This one's been a long time coming! One of the greatest to ever do this whole war metal thing the kids are so into nowadays, Sacramentary Abolishment are surprisingly underrecognized pioneers of combining grind, doom, melody, and savagery in way that hasn't really been seen before or since. Learn all about that kind of thing and more in this exciting episode!

The drummer / vocalist used to play in another band called Rites Of Thy Degringolade with the dude from Svolder/Blood Libel. Another fun fact, one of the dudes from Tomb Mold was once in a band with the guy behind Svolder/Blood Libel. I find it hilarious that if you look hard enough pretty much everyone in the scenes paths have crossed in one way or another and if that fact happened to come out Tomb Mold would be in big trouble with the RABM bozos

I actually listened to a whole bunch of Sammath and Kaeck stuff a couple weeks ago, they'll definitely get an episode eventually. I've also got Part III of Branikald coming up and I'm probably going to do something with Nitberg pretty soon as well.

Yup, I was listening to Purity a lot last week. I also love Obey and of course Strike. Still need to listen to The List more. Rites of Thy Degringolade is sick too, at least on the first three albums.

Funny you mention this war metal act being inspired by disEMBOWLMENT. Having listened to the Pantalgia comp they're on, a lot of the fast moments of their song reminds a lot of the first Bestial Warlust album. An australian band too funnily enough. Got that weird sound during the blasting moments that I don't remember the full length being that fast, even on the song they rerecorded.

I would do unspeakable things to have a reissue of Sacramentary Abolishment’s albums on LP and CD. Finding copies of their albums is like finding hen’s teeth or rocking horse manure.

I managed to get the original River of Corticone CD for like $20 on discogs back in the day. I almost kind of feel bad, maybe they didn't know what they had when they were selling it.

Thanks for this episode, so glad to see people rediscovering Sacramentary Abolishment. By the way: besides Rites of Thy Degringolade, Paulus Kressman went on to play in numerous other bands. Haven't checked out all of them yet, but I can say Ouroboros sure does sound a lot like late Sacramentary/early Axis material - i.e. bestial war metal with some sense of grand, epic melody to it.

This one certainly threw me for a loop. Sacramentary Abolishment is probably one of the best examples of what I think should be the “true” spirit of war metal. The only thing which tied all of those early war metal bands together, other than the sheer abrasion of the music itself, is that they all wanted to stray far away from any sort of label in favor of forming their own unique sound (ironic, isn’t it?). For me, where a band like Revenge falters, Sacramentary Abolishment excels! What other war metal band that you can think of can be described as having “lots of peaks and valleys” in their songs? I’m definitely looking forward to an Axis of Advance episode. I think Strike kind of a synthesis of the two styles we see on each SA album, and the resulting sound just sort of evolves and mutates with each subsequent release. On a side note, you’ve also convinced me to give more time into the early Kataklysm material. Great work as always!
@radiofreeinnsmouth1337
@radiofreeinnsmouth1337 3 месяца назад
For the peaks and valleys thing, I'd say Order from Chaos definitely fits the bill, also Beherit if they count as war metal. All the Kataklysm albums with Sylvain Houde on vocals are pretty essential. I like some of the later stuff as well although really more as just kind of dumb but fun gym music.

One band that’s tied into this band and Rites of Thy Degringolade as well as Gloria Diaboli is AMSG. One of the most insane bands to come out of Canada just in how weird they can get. Definitely worth checking out.

I remember checking out axis of advance and sacramentary abolishment when I got into blasphemy, conqueror and revenge, axis didn't do much for me but sacramentary was actually pretty good even if it wasn't exactly what I was looking for at the time. I don't think either of them are war metal or blackened death metal, they are something else completely.

@@radiofreeinnsmouth1337 Cool that’s good to know Yeah I’d suggest it he’s definitely one of the most interesting people/producers in his own right in black metal the whole “blackwave” shit is 90% shit But the other 10% in that style he’s does something super unique and interesting as he’s just so capable but rarely does Like introverted transparency for example is a real hit and unique and interesting form of black metal but I’d suggest giving him a thorough look over at some point Like purifying the river of tears some of the last true to his style black metal he released and “ The epitome of misanthropy” has just this blistering fast blast that takes up more then half the song really some mind blowing shit Deserves an episode one day just sayin True fucking whack job

@radiofreeinnsmouth1337 3 месяца назад
Maybe some day, I figured they were a little too big compared to what I usually cover but I've done like Immolation and Deicide so why not? I'm not huge on their later stuff, but it's pretty respectable, and of course their '90s stuff is all MANDATORY death metal. My favorite's Diabolical Conquest and I swear it's not just because I'm a Daniel Corchado fanboy.

@@radiofreeinnsmouth1337 Oh definitely! I absolutely love all the early stuff especially Onward to Golgotha and Mortal Throne. Your opinion is unbased. The quality of the actual recording could be better, true. Otherwise their two albums' material is top stuff. Glad they dissolved, because there would not have been Rites and Axis, both stellar acts.
