Red Hot Chili Peppers at Big Day Out festival (2000) playing Scar Tissue. At the beginning you can see how crazy the crowd was. The band had to wait till they calm down,
how to stop a riot by anthony kiddies "just do as little violence as possible right now, don't make it worse make it better, don't get mean, get nice" Dudes like ghandi
Seroogy W what can you do when theres thousands of people trying to get to you while you're on stage, all you have to help is your mic. Playing scar tissue was the solution to calm the crowd down and it worked
At the Almost the exact same day at almost exactly the same time, 12 months later the mosh pit for Limp bizkit had the same thing happen. An instead of doing what the chili's did, Fred durst, called security punk ass mofo's, didnt ask the crowd to step back, didnt work with event staff an a girl died. How do I know this? I was at both. The chilis need to be applauded for the way they handled that situation.
Simon B A band is there to perform. The police asked the band to play on or else there would be more and more riots. Durst could do nothing in this situation. I dont understand why you would blame Durst for the crowds actions buddy.
It's almost like this was a recurring problem and the organizer and security were completely at fault. I admit that RHCP went above and beyond and that Fred Durst is a douche, but seriously organizers are completely to blame for that death not Limp Bizkit.
Anthony looks genuinely scared and shocked at how the crowd was acting, which I can't blame him for. Overall, I think both the security and the band handled the situation very well, and I applaud them for that.
Crowd Crush was happening. Everyone crushing people against the front gates and pretty much suffocating them. Thats why you see security pulling them over the gates. Ive been crowd crushed before and it sucks. Feels like you got a car on you.
@@MobySlick at the end of the day man they got a show to do and a running time to do it by you have a set time to abide by, they're all professional about it but they aren't supposed to be doing that, they didn't even need to they're just there to perform
Travis Scott is trash! He incites violence, invites it and loves to start shit! He doesn’t give one shit abt his “fans”. Honestly if he went away for good, the world would be a better place.
It's just like Anthony says, the crowd got crazy and pushed too hard and people were literally crushing each other. You can see how tight that crowd is. I've never seen anything like it, lots of people must have gotten hurt or really scared because they couldn't breathe... that must have been pretty scary for the band too. This is nuts.
I’m a pretty big tall strong guy & I was there in the crowd. Up the front, seriously was bad, crowd was so compressed. 2 girls were next to me, 1 fell down & was seriously stuck under drunk people that just didn’t care. I remember asking ppl to step back, they ignored, the girl on the ground was screaming, I had to punch & push people so I could get to her arm and get her up, the poor girl was almost unconscious, thank God I was able to rescue these girls, I took them both by their hands and lead them to the back grandstand away from everyone. I got the Girl some water & ended up missing the rest of the show because this poor girl was still in shock and needed support & consoling. My gf & mate were smart because right from the start they decided to watch the show from the back behind the crowd coz the crowd was absolutely crazy. All in all was a great day, yet will never forget saving that girl. ❤️ ✌🏿 PEACE
@@therealrcg6838 works for the band bc ppl came for live music. taking away what ppl cared for. doesnt work for teachers since kids dont care about learning.
I always marvelled at Johns transformation. After rejoining the band he first looked like a heroin addict, then fucking ripped with short hair, and by the early 2000s he looked like Jesus.
Even with the Controllers executing NWO (aka Tikkun Olam) (?), 'cause they are carrying out their gameplan, unopposed, just like they have boasted for decades.
I've always loved rhcp but I've never seen this... It strikes me that Anthony looks genuinely like he's terrified people are getting hurt, not like he's irritated at having to wait.
Ant did such a good job! Refused to play until it calmed down and spoke with security to get on the same page. This makes the the Travis Scott situation look even worse.
It wasn't fighting . It was the mass influx of people coming from the side of the stage where nine inch nails had finished . It was heaps of people pushing to get a view of the stage . I was in there . It was frantic .
came here after the travis scott tragedy. what anthony did here is the only right thing. trying to calm people down. mad respect. do as little violence as possible right now. i cant believe 8 kids died at a fucking rapconcert. prayers go out to all those affected.
I was in this.. scary af..18 yr old young woman stuck on the ground with people standing on my stomach. ..I managed to get someone's attention to get me up on top of the crowd and over to the front where the security got me out. The following yr a girl was killed.. insane
There were lots of people stuck. I helped a girl who was in a similar sit as you - on the ground and hyperventilating with fear. Pushed a way out to the front for her. I can still feel the pressure of the crowd.
I was part of the BDO touring security team and up front on this one. I've never felt temperatures so hot and stifling. It was terrifying for me let alone the poor people we were dragging from the bottom of the crush.
I was at this concert and remember this very well as we’d been up front for the Foo Fighters and it was quite chilled. Then NIN came on (but on the other stage as BDO had the twin stages) and it got quite tight so once RHCP came on as the head liners everyone rushed the pit. We were kind of stuck mid front and you just had to go with it as it was too crammed to get out. They don’t show it in the clip but Anthony walked off for a bit as he was obv pissed at not getting through to everyone (including security). It mellowed a lot after that so we were able to move back where there was more room to have a bit of a dance. Security was a bit OTT that day as I remember the drummer from Spiderbait jumped off the stage and into the crowd and got halted by security when he first tried to get back on stage! Aside from the crush, which Anthony handled brilliantly, it was one of the best festivals I’ve ever been to. Can’t believe it’s 21 years ago. I’d do it again tomorrow if I had the energy!! 😍😈🕺
I think this is good evidence that musicians can see the crowd from the stage and that a show can be stopped to keep people safe. What happened here? The crowd was getting hectic and the band stopped playing for about five minutes. What happened in Texas? Travis Scott and company saw and probably heard people in distress and ignored them. Camera operators were told about kids dying and did nothing about it. How long would that show have to be stopped for? I don't know how big either crowd was, but maybe 10 minutes? 30? An hour? The band did really well here. Travis and Aubrey are pretty despicable for ignoring all those in danger at their show.
