I no longer use this item. It just wasn't for me. Trying out the RoadPro 12 volt Oven. My name is Brian. I live on the road in my self built camper van. Join me on my adventures. In this video I cook up some cornbread using a RoadPro 12 volt oven. It is a useful little electric cooker. I will be using it more in the future.

I am a long haul truck driver, been using one of these for years , for a little more evan cooking roll tin foil up into a long snake, then form it into a circle ,put it up under your tin, or put about a 1/2" of water in the bottom of your oven will help control temp.Last Thanksgiving i evan made a turkey breast for dinner, pork roast /tenderloin also works well. love your channel.

Instead of water or milk, use canned cream corn. Yum, yum, just add butter.

Great review. I tend to only use mine while I am driving. I use two pieces of tin foil, each crunched up into the shape of a hot dog and place them under the pan creating a small gap between the bottom of the oven and the pan. It really helps to eliminate any hot spots that will occur and burn the bottom of things. Thanks for sharing and safe travels my friend. 👍🚐🇺🇸

try sheperds pie (in the foil pan)...meat on the bottom...veggies in the middle...potatoes on top...tastes really good !!!

If you're going to be driving for about 3 hours, throw in chicken quarters (leg attached to thigh) and thinly sliced potatoes and carrots and seasoning. By the time you get where you're sleeping for the night it's ready and didn't use any battery. Meatloaf too.

Nice review, I bought one of these and they are great. One of the main reason your cooking times are out, is because you aren't preheating your oven.

I have used the little oven to bake a meatloaf going down the road, also used a small "Reynalds cooking bag" & put pot roast & veges in. I've even put a small frozen lasagna or other frozen meal. It's good to have a hot meal cooked when you get to your location with minimal cleanup. I do sit mine down in the sink as we are going down the road for safety.

Thanks. I enjoyed your review. What sold me was that you could be cooking other things and have this cooking dessert. I also like the cook while you drive aspect. I'm big on oven baking and roasting, so this might be a goo addition. Feel free to go foodie on me if you feel like it. Cooking in a van will be one of my topics when I start on the road.

Thumbs~Up.for another great cooking segment, Brian, and THANKS for making the rest of us hungry for hot cornbread, while watching your vlog:) That little electric "oven" looks fun to use, and I also saw Bob Wells use it to make some delish chocolate chip cookies. They were not as pretty as that cornbread, but he said quite tasty anyway!!! Be safe out there while "Living the Dream" and look forward to more videos from the road...

Been nomading for over a year now and have tried everything to try and keep things simple (no cleanup basically). I've had a butane stove and it was good, but all the pots, pans, and cleaning just wasn't practical. Eventually I came to realize that the RoadPro was really the way to go. Sure, you can't cook everything like a stove can,and it takes longer to cook whatever you wish to prepare, but it's simply awesome for when I want a hot meal in any weather and no cleanup when it's finished. I use it on the Jackery 500 and with most meals taking about 45-50 minutes it only drains 18%-22% of the battery if not being charged by panel.

I was thinking of using my toaster oven, which I already use a lot, instead of the stove, as it doens't heat up the kitchen much, requires less energy and cooks faster. I havne't checked the voltage yet.

This oven only heats up to 300 degrees F so naturally it is going to take longer to cook things that suggest higher temps. Overall, I think it worked great. Thanks for the tip. Oh, and to test the cornbread to see if it is done, stick a toothpick or fork in it and if they come out dry, the cornbread is done.

You should try putting a couple of little dowels under the tray to lift the baking tin off the bottom and allow the heat to circulate (like a trivet). It will always take longer than the instructions if oven is lower temp and not pre-heated before adding food.

I sometimes use a slow cooking Hot Logic Mini in tandem with the RoadPro so as to have a fast cooker and a slow cooker (time synched of course) to make pretty much any kind of meal/dessert. Also, they will both run on the Jackery 500 at the same time which makes cooking inside or outside really awesome. Keep up the great videos Brian, and God Speed......

I've got one had it for a few years it's a great little cooker especially during winter the only down side I find is that you need to have the vehicles Engine running when it's plugged in to the cigarette lighter socket to produce the amps needed about 14 amps I think to power it properly, yes you can run it off an high amp Leisure battery but it soon sucks it dry , I've try'ed looking for a mains 12v transformer that can supply the amps needed for those times your near mains power but can't seem to find one , check out the new Kampa Freedom gas cartridge oven , compact and reasonably priced think I'm going to buy one for this winter

a small pressure cooker is the best, I've made brownies, cakes and cheese cake in a pressure cooker. Nice thing is once the food is about half done you take the PC off the heat and let the pressure naturally cook on it's own for 25 minutes or so. Free heat for cooking. Great electric ones but stove top pressure cookers have been around for 100 years.

Nice review. Looks like it would be great for cooking while you are driving. Maybe winter cooking also or whenever cooking over a camp fire isn't practical or allowed at the time/place. That said, I have a nice stove/oven at home and seldom ever bake cornbread and stuff...lol. So, for me that thing would just collect dust. I could see others that like to cook maybe getting tons of use out of it though.

Take some foil and roll up some 'rods' to raise it above the bottom of unit to avoid burning. A water bath works well too. I love mine. But takes a but of trial and error to get it right. I even added in an adjustable power supply inline with the ciggy adapter. Though haven't dialed it in yet. I've done can ravioli, frozen Mac-N-Cheese etc. while driving. That is where it shines. I have done biscuits, with reasonable results. Plan on trying out using clean sand, kinda like using a water bath, Think it can work well.

Looking online for some real pans(since you cover it with foil anyway) that are a little shorter so you could put rolled up foil under it(as mentioned by others) and small enough that you could get a finger in between the pan and the oven on all sides would help a lot in the cooking department due to better air circulation. And the package directions say put it in a preheated oven. You can't put it in a completely cold oven and expect the cooking times to be anywhere near what was stated. Done with the changes above it should cook in about 15 extra minutes. Oh, and as small as that oven is, Everytime you open it you added a good 5 minutes to the cook time.

I've heard they get up to about 350F The top of the cooker is not heated so yes, I can take twice as long to cook something. With baked items, they brown on the bottom and not the top, and I guess if one was bothered by that and depending on what you were cooking, once it firms up you could flip it (?). In place of aluminum, you can use those loaf-sized glass baking pans.

You can use a solar oven when.the sun is.out. only reason to use this oven is if you have several days of rain. 144 watts is surely much lower and you can tie your vehicle battery to inverter for this specific purpose. Or the vehicle while vehicle is running.

The depth of of your corn bead in the pan makes a big difference in the final results, too shallow a depth of mix can end up with too dry and tough cornbread. Like if you make muffins, you don't make 1/2 inch tall muffins, just saying, sometimes you may need to use a smaller pan or all of the package to get the proper depth of batter. Job well done on the video.
