+Robert Dobbs agreed, his acting / body language adds so much to the execution of the jokes. Wouldn't be nearly as funny if he wasn't such a great actor as well as a great comedian.
He did an interview where he said as a child he was fascinated by the discrepancy betweent people's vocal & nom-verbal communication whilst they were being dishonest. That's where his amazing physical observations come from.
@@slowhand8301 I've probably listened to a few hundred hours worth of Ricky material over the years (stand up, podcasts, interviews etc). It's fair to say the jokes he "stole" make up about 0000000.00001% of his material. And even those were ideas they came up with together. Additionally he made Karl rich and relatively famous.
I'm rather late but Nietzsche's sister (Elizabeth? her name escapes me.) was a fascist and when Nietzsche died, she edited his papers to be in line with nazi ideologies. I thought that was an interesting thing to note given the joke of reading between the lines.
There is some comedy gold to be exhumed from a short 7 episode season, 30 minutes apiece with Nietzsche being mildly fascinated by Hitler in the first episode only to be outright sickened by him by season's end.
@ James That's a lie. And Nietzsche said various other things for and against Jews. He was not a Jew lover but also not a Jew hater, he was an opportunist. If they disturbed him, he badmouthed them... If they helped him, he badmouthed their opponents. He did not have a fixed opinion about Jews, it always changed according to his prevailing personal experience and what kind of Jews he was talking about (all of them, individuals, from the time of the Old Testament or modern Jews...). If he had had more problems with Jewish authors and publishers, it is not unlikely that he would have taken a similar intellectual direction as Joseph Goebbels, though not perhaps to that extreme.
I guess that not everyone in the audience could laugh about this joke. At least not those people whose ancestors were killed in the nazi concentration camps. Btw: If the applause or laughter of an audience or a mass of people is the only proof needed of saying or doing the right thing, than every dictator on earth was right.
actually the husband of Nietsche's sister, who was an anti-semite, changed a lot in his work after he died and his sister, whom Nietsche hated, got all of his work
His sister herself changed most the manuscripts. She was a supporter of the Third Reich and Nietzsche is easy to manipulate(for the uneducated that is).
@@pashadyne Well, Nietzsche could be so vague and multifaceted at times and often wrote in aphorisms which sound absolute but really can be interpreted any manner of ways.. It's the sort of thing that's very hard to understand properly but very easy to understand badly.
As someone who was born and raised in Germany, I really appreciate these kind of things. We were always told to never forget our history. That we never should joke about this topic. I personally think that as long as we have the right mindset, we should be able to laugh about it. I mean we are not the ones that actually killed them. It is so relieving.
I think a big difference here is that Ricky is making fun of Hitler and this absurd idea that his ethnic-cleansing was only/truly inspired by Nietzsche. He's not making fun of the 11 million innocents and he never would. As someone who wasn't there but is a descendant of grandparents who unfortunately were, I completely agree. Germany should always make sure its people know its dark history in detail, but as long as the mindset is right, it is good and right for us to be able to indulge in the lightness and laughter of dark humor.
Anyone who feels guilt for something someone else did in a time they weren't alive is a fool. And anyone who tries to make others feel guilty for something someone else did in past times is an asshole.
If a joke is made about something horrific, it always needs to acknowledge that the tragedy is absurd. That's what makes a joke about babies in a blender, aristocrats or rape funny. The absurdity, knowing that the immense tragedy and suffering is so extreme it feels unreal. Never making fun of the victims, making fun of the situation, the perpetrators or otherwise the ones who caused the problem.
@@faketrailermaker64 actually you are correct. But why doesn't this regret rule apply for the UK when the Churchill rule much more people in a short amount of time in the famine in India.... Like the UK never even said sorry for whatever horrible things they did. The world should hold them accountable
@@rjk69 Eh..some of it was post war too. But that's not my point. It's the declared alliance that counts. Any country which gets into a war will fight and forge alliances for its own interests. I'm not sure why you're singling out Soviet Russia for it. When America joined the war, it surely wasn't for altruism and the defense of her allies.
@@theelafella1846 Debatable tbf. Imo I would imagine a different Nationalist party taking the lead over the NSDAP. Communist support definitely died out a bit ever since the loss of the Spartacists in the Civil War due to the mostly Nationalist Freikorps. And may I add the Freikorps came closer to taking over than Spartacists. Perhaps von Paupen could establish his own little electoral one-party state?