Well said! I can’t believe people are still defending him saying he couldn’t do anything. Obviously the event organisers are to be held accountable as well. Also let’s not forget it was Travis’ festival organised by him.
@@swhipple and that's actually the clip people are using to defend him. "Ay, someone get that kid! YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAHH." It was the most half hearted attempt at saving a life.
@@meowertwelve6262 I mean it's a bit better than doing nothing, but what's really rough about that clip is that after it, he just goes right back to performing.
These guys are class acts to the highest of levels.. If your a band this big and you truly care this much about your fans you are top notch in my book.. Love RHCP..
No .. wasn't fighting like that. There was a big crush and people were freaking out. ALso some at the front didn't appreciate the guards efforts to drag them out. At one point Anthony is actually telling the security guys to chill out and not get too rough. The deal was if you got pulled out theyd take you out to the side and put you outside the main area - sensible but not appreciated by some.
Should've been a huge mosh pit. More people get hurt when zombies push to be closer to their idols. Dance and have a good time. Who the fuck cares if they're 10-20 feet closer to their idols. Get a pit started. Sooner or later you can get close to 'front row' if that's all people about.
Yeah they know what they're doing. Metallica accidentally caused a riot when James got set on fire in Montreal and Guns n Roses didn't play because Axl is a dick. Don't incite the crowd or make shit worse. Chili Peppers have been doing this for thirty plus years. They're good because they don't wanna see people get hurt.
I had never seen this. This played automatically while I wasn't paying attention and I have goosebumps. Anthony is so magical. "Good guys, bad guys, surrender" / "We gonna soothe you wild bastards out there!" / "Maybe no...". Thesr are iconic quotes and he is a beautiful soul.
The peppers really handled the situation very well. Unlike Fred Durst from Limp Bizkit a couple of days later, at the same festival. He called the security bullshit, and a girl even died there... Big respect to Anthony for handling this like a champion with his nice white hair. "dont get mean, get nice" ✌🏼
It is a fine read, and I’d recommend to anyone who hasn’t yet become a mature and sensible person at age 40 to read and re-read it. I especially appreciated the kind words Anthony has for every person that has come in and out of his life, this is something to applaud as many people become bitter with the negative experiences they have gone through and forget that they should remain above else grateful and cognizant of the fact they re still alive and rocking out or whatever it is they are doing with their lives.
The way the whole crowd moves as one is so scary. I was in a situation once at a festival and it was one of the most unpleasant things I've ever experienced.
That was the case here -- a reasonably lose and open crowd moshing to the previous acts just MOVED as one and compressed to less than half its previous area as RHCP came on.
Yes I got floored at Donington when the stage collapsed and 2 people died. Very scary how you just get swept away by a sea of people. Thankfully a huge Motorhead fan picked me up by the scruff of the neck and stopped me getting trampled.
i remember this like it was yesterday, was only 9yo and standing at the very front, ppl started to push foward and my dad put me over his shoulders until some security guy pick me up to stay at the other side of the fence to keep me safe. Chad offered me a bottle of water, it made me stop crying.
How this is possible awful. What music can do with People. Some get Drunk so this is how it looks like then. It should be like with Kids now everyone step back 1,2,3 and another.
@Theresa L. Dowling This isolated thread is not about Anthony Kiedis!! To answer your comment. You dont know Johns or any of the other bandmembers's personal opinion on what AK did, so you cant automatically call him/them enablers.
I respect the shit out of Anthony and always have. This just reinforces it. I can't stand people that belittle keidis. Dudes an amazing guy and one of the best front men of all time in my opinion
I saw RHCP at their next stop on this tour at the Melbourne BDO. They played a very subdued show as I recall, they could have been playing in front of a mirror for all the emotion they showed. I wonder in hindsight if events in Sydney may have lead to them playing in a more low key manner for the rest of the festival shows.
I was front row at 06 Lolla during the RHCP, waited there the entire day. I made it halfway through their set before I blacked out from dehydration and lack of air. Luckily a security member was there to pull me out. I woke up on the grass to the left of the stage, my pants, shirt and shoes were nowhere to be found. What an awesome night.
easily one of the best videos on the site. Anthony's commentary, half the crowd singing the chorus while the other half beats the shit out of each other, the song choice at a moment like that, John's teasing, "push me up against the wall", the list goes on LMAO
Good guy Anthony. Just like the time MCR were in Aus and they stopped in the middle of a song because Gerard (the lead singer) pointed out a girl who he saw fell and was getting crushed.
This is why theyre my favorite band they actually care about the well being of their fans some bands would probably try to boost the crowd up or whatever but Anthony really tried the best he could
Travis Scott brought me back to this, j love how Anthony and John tease the crowd wkth scar tissue, and they force thousands of people too all simultaneously surrender together because they all want too hear the music.
What a nice guy Anthony manages to make something serious seem so peaceful and funny making people laugh so they don't get annoyed 😂 but John got angry and stopped the song to talk to Anthony about it... " Sounds best in the back somewhere, that's what I heard" 😂 what a legend
