that hipster "new grass" is shit. They have no identity or connection to the music, no background of being mountain-folk or southerners. They just copy it cos it sounds "cool" to them, and like to play dress up with their coveralls and old time looking clothes. They're pathetic. However Ricky is the real deal! We need somebody to take his place.
I'm 53 years old and listen to every kind of music you can think of and I think Ricky up there picking and singing this, might be the most beautiful thing I've ever heard!! BRAVO!!!!!
I'm 59 soon to be 60 and ricky is one of my favorites right up there with Conway Twitty George Jones Alabama Alan Jackson hee haw love this older songs nothing can beat it country today is to country pop not old style Country music doesn't live on any more except these Honor's of the past
Teary-eyed. Sounds beautiful still. Thank you Ricky Skaggs and the late Bill Monroe. Thankful for the Carter family and this beautiful song. Wow is right Ricky Skaggs. Well done from a fan in KY
My nephew sang this at my mother’s funeral who passed away at 97 a month ago. I haven’t been able to cry..the last few months had been rough..but this unleashed the tears. Thank you, I needed to let go. I was feeling guilty that I didn’t fully appreciate this incredible mother or do more with her when she was younger. She was still gardening 6 months before her death and I thought she’d live forever but alas we all need to let our mothers know how much we love and appreciate them before it’s too late.
Ricky is absolutely a mandolin master. Bill Monroe's mandolin was notorious for being hard to play because of the way he liked it set up. You can tell by how conservative he plays on this. Still an absolutely iconic moment!
I remember Ricky as a little boy being introduced by Bill Monroe. He blew them away. I appreciate Garth Brooks’ humility and kindness. Both are good souls.
Growing up in Toombs County and and being in a tune in the Lyons high School marching band I know that all musicians talk to their instrument and have named them. I love how he talks to the instrument the whole time! instrument
Rickey is and has been the latest leader in the Bluegrass world we saw him several times and always wonderful with a great band May he be blessed with many years in health
I sang this song acapello at my grandmother’s funeral. She and I were raised in Pleasant Run and Ditney Ridge Ky about 15 mins from Sandy Hook where Ricky Skaggs and Keith Whitley grew up.
Man! Phenomenal! Always loved Ricky Scaggs. First time I've ever seen Garth look as if he was nervous or a bit intimidated by any other artist. Great moment!
Back in March of 1991 we played this song at my mother's funeral. She loved this song so much and she cried every time she heard it. Everyone at her funeral cried as it played also. Thank you Ricky Skaggs.
Sometimes I just get to flying too high. Hearing music like this brings me back down and helps keep me grounded. Puts me in a good place. Makes me feel good.
So did I down near Somerset, Ky! Grandparents lived on top of this mountain! No TV, just my Mom playing guitar, her brother Banjo and people stopping by with instruments, we had great music ALL THE TIME!
Very cool! That was certainly a fitting song for the occasion, but I do wish he had played Rawhide or another bluegrass mandolin tune, also! Great to see Ricky being honored, and cool to see him and Garth singing together!
Wow, what an achievement for the great Ricky Scaggs, you could see the delighted Ricky and his beautiful wife Sharon both delighted. So very happy for Ricky and his proud family. God be with you all always .ELIZABETH in SCOTLAND ❤❤❤
My mammaw who was the most dedicated Christian woman, loved gospel music. Lately I've had this song stuck in my head. I'm not a Christian but she was. She would sing gospel music all the time. This was one she sang often. I know it because of her and her making me go to church. I guess she's been talking to me and I didn't realize it. I would never personally choose this song but she would. I lost her in 2003. I was 16 years old. I'd give anything to see her again. I will always love gospel music because of her.
I had the sincere pleasure of seeing Ricky and Kentucky Thunder in Fort Smith recently. I gotta tell you, there is nothing else like the sheer quiet and pure music/voice that happens when Ricky begins singing. It gives me goosebumps to listen to it. It speaks to my soul. I know I can't be the only one that feels that way. What a treasure he is, with his band and all the stories he tells with his singing.
Wow! So beautiful, there is something so special about country music. It speaks to the soul. I'm a 7th generation Texan and a proud country music lover.
Many of us have spent literal thousands of hours listening to and learning from that mandolin. Hearing it again means the world to us. It's not hard to tell that it means the same (and more) to Mr. Skaggs. Thank you to everyone involved, and a huge thank you to Garth Brooks for suggesting a second chorus on it.
I agree. I know I don't and it's thanks to masters like Ricky Scaggs that make it look so easy that keeps me happily ignorant! What an amazing musician and singer!!
Thank you Ricky Skagg’s for the wonderful music in Marietta Ohio I loved it.. ♥️♥️♥️ I wish my momma was still here with me she loved you. And I love you as well…♥️♥️♥️.
Ricky can make that mandolin sing! My Mom loved your music ! She went home to be with the Lord ! We honored her with some of her favorite Ricky Skaggs music at the funeral, Your Something Else,Nothing beats a Family! Etc. God bless . In my prayers Ricky !