@@cageybee7221 is there a difference between purposeful genocide and accidental genocide through incompetence or lack of care? I think not other than the level of evil committed. Also Weimar at the time needed a scapegoat to blame if it wasnt jews, slavs, romani or gypsies it would have been someone else if not still those same people under spartacist rule as that was the ethnic, racial, religious tension of the time among the common people. Also the communists in the USSR and China and other such nations didnt care for minorities or non comformative people within their borders such as the genocide and horrible treatment of Uigur muslims in China and Ukrainians under Stalin's regime and intellectuals and those of opposing thoughts like in Cambodia as another example. Communist Germany would not have been any better by any significant measure. Due to the poor management seen in communist regimes I would argue that starvation would have been an even bigger issue and the economy wouldve tanked in Germany leading to another giant recession in Germany and even more deaths. Now what would be better would be if Stresemann did not die before the WSC and the SPD stayed in power but that did not happen. All political extremes are harmful (unless used to see different perspectives and one off solutions to difficult problems) and lead to unnecessary deaths as some of the more utopian idealistic ideologies are only viable if humanity was perfect which we aren't. Fascism and Communism are two sides of the same embarrassing failure of a coin.
Not designed by Hugo Boss just manufactured. Boss was just a small tailor that gotten a army/party contract back then. Karl Diebitsch and Walter Heck two ss designer/ artists designed the ss uniforms.
Honestly there's no other comedian that I know of that'll take it this far. I love the fact he doesn't care what he says and does and the fact that everybody excuses his jokes is hilarious. If it were someone else they'd be pinned on the news and everybody would hate them but nope not Ricky. He's bloody brilliant I swear
When a South American soccer player named Adolfo Valencia was signed up in Europe a decade or so ago, nobody would call him on tv by his first name. The funny part was, this guy could've never been a nazi, he was the blackest african fellow you've ever seen 😅
Jim You can find another mirror if you think that I'm self publicising but it would be great if a lot of people joined in on what right now is just a tiny movement
The Nietzche joke was brilliant because in the book he is talking about, Nietzche does say that not all men are equal and that one can become an ubermensch, but not in a physical or racial way but rather in a moral, philosophical way and he even stated that he was tired of the European antisemitism but the Nazis manipulated and misinterpreted his work disproportionately and now we have the idea that Nietzche sort of laid the bases for Nazism.
Well Captain America is just the States ideal soldier same concept with whatever lab experiments they did whereas Hitler believed in genetic superiority the Ariyan race wanted tall blue eyed blonde Germans he was paunchy and brown hair brown eyes Austrian himself. It was all just propaganda including the superiority complex and Jews were vilified so their wealth could be stolen from them.
One of the great ironies is that one of the funniest, most innocent, most beloved comedians of all time was named Adolph Marx. No joke, two for one, as it were. That was Harpo.
you are disgusting and an ignorant. You don't have to be from Syria to be a refugee dumb ass. All that racist bigotry that spills out of your mouth would be over if you got to meet actual refugees. There are nice people, just like everyone else.
Sharp as a tack. This guy is on another level of comedy, not just visual evry thing he says is brand newc,no old jokes re vamped just new ideas. Excellant comedy.
Actually, in Croatia there is a singer called Dado Topic. Born in 1949. his parents gave him the name Adolf. When he grew up, he abbreviated it to Dado
The funny thing is he mentions "Man and Superman" which was not actually a Nietzsche work, but a play by George Bernard Shaw, using some of the same themes, Nietzsche had pioneered, written in 1903.
I worked with Ricky at MSG theater...he was soooooooo kind. He saw me standing there for hours and offered me some water. Ask Madonna, Gaga, Jackson fam, if they ever did the same.
@@gremtsy6443 ❤️ thanks! I’d like to take this moment to thank my family for believing in me, to my fan… I love you! And to you, Grem for spending your life counting people’s likes. Life well spent 😀
I went from watching him in clips of The Office telling awkward jokes and making everyone feel uncomfortable to making millions laugh on the internet at a major venue. This man is a true comedic genius.
And here we see Ricky doing a visual gag which can now actually get comedians in serious legal trouble. Never forget: comedy used to be free. I mean, you still had to pay to see it live, but you could make whatever jokes you wanted.
@@garethhanby calling someone an idiot, brilliant argument. Notice how they didn't say that dank did get sent to jail, only that it *can* happen. And that's the problem.
it is funny that 7yrs later, Jimmy Carr is getting loads of shit for telling a variant on this joke. it just goes to show how woke the world has become in such a short time. it wont be long before laughing will become a crime.
Ricky making Hitler look stupid in this joke by saying he misunderstood something he read, Jimmy said it was a good thing that Hitler killed a certain group of people. Way different jokes with way different meanings. Just because both jokes include Hitler and reference the holocaust doesn’t make them the same joke…
@@jeanlongsden1696 I know what variant means and it doesn’t apply here chief… Like i said Ricky’s joke was about the ridiculousness of Hitler and Jimmy’s joke was about the positives of the holocaust. Was Jimmy kidding? Yes however these are two different classes of joke and you are either blind or desperate to think otherwise.
