It's easy to dismiss seemingly smaller tools like those cool RGBWW bulbs for filmmaking - they're just fancy bulbs right? Actually, these are the kind of things that can help us out on both a smaller and bigger budget - and can be not just integral elements in your scene to connect your lighting together, but also a way to utilize your environment and already existing lighting at your location.
I'm one of Samyang's UK brand ambassadors - which means I shoot most of my work with the Samyang VDSLR MK2 Cine lens kit. In this video we used:

Samyang 35mm t/1.5 VDSLR MK2
Camera:
Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro

Rob mate you've just absolutely smashed it out the park! "Here's how you light with expensive softboxes-- BOOM it was a window the whole time go fuck yourself!". You've just confirmed why I shouldn't beat myself up about my lighting budget.

Hahaha I wish that could be the actual narration but I feel like lighting companies would stop working with me 🤣 absolutely, there's always a way to get the image even if it's a bit different to how you envisioned it. Thank you so much!! :)

Finally somebody talks about these bulbs. While trying to light-test some scenes myself- I was getting pretty flat, uninteresting results because I used those flexible Falconeyes LED panels, and huge light sources. Then, I realized that a 'point light' such as a lamp- feels more realistic since this what lights our day to day real life at home. So, I figured these RGB LED lamps are the way to go [especially operating as a one man band]. Only problem is...sometimes they're not as powerful as you'd like.

Thank you so much! Bulbs and natural light are the perfect budget combination! :D
@TravisTravels
@TravisTravels Год назад
These are genius. I have been filming in natural light for years. I only very recently bought some apurture bi color lights and I immediately saw just how much I've missed with using lights. It's just changed my entire perception of how I look at film now. I can't wait to implement these techniques into my own work. By the way, I've gone to your site but the Downloads page just sits there in buffering and never seems to load fully.
@RobEllisCinematographer
@RobEllisCinematographer Год назад
Thanks Travis!! I think getting to know natural light and how to shape it is invaluable, as when it comes to using lights you have a better eye for being able to recreate it! I just double checked and the downloads page seems to be working for me? Maybe the web builder was temporarily having issues!

Hi Rob, truly amazing content!....what light would you recommend around the £300-£350 price point?? Also, how can you gel a daylight fixture when using a softbox?? Thanks!!
@AllThingsFilm1
@AllThingsFilm1 Год назад
Thanks for the heads up on these Nanlite bulbs. I noticed on B&H that you can buy one for $75 and four for $499. Which is strange, because I could choose the single bulb and select "4" from the amount to order, making the total $300 (plus tax). If the four piece came with a case the price difference would make more sense. Anyway... Excellent demonstration.

The light looks really handy. I wanted to know about its CRI and TLCI rating. Also, are there any particular downsides to the light that we should consider while buying?

Hi, I'm very interested in the 15£ mini-course. But I still don't quite understand how it's made up. How much content of the 46 minutes is already on RU-vid and how much is entirely new / exclusive?
@RobEllisCinematographer
@RobEllisCinematographer Год назад
Everything is on RU-vid apart from Part 3 - if you buy the mini-course, you'll be paying for Part 3 + the convenience of having everything in one place, with no ads, actual video files, options with or without music, or as one full 46 minute video. And it's a way to support the RU-vid channel of course! :) This is also written on my website before you buy. My apologies this has been a bit of slow reply!!
