Always be mindful of the judgement you pass it could one day be you . I used to be the one that would judge those who used welfare . I was able to maintain a certain lifestyle until I had babies . I knew financially I would be okay and I was for a few months but my twins need milk they would run through can after can and it felt like I couldn’t make it so after awhile I got Wic assistance. I was thankful and appreciative. Mind you I’m a nurse and things started to change for all of us during the pandemic.
There are 3 choices: Pay everyone a living minimum wage; supplement wages with welfare or expect mass chaos & looting in the streets. People have to eat, have shelter & clothing. Social welfare programs aren't about empathy or feelings--it's a safety net that prevents society from burning. Where's the outrage for corporate welfare & bailouts, which dwarf social welfare in annual spending?
Things were very different when my husband and I were starting out with out young child, we both worked low wage jobs and the only thing we got was free lunch for our child, thank God. Life was HARD. I had to pawn all the jewelry that I had inherited from a family member and we always had our phones cut off, and sometimes our power too. I was so lucky to have parents that sometimes helped with food and rent. Eventually our hard work paid off and we both get paid decently enough that we can cover all our bills, and have money for extras too. We struggled HARD for at least 6 years and received virtually nothing to help us out.
Yup! Watched a guy from Canada not to long ago say that he's never ever had to worry about insurance. He never had to keep a job he hated, not switch a career he wasn't happy in because of health insurance. That's why we have old miserable men and women completely stuck at a job because if they leave they won't have health insurance. It's not right, imagine if Americans had the option to go after their goals and dreams no matter what? People probably wouldn't need welfare for multiple years. I wish people would use their heads.
Because we aren't communist. You have to wait 9 months for emergency surgery and most people die waiting. It's not what you think. I believe in private charities which we do have. Catholic charities cover the costs of most surgeries.
@@genevieves8908 Really? Because I know people from Canada that crossed the US border because they were told to wait 8 months for an appendectomy. Another woman in Canada who has been disabled for 5 years and a veteran was told to end her life because they didn't want to send her home care assistance.
When this aired back in 1996, the federal minimum wage was upped to $4.75, which adjusted for inflation, is worth $8.59 in 2022. The current federal minimum wage today is $7.25.
I was on welfare however i was only on it for 1 year, i received food stamps and had assistance with childcare. Once i was done with college and received my degree. I got off its to give you a boost while you better yourself NOT make it a career.
Same! I was on it a little more than a year though, but once I finished school it's been up from there. I am thankful that our country has a system to lend a helping hand to those who need it, but I despise those who see it as a permanent way of life.
Yup at one point my whole family was on welfare and I just had my kid at 20. Now everyone has great paying jobs and we all doing very well. God is good. Idk what person would wanna be on welfare their whole life. Welfare is literally enough to cover basics and barely that. My welfare was only enough to care for my kid and keep my phone on to keep a job
I just have to say that inflation is real! The cost of living is real! It keeps going up. Chicago's minimum wage is àlmost 17$ an hour. If all states put a bill into place to raise minimum wage and çontinue to do it than these companies have no choice but to raise their wages!!! These corporations and companies need to start paying people accordingly as they make millions of dollars!
I never understood why people get upset about others receiving help. I've never received assistance of any kind or welfare but I am 100% okay with taxes being taken out of my checks for the benefits of helping other people in anyway. Welfare would not exist if housing and food in the country was affordable!
For clarification,...the "5-year welfare limit" refers to the CASH BENEFITS...Food stamps, medicaid, even Section 8 benefits vary per income/household, etc & can qualify the rest of your lifetime...It is May 2022, the restrictions are the same.
I was on public assistance and food stamps and had 3 kids i had go to work not receiving child support their dad was in prison i didnt get my hair done or my nails done my kids were my first priority
I've been on welfare since 2009. And have 3 kids. But no matter what job I get ... It's never enough. Its the f**king prices of rent and all that skyrocketing every goddamn year
Alot people got qualifications and can't have a work that not their fault. Prime minister should change healthcare and people should be allow to go hospital if they sick for free if they are poor.
All this bickering and it never happened. Even more folks on welfare today. More food stamps, more financial benefits and a whole lot less fathers in the picture, unless they are living off the mother, but then it's usually the boyfriend, not the father. A lady I know has been on welfare for 22 years. Every time a child turns16, she has another baby. She dresses nice every day, sells her food stamps and depends on the older children to take care of the younger ones while she goes out almost every night to party. Different men running in and out of the house constantly. She's by far not the only one. Shameful. Oh, and now the oldest 3 girls are on welfare. She had 7 children.
That's crazy! People like that ruin it for the ones who really need it. And I know a couple of people that do that same thing u were talking about. I've been married for 22 years. We have 4 kids, daughter is 20 and 3 boys 16, 8, 1. We don't get welfare and sometimes, especially now that groceries and everything has gone up, we struggle but we make it work.
I know a woman who has 7 kids by 6 different fathers. She has a child every time the oldest one ages out. She lives off of child support, public assistance, and using the men she dates. She has been married at least four times. Every year she has a new man it seems like. Her daughter turned 16 and got emancipated. She doesn’t talk to that daughter anymore. She refuses to take birth control.
