I was about to type that. I recently discovered this channel, and folks like Hilary. For being a world class, top of the heap musician, she seems so down to earth and awesome.

Honestly, that's a lot like Yo-Yo Ma too. There's a nice corner of virtuosos you just expect to act arrogant or rude, but then they are so friendly and down-to-earth. It's great! Ray Chen is just as nice in person as he is in twoset vids too.

For sure! I get nothing but cool vibes from her. Seems genuinely friendly, smart, casual, and focused.

while i do agree she seems very nice i have a hard time beleiving this is everyday as most people who are on tv or have exposure like this are able to mask their short comings for short periods of time...making themselves seem more relatable or....basically referring to the facade we all show the world where when behind closed doors we are to able to show our true selves....while this is obviously a part of her person i wonder what percentage of the time she actually acts in this way...and i dont mean to direct this solely at her but all characters we see on tv or whatever media ...

interesting story. i suppose one who's not familiar with classical music and the violin specifically couldn't tell the diff between Hilary and some generic but excellent soloist. but yeah, as a violinist, i can appreciate the subtle qualities of her playing that separate her from virtually every other violinist on the planet. she really is a freak of nature, in the best sense of the word.

Misaki Hana: An extended break or hiatus. It’s fairly common (at least where I’m from) to take a sabbatical year after finishing high school and before going on to university. Some have to work (albeit not full-time) and some enlist in the military, but most travel the world and ”find themselves”.

Lol that's the joke. I play predominantly fiddle music now, and I don't drink beer, and have never had my fiddle near beer. I still call it a fiddle, but also it's my personal preference to call it a fiddle as that's the style I play 😊 I would HATE to get something spilled on any of my fiddles. They may not be as expensive as a more professional classical violin, but they are my babies and I don't want anything to happen to them 🎻

I hang my guitar but keep my violins in the case. I have no idea if this is true or not but I feel violins are more susceptible to temperature and humidity and would prefer to keep them insulated. Plus I've accidentally knocked over my guitar multiple times but its been fine. I'd hate to drop a violin and have to get the bridge or sound post reset. My violin teacher hung her's up but only while she was teaching

One of the commonly overlooked requirements for caring for a violin or guitar is maintaining a stable humidity so that the wood of the body does not dry out and create cracks in the wood. This is less important for electric guitars because they usually have a solid body that is covered in lacquer but acoustic guitars really suffer from drying out. The easiest way to regulate humidity is to keep your instrument sealed in the case with a humidifier inside. A room humidifier can be used if you really want to hang your instrument on the wall but you need to be sure it is the proper strength for the room you are using to keep the humidity stable. When imagining the value of some violins compared to guitars I wouldn't even want to risk hanging them at all.

I hang my Violin's up (For space reason's) and play each one that is hung up. so far no problem's have come up from it.

@@wensledale When I saw that hook, I instantly thought of cheap violins in rural communities where it's basically the only music in that house, and most other stuff hangs on hooks too. Keeping it in tune is less important when there's no other reference.

Tahoe Mike: If you ever buy an expensive guitar (not necessarily Stradivarius expensive, just expensive enough that you wouldn’t be overly happy if it warped or what have you), keep it in its case at all time (well, maybe not while playing it ;)). You can have some cheaper ones out for decoration and/or ease of access, but it only takes about five seconds longer to get my guitars out of their cases anyway. Whether I’d do so more often if I had by Martin, Gibson or Schecter (or my bass and mandolin, for that matter) is another matter entirely. I wish I had more time to in general!
