really the British Market Garden and beyond book. But I guess BF felt they needed to match the title with the American and German books.
