I'd have a cellar full of wines but life bumps me about from place to place too much. Someday, someday. I do make mead and drink it straight away though.

Very glad I found your channel. We made this a few weeks ago and it is amazing. Definitely a keeper. Please post some recipes of what to make with the mash from all of your rhubarb wines/beers. A few questions; how does one keep the alcohol content higher, yet go for a more tart / less sweet product? Do any of your viewers have a recipe for using the mash in the distiller to make a rhubarb vodka? Thanks. I love the content, and your style. Very informative and entertaining.

Great video, well done!!! Im making a batch of this. Took the mash out, and the liquid tasted like pear juice. Wasnt sure if it was fermenting properly, as Im totally new to home brewing. So put in some extra yeast and sugar, but dissolved them in a small cup of warm water to activate the yeast. Also put the brewing vessel in a warmer part of the cupboard. Seems to have worked. Would this also work with rasperries or cherries to make a kreike?? Would be interested to hear of other similar brewing options.

Loving your channel ❤ was wondering if I could I use gooseberry's instead of rhubarb. I'm waiting for my rhubarb beer to carbonate. Can't wait to try it. Thanks for the recipes 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🥂

Hi James, love the videos. I just have a question about primary fermentation in general (I'm quite new to wine-making). Have seen some people say to cover the vessel and use an airlock and others say to just cover with a lid or use cling film, as otherwise the yeast will be starved of oxygen. Would you be able to clarify which is right? Danny

Many other recipes I’ve read say that with that amount of rhubarb, you only use one gallon of water. Is this much rhubarb actually enough for 5 gallons?

Hi Dee and James. I made this a couple of weeks ago and ran into a couple of issues. The Rhubarb when removed tasted like under cooked bread and smelled like rising dough even after baked. Also my demijohn is very milky and after 14 days still fermenting vigorously, I used asda instant dried bread yeast like you but also as I have no ale yeast and my general purpose yeast goes 14-16 % too strong for this brew,. Would adding some pectolase help the milkyness? Cheers, take care and stay safe all of you, Mike

Hi, just watching a previous video and this pinged in. Like the idea of something quick to make. Got several wines on the go but it takes a while when you are just starting before you get your first finished product. Definitely going to try this! Can I scale down and make a 1 gallon batch, or is it best in larger quantities? Thanks, love the vids, got a couple of your brews on the go at the moment!!
@HappyHomestead
@HappyHomestead 4 года назад
Thank you! Indeed you can make a 1 gallon batch. .. around 700g rhubarb, 800g sugar and top it up with water, and a teaspoon of yeast. Better in large quantities in my opinion because the 8 bottles you'll get from a gallon won't last long - especially over good summer weather :)

Another great video for making a great wine in a very quick and simple way but your method of priming (carbonating) the rhubarb wine (or beer) is more challenging than it needs to be. Rather than add 1 t of sugar to each bottle (and you showed us how much sugar you might spill and how much sugar might not get into some bottles) a much better approach is to rack your beer into a bottling bucket and add the total amount of sugar you need to add to the beer or wine to that bucket. And the simplest method is to dissolve all the sugar in a little water (or wine) so that it is easy to mix through the entire batch. You then bottle primed beer (or wine). and every bottle has precisely the same amount of priming sugar (I think it might be about 5 or 6 oz to each 5 gallons. But there are calculators all over the web to determine the total amount of sugar you want to add to prime to about 2 atmospheres of pressure (beer bottles can withstand about 4 atmospheres and at THAT level of pressure you will get a gusher when you crack open a bottle).

I can’t wait to try this. I love your Chanel, I’ve learnt a lot from your easy to watch videos, but one thing annoys me, ‘3 kilos of rhubarb, 4 kilos of sugar, and 5 gallons of water’ . Now I get the picture with the rhubarb and sugar, but as a metric thinker Im not able to conceptualise what a gallon really is - I have to google it every time, along with their friends the pounds and ounces. Can’t we just leave the imperial stuff to the Americans?
@VyseNice

Remember there's a difference between imperial gallons and a british gallon as well.

I'm not usually one to be picky, but that's not a beer, that's a light, sparkling rhubarb wine.

If you make a 12% alcohol brew from malted barley and don't add any hops or other bittering agents, would you call that a beer or a (barley) wine?
@SM0KE_0RIG1NAL
@SM0KE_0RIG1NAL 4 года назад
@@edgarburlyman738 this is an age old debate, the old barley wine argument. As far as I'm concerned, grains = beer / only fruit = wine. If you were to make a beer with grains and also add fruit, I'd call it a fruity beer.

4Kg of sugar to 3Kg of rhubarb seems like an awful lot. I only use 2Kg of sugar for same amount of rhubarb to make wine . I will have to try your recipe . To make wine stronger, freeze it in a plastic bottle and then let it melt and leave some of the water behind as ice. Don't over due it, you might poison yourself !

@@LydiaDeHep Yes , it seems ok and fairly strong but tastes yeasty. I used 5L water, 600g rhubarb, 800g sugar . I will stick to wine making though !
