I bought this for my daughter for Christmas. She is 7. She has loved using it. As you say it is very easy to use, but allows her to do all the sewing she wants- unlike the very lightweight child sewing machines. I was pleased to buy her something I felt she was not going to outgrow and would give her a proper introduction to the world of sewing.
Thank you for making this video about this little machine! I'm glad you rate it as I just picked one of these up so I can turn up the hems which my talented mum used to kindly do for me until she passed away. I've recently bought some new trousers so it's time to do her proud.
Hi Wendy. Thank you for your review. I’ve just purchased this machine as I’m a beginner and Looking forward to using it when it arrives. I watched another review and that showed there is a thread cutter. It is on the end of the left hand side of the machine which looks like a little hook. Also, you slide the storage drawer to the left to open. Hope that helps!! 😃😃
Thank you for this. You’ve a wonderfully calming and wholesome delivery. This will be my very first sewing machine and you’ve made me feel great about this choice of machine. I’ve subscribed so I can learn more from you ❤
This machine is ideal for someone who can't lift the old heavy sewing machines. I have a bad back and my machine is not only playing up but the fact that its now become a problem to lift makes me reluctant to spend money on repairs. At the current price of £80, I'm better off buying this. It does more than enough and this video demonstrates that I'd be getting a pretty robust machine. Thanks Wendy.
Hi Wendy , great video . I'm buying this for my wife . It's got great reviews . Very good price . I have no idea what a walking foot is !!! I guess you must be cheesed off with people telling you it has a thread cutter !! I have no idea how the thing works . 😎
I have the brother LS14s and I’m a beginner at sewing, I’m curious what the little hole next to the knob at front is used for. I can see that it has something to do with a zig zag stitch but I’m scared to try it. This video was very helpful when I first got my machine.
Thank you so much for this. You have a lovely calm demeanour.I have always felt intimidated by sewing machines but want to make a quilt as a gift. I unboxed my machine today - it arrived a week ago - but I have managed to do a practice piece after struggling to thread the needle so am pretty chuffed!
This is a great review. This is my first sewing machine it arrived yesterday and I want to have a rough idea what I’m doing before I start messing about!
Thank you for the vid. Very helpful. Looks like this will be suitable for repairs and alterations to jeans and other similar garments. And from your other replies, looks as though it'll do ok on overlocking. Any reason not to buy this for those kinds of jobs? Thanks again :)
@@sewletssewwithwendymathias Awesome sauce! Thank you for the reassurance and the quick reply. Off to Argos I go (you should ask Argos for a commission). All the best :)
Thank you for your lovely comments, I am using this machine all the time now, I fancied a changed and put my big machine away, I have to say I love it even more now xx
hi Wendy . do you think this machine will be good for sewing patches on to a denim jacket ? it takes forever to hand stitch them :)i have 0 experience of sewing machines but this one is reasonably priced .thanks for shearing your video for us all to watch !
@@sewletssewwithwendymathias Wow! Thank you for responding so quickly! If they were all the same like cottons? I have a specific project in mind, could I please contact you privately to discuss further?
Hi Wendy I got this sewing machine as I am a beginner sewer, just wondering about the best stitches to use, so for long stitches for basting which one do you use? and what stitch number is best for regular sewing ? should the tension dial stay at 4 for all stitches or do you adjust that too? thanks so much for your review it was very helpful - Gina in Ireland
Hi Gina, Thank you for you comments . For basting I would make the straight stitch the longest it will go, usual about 4. For general sewing I would set the stitch length to 2.5 or 3.0. You should keep the tension at around 3 to 4 , but you will soon know if it’s wrong. Pleas let me know how you are getting, if I be any more help just let me know xx
@@sewletssewwithwendymathias thank you for that - you are so kind to reply to me. Just wondering do you know where I can get new needles, bobbins for this machine? are all accessories ok? or do I need specific to this machine? if so can you direct me to the place to buy them? thank you so so much. Gina x
Hi hope you don’t mind me asking my wife is new at sewing And I brought her this machine secondhand and it come with a plastic foot not a metal one and it breaks needles so do you think it’s got the wrong foot many thanks Glen
Hi Glen, It is. Difficult to know without seeing the machine, but it sounds more like the machine is a fault rather than the foot. Remove the foot altogether and try sewing a little and see what happens. Your wife can PM me on instant messenger and we could them do a web chat I could see if I can help .best wishes Wendy
Hi Do you mean the stitch selection button ? It’s the big cuticular button? Am am sure that’s not watch you mean, sorry just let me know what you are looking for. Xx
Hi Wendy had this machine for a few years and have just started to use it. the bobbin thread keep going’s quite taught and snapping for some reason and also could I use the zig zag option as an overlocked substitute Thankyou lynda
Hi yes you can use the zigzag as an overlocker stitch, I do it all the time. If your bobbin thread keeps snapping it sounds like you have the tension too tight,. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching x
I have this sewing machine as a beginner, I am trying to take up some voiles but the fabric wont move under the foot, what settings should I be using Please ?
Hi, I purchased this machine a couple of years ago but cannot work out how to lower the feed dogs for when I'm sewing thicker material or to free sew, please someone help! X
Looking for a sewing machine that is easy to use and more importantly cheap to buy. This is a great review, think you've sold me to it. As a complete novice to the art of sewing, I am now filled with confidence that I can master this machinery. Then again, I am only a mere man so best keep my fingers well away from the pointy bit :)
Hi, I’m looking to get into clothes making (skirts, tops, dresses), would you say this is a good machine to use? I do have my grans vintage machine if I wanted any decorative stitches on areas but would this machine be suitable for seams and clothesy stuff?
Hi yes it’s really good for dressmaking, it comes with a button hole and zipper foot. It’s a good value machine. It had some good seam binding stitching . Good luck let me know if you need any help x
Hi I don’t think you can drop the feed dogs on this machine, I am sorry I can’t check as I am away from home at the moment. If you look at the back of the machine, there is usually a slide switch that drops the feed dogs. Your only other option is to see if brother sell a feed dog cover. Let me know how you get on and I will check my machine when I get home in about 10 days : thank you for watching x
@@amandah5478 it’s the stitch that looks like a heart beat on a heart monitor, it goes up and the a straight line, sorry machine isn’t here at the moment so I can’t look at it x
