Great great video. Saw this at Home Depot on a clearance cart for $129 and didn’t really hesitate to buy it as I’ve been wanting a cordless saw. Already have a Rigid cordless drill (no high capacity batteries) but enough to get me going- probably pick up one soon. Best part of this video? My saw came with no instructions and this video saved me from having to find and read a manual; in less than 15 minutes long, i got all the set up and run information i needed. Can’t thank you enough!

This really is a beautiful saw. Obviously not worth the upgrade if you already have a Gen5X brushless. But the octane saw with octane battery makes it even more beautiful.
I got the the saw and the drill at Home Depot they carry it so if you can't find it online and I've used my saw quite a bit building skirting around my trailer putting a deck in my boat and I think I've charged the battery one time so it's done a lot of work and it goes a long time on a single charge and I'm only using a two amp battery so there you have it I'm going to have to upgrade just because
Great video brother! I picked this saw up as the "free tool" with the battery deal going on now (btw thanks for reviewing that). It's just now hitting the stores around here (west coast) so that was awesome . I just uploaded a video on this saw comparing it to the gen5x brushless. I was really hoping this octane would rip!
@@charlesking678 with the octane battery there is a difference. The octane batteries and tools help with power output under load. The older tools and batteries cant communicate like that. Larger 6/9ah Octane batts on a reg gen5x brushless will more or less only give you longer runtimes. A few select very recent gen5x tools are not branded octane but have the functionality because of the release times of the tools and batts being out of sync. You can tell by the extra contacts where the battery connects.
@@charlesking678 I have the gen5x brushless and just picked up the octane. I was really excited about this saw (thinking it might rival the DeWalt or at least not bog and bind -especially on kerfs- like the gen5x burshless). I did a short video comparing the two, unfortunately, first impressions aren't all that great. It's marginally better.
I bought this saw and I'm quite pleased with the performance and I like the addition of the rafter hook and LED light. I'm not pleased that RIDGID did not provide the saw with an Edge Guide. I've never bought any manufacturer's saw before that wasn't supplied with and edge guide. Does anyone know the part number for the edge guide for the R8654 and where to acquire it from?
Thank you for posting this video. I’ve been wanting to get more involved in home construction, and want to buy a battery Ridgid Circular saw. I’ve been looking at the Circular saw/ jig saw set on Home Depote’s site. But, if I can buy just a circular saw, I’d love to. I have left hemiplegia, so, I’ve just been wondering how safe the circular saw would be. But, now that I see how quickly it stops, I think that should be no problem at all.
I preferred the brushed circular saw over this octane with same 9ah battery I did 2 decks last week I use the octane and struggled to make some cuts and yesterday I used the brushed one same blade too it did better and quieter too!
High Ridge Handyman it does I wasn’t impressed with the octane I wasn’t impressed with the octane impact driver either I prefer the 3 speed one or my stealth force over that model

They Royal me is not a bad tool it's really not for intermediate tool you're not doing too bad I'm sure you haven't had any breakdown on you yet if you have well they're not expensive to replace anyway if the tool Works use it that's all I can say instead of Milwaukee this time I had to buy Ridgid they're a very good tool but they're cheaper than Milwaukee that doesn't make them any less better by what you was going to forward and use the tool to its fullest capacity and do a good job that's all we can say
Definitely!! Still works like a champ. Only issue I had was it has an anti bind feature so if you try rush cutting on an angle it stops. You have to get use to that. Good luck
I’m new with a circular saw so don’t mind the dumb question.. I’m hitting the trigger on my circular saw and it does nothing. Light is on and everything. Is there some kind of safety button I also have to hold to get it to start?
Safety button located top part oh handle. You use your thumb. You have to hold it down to activate the trigger. Be careful and read the owners manual before operating the saw. Good luck
Yes, the 9Ah Octane battery works. Just put it on my 8654, and it runs great. Bevel and depth can be set all the way up, out or both, without hindrance.
I purchased the octane circular saw figuring that I could get by with my existing batteries, 2x 1.5 Ah and 1x 2.0 Ah and that I would just have to cycle the bats to keep on sawing. However, the truth is that the only compatibility those bats have with the octane is that they fit into the slot. Almost the second the saw detects any load on the blade it will cut off power to the saw. I took my first saw back and exchanged it thinking it was a lemon but the second saw is just the same. Ridgid should make it known to all purchasers of the octane circular saw that it is not compatible with all previous bats.... I'm going to say that if you buy this saw you better plan on buying octane batteries to go with it or forget it...
Rigid team has home depot replies about the batterys and they said it works just fine...the run time will be better with the octane batteries that what they say. Thanks for your post because I dont have octane batteries just the reg brushless kit and batteries.
Its because those batteries are likely underpowered for any circular saw type tool. have you tried those small batteries with older versions of the circular saw?
@@awesomedave8484 Like I said, I tried to make the batteries I had on hand work on not just one saw but two. Got the same result both times! If the Rigid team said "it works just fine" they have got be testing a different saw from the two I tried.
You shouldn't be having and issue of under power with the older and smaller Ah batteries. As long as the saw is pulling 18 volts you should get the same performance. You will just experience shorter run time. I've run my saw on 10 year old 2.5 Ah original NiCad batteries and no issues. Your older batteries may have some other issues causing the same problem of both saws you tried.
taumax I tried a few times and it kept turning on and off. I’m still learning how to use it. It doesn’t have a screen to check either. Thanks for taking time to watch 👍

Your so right! With all the cordless tool manufacturers competing for the most power and most run time, why does RIDGID compromise performance and their reputation with such crappy saw blades? If you do use the supplied RIDGID blade, use mineral spirits to remove their printing from the face of the blade. When you use the new blade the printing inks used turn into a rubberized gooh that gums up the blade and makes it even 50% worse.
