Branikald's been one of my favorite black metal projects for years now, so I thought it might be fun to do some more in-depth coverage of Kaldrad's unrelenting assault from the taiga wastes!

Best memory of listening to Branikald, outdoors at 2am, Branikald on the stereo, while drinking some beers with the guys from Ibex Throne and Breath of Sorrows.

once upon a time me and my father went to Novomoskovsk (from where BBH originate, if I'm right) during a snowstorm and I just happened to have Stormheit and Vinterkald cd's with me. snow rising from icy tarmac like flames, magical experience.

Radio Free Innsmouth is my favorite channel. Thanks man for the hot take on Branikald; I enjoyed it as always. I hope the third Lucifugum episode comes out someday. Cheers!

Always loved BBH. Branikald, Vargleide, Forest especially. Among the worshippers I enjoy Lascowiec the most.

Had a few rainy days at work the past couple weeks, spent it cranking some classic Branikald on the earbuds cuz of this episode. Great stuff!

Awesome. The world needs more discussion of the BBH bands. I discovered them in high school through Temnozor and Branikald in particular has become one of my favorite bands of all time.

For me I think it was right after high school, I saw the album covers for Rdjandalir and Varg Fjerne a Tornet and just had to know what they sounded like. Later on I found out I'd actually been listening to Kaldrad's work for longer than I thought because of the Temnozor connection; Folkstorm of the Azure Nights was really big on the folk metal side of the internet when it was new.

This is probably my favorite band ever. But there's also Burzum, Forest, Rundagor, Ravendark, and all the Blazebirth Hall. I even got in touch with Illia Babin back in 2009 when I had my own projects, Vientosur mainly in the times of the Austral Kindred Circle. Good old times.

Easily my favorite black metal project. Kaldrad was special in the way he wrote his songs. He could retain the same melodies for an entire song, yet keep on building on to them in a way were everything just floated together perfectly. In that way he created a transcendant and hypnotizing atmosphere of which i dont really hear in any bands outside the BBH (except for the bands that worship them ofc).

My favorite's gotta be that Trong Tay Thần Chết demo, but I haven't been listening to Vothana nearly as long as Branikald so that'll probably change over time.

Got Stormheit and Kveldulv - both amazing listens, need to expand my Branikald collection! Honestly would've never learned about them if not for your first episode on them - chanced into both of those releases a few days after watching and been enjoying it since.

It would be cool to get a dedicated Vothana episode by the way. Maybe even a Blazebirth Hall one as well.

@radiofreeinnsmouth1337 3 месяца назад
There'll be a Vothana episode eventually, I'm still trying to get a handle on the demo era. Blazebirth Hall is going be completely covered at some point as well, at least two more Branikald episodes and probably one each for Rundagor, Forest and Raven Dark respectively.
@unatco6554
@unatco6554 3 месяца назад
@@radiofreeinnsmouth1337 Yeah Vothana's stuff is all over the place. Ever few months I find something "new" of theirs I hadn't known existed prior to finding it. Same for Kaldrad's projects. I just found out about Wotansolv last year and I have been listening to Blazebirth Hall projects for a while. Possibly Kaldrad's best work imo.
@radiofreeinnsmouth1337
@radiofreeinnsmouth1337 3 месяца назад
Technically Wotan Sølv is more of Ulv's project than Kaldrad's, so it's more like a Raven Dark continuation than a Branikald one. Kaldrad does the vocals, but Ulv does all the instrumentation and wrote the music. It's definitely good stuff though.

Blikk av Kald is one of my favorites as well. I usually call that album Hladavzor in my head though because of how he yells that at the beginning of the second to last track on the album. I'm also pretty big on Triumf Voli, Kveldulv, and Winterkald, but like I said, honestly every album is great in its own way. Lately I've been listening to Ravished by the Battle of Things and Rising Up the Thing of Winds the most.

@@radiofreeinnsmouth1337 yeah agreed about the whole discography, including Triumf Voli despite it being an outlier sound-wise.

BBH is my guilty pleasure. I discovered Forest back in 2007 during my uni days, through those obscure blogspot websites of the time that uploaded mp3s (in poor quality, HDD space was precious at the time) non-stop. Within a few days, I had listened to all of the music they had made until that point. I went to a few extremes (cash in envelopes sent to Russia) to get some of their CDs through Stellar Winter. I have amassed a huge collection of CDs and LPs since then, I am still collecting the ASRAR releases. And I am nowhere close to their dumb politics either.

Great video about a top tier band. Also, I have to disagree about gym BBH songs, the final Nitberg album is imo the best gym stuff to come out of that scene. Also, Veles, Infernum and Fullmoon in one episode would be a great idea.
@radiofreeinnsmouth1337
@radiofreeinnsmouth1337 3 месяца назад
I meant more like a gym BBH song from this episode specifically. My most-listened-to gym songs from BBH as a whole are probably the second Nitberg album for cardio and the final Branikald album for lifting.