Wait, you are joking right?? Lol GA almost never happens anymore, and Welfare was turned into TANF, which has many conditions and is relatively uncommon. I worked in a homeless shelter and welfare as formerly consitutted was almost entirely absent. EBT was very common, but Idk what these people would have done without due to the immiseration of the masses.
If you can't feed them do not breed them. No one owes you help nor understanding when you are irresponsible and have children you are unable to afford to care for.
Fast food places are always hiring. And they will hire just about anyone. Unless you have multiple felonys If they have multiple felonys then their idiots and probably should be in jail.
So what about people that made mistakes in their early 20s and now ten years later are trying to turn their life around?? so what you are saying is they may as well stay a criminal because nobody should hire them and if you commit a non violent crime you should stay in jail for the rest of your life
@@whyask8155 pays 10 dollars a week to do factory work that would usually pay 400 to 500 dollars a week. they more than pay for their upkeep. . its highley inflaited the amount they claim that it costs to keep a prisoner per week, dont know how the hell they come up with these stupidly high figures.maybe they should stop jailing people for minor things and give them community service like they do in the uk
@shakyinc671 I agree but my point to initial comment was, if they cost on welfare, there is still a cost to society with imprisonment... monetarily AND damages to the community/victim depending on the crime committed. Born and bred Londoner here, don't be fooled by the propaganda. The prison system is the the exact same modern day slavery you have amd young, BM are also the targets.
Well that's 30 years ago because it's 2024 and many jobs don't even want to pay you $15 an hour and that is the lowest amount. Many bus drivers in Detroit Michigan where only making $15.50 an hour until January the 4th 2024 of getting a a mediocre 19.00 🤬🤦🏻♀️👎🏼🥴🤧🤐🤢 I have no problem with anybody working but I don't think that jobs who are making millions of dollars should be exploiting people likewise
I'm a single father raising a girl for 14 years, and I can't get food stamps or anything. If I we're to choose not to work,we would loose everything.Must be nice to be taken care of,but I'm proud that I don't need handouts.
Ppl milk the system if u capable of working just work!!!!!!!!!! But back then jobs wasn't giving you benefits neither, But the cost of living was cheaper also..........So it was give and take and tick for tat back than and still now!!!!!!!!!
Welfare is different from food stamps or Medicaid tho. Welfare is a check each month in cash and the others are a card. Has nothing to do with skin color.
What does racial bias have to do with anything??? I'm not picking up on that especially when there are different ethnicities on welfare presented on this show!
Because she's black she deserves welfare for 10 yrs I don't understand what your getting at back in 70s 80swhole families lived off welfare and would have more kids to keep getting benefits.... If you can't work prove your disabled disability should be the only thing taxes goto
Ricki showed her preference right from the beginning of the show!! Attacking Nickki. From that moment on noticed how the entire audience treated Nickki badly also!!
Nikki has been on welfare for 10 years. Nikki is a liar (who works 6 jobs at one time, really?) Nikki committed welfare fraud (which NO ONE mentioned) by working "under the table" and still getting welfare. That means she paid no taxes on that income and definitely didn't report it to her caseworker. It ain't about race. And that's coming from another black woman. Nikki is an embarrassment.
To me this would not have happened if that young woman named Nikki didn't keep her legs closed! She got herself in this position because, she did not let her brain take charge of her common sense. Ten years on public assistance is 9 years six months too long! It seems to me that this woman is just doing nothing but making excuses! My question is where is her baby father?! Out of all of this talk about welfare I have heard nothing about marriage or financial planning! All of this could have been avoided if she took a minute to stop and think about the consequences of her actions! Lesson #1 do not have a baby before you are ready, and you have the money to support said child. If you are physically able you should be able to work for everything you have! There should be no free rides. You are taking away money from people who really need such as the disabled like myself. Lesson #2 say 10% of everything that you have for your old age, because you will not be able to work forever. You only have from 18 until 65 (67 in some states) to save up enough money for your old age! It's time you learned two very important words in the American lexicons they are budgeting, and sacrifice Lesson #3 30% of your check is to go for your living expenses and another 10% for investments search as: your IRA, 401K, stocks and bonds. You don't have the time to be spending money frivolously! If you can't afford something, then you shouldn't buy it! Life is not about trying to one up the next person! Life is what you make it. There is an old saying from World War Two and that is use it up where it out make it do or would do without! There are a lot of things you can do for instance :1. start buying generic items.2. Stop spending all of your money on entertainment! You're not in high school anymore everything costs from 18 on you need to work work work and save. 3. Start using public transportation it saves money and it's better for the environment. If you can't do that walk to work 4. Grow your own vegetables.5. Take your food to work with you instead of eating out. 6. Clip coupons at the grocery store every little bit helps. 7. Recycle your trash! You may not wanna believe it but it's a great way to earn extra money. 8. if you really need to get something, get it from the pawn shop (right now you're young the new stuff will come down the line but, right now you need to learn how to sacrifice. We all had to start out the same way but remember hard times breed more champions than privilege!
In the 90s we did our own hair or somebody did it in the kitchen. Lee Press-On nails were a thing too, but nails were cheap even at the salon back then.
